Sounds great! That's hilarious about the magalodon tooth. Definitely a brat!

I had a can in January last year and enjoyed it, though I thought the finish was a bit rough. Things are smoothing out nicely now, but another year might have been helpful.

Lots of caramel and brown sugar up front, along with hints of raisin. The finish adds oak and pine resin, both more muted than my last can but still prominent, and a nice licorice note. The whiskey is not shy, wonderfully flavorful without being hot. Really enjoying this.

Central Waters Barleywine aged for three years in bourbon barrels.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark brown with almost no head. The nose is very boozy. It's getting really close to simply smelling a bottle of bourbon. Leans towards Blanton's for me. Also getting some stone fruit, toffee, and some nice malts.

The taste is fantastic. Tons of toffee, bourbon, vanilla, toast with butter, marmalade, slight brown sugar, plums, and very slight citrus peel. Great barleywine! Definitely a sipper!

Archaeometry from Bottle Logic. English barleywine aged for 18 months in brandy barrels with coconut. Comes in at 13.6% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp into a brandy snifter. Pours dark brown with a very thin layer of light brown head. The nose is incredible. Screaming toffee, brandy, coconut, brown sugar, oak, plums, figs, and raisins. Wow. Intense.

The taste freaking incredible. Huge notes of brandy explode in the mouth on the first sip. Brandy barrels and barleywine go so nicely together. Rich toffee, brown sugar, cinnamon, graham crackers, coconut, vanilla, maple, grapes, and figs. A hint of oak comes through as well.

The mouthfeel is medium to thick bodied, with a nice brown sugar and toffee aftertaste. Lovely barleywine. Bottle Logic kicks some ass when it comes to BA barleywines, and I love when they incorporate brandy barrels.

Enjoying an Armaganac BA EBW from Olde Hickory.

Nose is dark fruit forward, very nice. Taste is figs forward, some caramel, and a touch of chocolate in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth. Overall this is a port bomb as the barrel really shines thru. Like O.H. Parallassein, Marcheur probably would have been best served aging this into bourbon barrels to give this brew additional nuances. Rated 4.2.
Fun to try and thankful this is a 12 oz serving given the 15% abv!

Marcheur Irlandais from Olde Hickory, Armagnac barrel aged. Thanks Tom! I'm enjoying this 15% ABV offering while preparing dinner. I have made better choices...

I love what brandy-ish barrels can bring to a barleywine, particularly when blended with something in the brown liquor family. I do enjoy them straight up as well though!

In the nose especially this is beautiful. The musty, boozy grapes dominate but hints of other fruits and a little toffee peek through as well. On the tongue this is an all-out Armagnac attack as well. Up front this is pretty sweet, with raisins and caramel leading the way. The barrels push all that aside with a big, wonderfully bruising vinous note. The grapes are huge here, almost having a tart twang at times. Overall this is quite treat and a really fun ride. Thanks again @CarolinaCardinals , I enjoyed your review. with the benefit of hindsight, I get where you're coming from with chocolate at the finish. Cheers!

Anyone else think of Artie Bucco when they think Armagnac?

@DIM glad you enjoyed Marcheur! It is a touch sweet but to be expected. I definitely need to make a trip to the Olde Hickory Station for a meal and some high gravity samples in the near future. I will be sure to let Da Boss drive the 1.5 hours back.

Onto round two, probably not a great life decision but a Bigfoot seemed to be the Yang to the Ying of the Marcheur i enjoyed earlier. Bigfoot delivers the expected!
    Cheers!

I'm joining @CarolinaCardinals and @DIM with this one! Thanks for sending, Tom!

Marcheur Irlandais from Olde Hickory Brewing in North Carolina. A barleywine aged in Armagnac barrels. Comes in at 15% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky brown with little head. Definitely a reddish hint to the color. The nose is full of Armagnac. I love Armagnac, so I'm loving this. Also getting sweet candy, sight rhubarb with sugar, a semi-dank grape peel note, wet leather, and a hint of citrus.

The taste is super sweet, and definitely Armagnac heavy. The barrels have really taken over this beer! Almost a wine-beer hybrid at this point (and ABV). Some lemon, slight cough syrup (not unpleasant at all), oak, leather, sweet toffee, marmalade, and that bitter rhubarb is back. Really nice and complex. A very interesting barleywine!

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and dry. The aftertaste is Armagnac.

Awesome! I think it will take a bit more thought and careful planning to avoid overlapping with BIF #18 (can't wait to participate in that one!). Maybe even next January or February.

Fox Farm had a stout aged in armagnac barrels and it was absolutely fantastic, so I’m sure that barleywine is great. Until now, I had never seen another beer aged in that type of barrel.
