@Electros I think CANBIF would benefit from some social media exposure. If you have some sort of advertisement, I could post it to my Instagram page. I'm approaching 5K followers with most of them being Canadian beer geeks like us. There are also lots of active Canadian Facebook groups that would help spread the word.

I post on a number of FB forums and past participants have also post on beer groups they're on. Post away. Advertising is always a good thing to get the word out.

Sunday is fast approaching and with it comes a closing of registration for this round.

Please pass this along to any of your beer trading friends.

Do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions and concerns.

Additionally I want to recognize that we have quite a few new members to the trade participating I this round. By far this is the largest sign up amongst newcomers. Please make them feel welcome.

To everyone who is new please feel free to post any and all questions to the thread. Their is some seasoned CANBIF members here that could answer any co CERN or lend advice.

Sign up for a CP account for additional savings on shipping!

Start getting excited and please start posting.

Hints and hauls will start on Monday but still post early on likes and dislikes by all means.

    Cheers!

Hey everyone, and thanks, Electros, for doing it over and over again

I will be away for a couple of weeks, so I would rather post my likes in advance.

    LIKES:
I am a big fan of dark beers; stronger is better. If it's barrel-aged, it would make my day. I am good with any adjuncts.
Big malty boys: Barley wine, Wheat wine, Rye wines. Scotch Ales, etc
Fresh hops: Pale Ales, IPA, DIPA, TIPA, QIPA...
Experimental things. If you have a strange beer, I wouldn't mind trying it. For example, one of my best beers this year was a Caesar-flavoured sour (P.S. All my friends hated it)
I don't mind Belgian and funky stuff, as well as sours. They are just not at the top of my list.

    DISLIKES:
Crispy boys: not in light beers like lagers, pilsners, etc.
Not much in the classics like red ales, milds, etc.

    My Untappd: Nesh05

First timer here! Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for shipping materials! In Edmonton, AB if that helps.

Any shipping advice in general is also appreciated!

So I don't really use BA, or any beer-media really, but I'm a BJCP and would love to take part this year. How important is it to be on BA throughout the CANBIF? Other than posting the list of beers is it typical to engage heavily on here?

Also what type of shipping costs do people typically encounter?

I can tell you that I also don't use BA too much other than for CANBIF (sorry, BA). You can occasionally check this topic but it's more for fun and not an obligation.

The cost varies. Depends on where you send it. I think mine is about $40-50 on average. But I am also lazy, so use the easiest way to ship with CP and without a business account or checking other carriers. Not sure about others.

You can try to play with a CP calculator to get some raw estimates of how much it could be https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/tools/find-a-rate.page

Likes: I am super basic, and I LOVE juicy IPAs, NEIPAs, West Coast IPAs, any kind of IPA really, especially if it is brewed differently (like champagne IPA or brett IPA), fruity beers, saisons, barrel aged sours, wild ales, anything with funk, absolutely obsessed with anything with phantasm right now.

Dislikes: lagers, pilsners, red/brown ales, kettle sours, some porters and stouts, wheat beers especially hefeweizen

Even with my dislikes above, if you have a favorite beer in any of those styles I would be into trying it. I just don't want to end up with a box of sours (and a week of heartburn!)

I am so excited to try your beer choices, especially your local brews that I have not even heard of.

I am on totally not active on any beer social media, don’t think I’ve used untapped since my trip to the east coast- I am @lena.dee

    Hi All!

I'm late this round, but I'm in-- was on the fence, as it has been a very busy spring so far. I'm big into homebrewing, winemaking, etc., so I've been in a mad scramble trying to wrap up all my basement fermentation projects: this may be my last CanBIF as an east coaster, as I'm moving out west in the fall (to Calgary, from Halifax).

Seems like I may be the only east-coaster this round??

As for accounts, I'm not a ticker, so no beer profiles to link. I used to use Untappd, but it has been many years since I last logged out. I just drink what I like to drink; I don't want another reason to be on my phone, I'm bad enough as it is

Happy CanBIFing! Heading to the basement to bottle some skin contact wine, now...

    Hi mgclark,

I'm not much of a BA user, either-- I only use it for CanBIF. Also a BJCP (judge)! As far as "being on BA throughout", part of the process is outlined in the "rules" post. To be a good player, you should give maybe a couple or few hints to your recipient, to be engaged and help people try to figure out who it is that's sending to them. I'd recommend checking a couple previous rounds to see how it typically goes-- check the Canada forum and look for a different CanBIF thread for references. You should also post a photo of what you receive at the end, as that's often the most exciting part. You could go "radio silent" after signing up and receiving your recipient's address (some do), but that's frowned upon.

As for shipping, I find that it's usually in the range of $30-$45, depending on where you live, and where you're shipping to. As I think it was recommended somewhere, you can save a little on the rate if you set up a "small business account" on Canada Posts's site. You don't really need a legitimately-registered business for it... it's moreso to streamline shipping process for potentially-frequent-users, and gives you a bit of a "wholesale" rate. The other perk of having a small business account is that you are allowed a free shipment every Tuesday in October, up to 5kg. So if you participate in the fall round, you can have your box subsidized (a properly-stocked CanBIF box will exceed 5kg), or if you break it up into a couple shipments, you can have free shipping!

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

I love big bold unfiltered IPAs of all shapes and sizes. Otherwise basically anything. Stouts, porters, barley-wheat-rye... Belgians, etc.

If you think its great and cool likely I will too.

The only thing I am NOT big on is sours or fruited beers.

Beers I've had here and untappd are up to date.

    Thanks!

I have a few dietary restrictions so I'll start with the dislikes and can't haves: No Peach, No Pineapple, No Lactose are my big three. Preference away from Gose, Hefeweizen, Witbier, British Brown Ale, Dark Mild, Fruited Sours, or Gruit.

Likes: Pretty much anything else with a preference toward unique or interesting beers, barrels, wild/sour cultures, adjuncts/additives, or just a straight up delicious beer with none of the other stuff. Pilsners/crispies, IPAs/hazies, Stouts/malt bombs, classic styles, new stuff, hybrid beers all good. I'm excited to try some new to me beers that are unavailable in Alberta!
