Maybe it was Maine. I know it was up that way.

Are there recycling centers in NH? I remember having to go to a location to drop it all off. Maybe we did not get any cash there. It very well could have been Maine I’m thinking of.

    Enjoy

I looked up some information on recycling cans with nitro widgets. The recommended action is to cut open the can and remove the widget. I doubt many people are doing this. At one time I saw a brewery that was selling beer in cans where you could peel the whole top of the can off and that seems like it could be a pretty cool idea. I also saw a tool called The Draft Top that lets you press the seam of a can outward to pop the top off, but after watching it in action I don't know that I'd want to use it before drinking a beer. It might be useful for popping tops off to remove a widget though.

Yes, I'm sure you remember correctly. There are municipal trash/recycling centers. In smaller towns without curbside pickup residents haul their own refuse to those facilities.

Over the past week or so, I've started peeling can labels, and tried a few as decor on the lid of my laptop. I'm not particularly into these beers, so over time, I'll replace them with labels from some of my favorites. Really bummed that the Surly BA Darkness had a non-adhesive and poor-print-quality label that isn't really suitable as a sticker. Not sure yet how these will come off after the laptop bakes them a bit, but probably a lot better than brewery stickers.

Word of warning, don't stick labels on your painted laptop like some idiot suggested above. When I previously put beer stickers on my old laptop, that laptop was black, apparently unpainted plastic so they came off. I just tried peeling those labels off my new laptop above, intending to replace them with stickers from beers I like more. Bad move, it took the silver paint off, revealing black plastic. So I'll need to keep stickers on there permanently. I'll also make sure not to put (work-related) stickers on my silver work laptop like others do.

I didn't, but be sure not to stick them to other painted or varnished surfaces, such as your fridge or cabinets. They use real good adhesive so they don't fall off the cans.

I tried to peel off a label, it broke, found out it's paper even though it was on a can :grimacing:

This is pretty neat. Might start doing it, but maybe in a binder so I can re-organize them down the line.

I got a pin maker few months ago and instead of making punk rock band pins since I don't have a computer or printer right now I make brewery pins out of some labels if I spot a good 1 or 1.5 inch logo

Some labels are damn near impossible but a beer we love, Cape May Longliner stickers come off so so easy. Not as easy as taking off painters tape but also not much harder. I wonder if they did it on purpose or not.

    Exactly.

Brewers who use plastic labels are polluting the environment and any of them touting any sustainability or environmental initiatives are full of crap.
I don’t peel labels off of cans or bottles so maybe the brewers should figure out a better solution if the labels need to be removed because it’s their products and consumers aren’t going to change their disposal habits. If anything now I feel guilty and will avoid beers with paper labels since I’m not removing them.

That being said, I got a complimentary tasting book from a Goose Island event many years ago. On one page it had a section for tasting and the other page was perfect for putting a label you could peel off next to it. It a lot more fun to read the old tasting notes when you can see the old labels that went with them.

Since the start of the thread iv been logging labels in a sketch book (great idea btw who ever that was). Way easier than saving cans imo. I also like seeing the labels all flat.

Also started covering my beer fridge with labels. I'm digging the way that's turning out.

Peeling a piece of thin plastic is not going to save the planet, we're way beyond that....

What if I also turn the lights off every time I leave a room? That should do it, no?

I started cutting the tops open on the Guinness nitro cans to toss the plastic ball out. I doubt that these cans get recycled with the ball. Any idea if a cut open can gets recycled?

    Enjoy
