The green can one I could finish but it was a salt bomb so I drank it slowly. The Pineapple went down the drain and I did not bother with the Mango because I imagine that would end up down the drain also.

The next one I get is going in the freezer to get slushy and I'm gonna see if it helps. I don't like 'em when they start to get warm.

That's a good idea. They may make a good base for a frozen cocktail too.

I’d say I’ll have to give it another go but it doesn’t sound like it’s better regardless of the yeast according to this thread so far.

The bottle was the first one, so I had to try it on draft to see if maybe it was just a bad bottle. Also, I love Berliner Weisse as a style and I love The Bruery. Wanted to like it, but nope.

Technically only two were drain pours. Got a six of these at a convenience store on our RV trek from Chicago to Seattle a few years back. My wife and I opened one each and managed to get a third of the way through it. The rest of those two bottles went into the RV waste holding tank. The next morning the other unopened four went to the nearest garbage can and were neatly sat on top of the overfull pile of trash before we drove away.

This thread has got me thinking about beers I’ve drained poured and why, here’s what I remember from recent years

-over carbonated beer. That’s probably happened like four times in the past couple of years.

-beer that was overly sweet for the style. Can’t remember what beer/brewery, but I bought a porter a while back that tasted like candy. Adios.

-one that was completely my fault because I bought a porter that I thought was a regular porter and I completely missed that it said “vanilla” in smaller letters above the word porter. I love vanilla, but can’t stand the flavor in beer. I tried getting some friends and family to drink it at some parties and gatherings, but they weren’t interested either. Down the drain they went.

I've been fortunate not to have ever experienced an infected beer, a few brews were old and some I just didn't like but drain pours, only one. Not Your Father's Root Beer. In my opinion this is not root beer or beer. I tried to finish a 12-oz bottle; I drank enough to write an unfavorable review, the rest I poured on the ground. I gave away the remaining five bottles.

I don't like to waste beer so I'm careful of what I buy, hopefully my mistakes are in the past.
This did not sway me from trying new styles however I'm still leery towards Herb and Spice beers. Cheers.

I know that I’ve drain poured quite a few over the years, but the only beer that stands out firmly in my mind is Ballast Point Indra Kunindra. I honestly tried, but that was just… No.

It's also worth defining what one means by drain pour. Are we talking, one or two sips, and the entire thing goes down the drain? Or half a beer? Three quarters?

There are plenty of beers I don't finish, out of palate fatigue (looking at you, 16 ounce pastry stouts ... ) or other reasons. I don't consider these drain pours, even though, technically, I'm pouring some of the beer down the drain.

I think to qualify as a drain pour, it's got to be something not that you simply don't finish, but that you cannot be bothered to drink past the first few sips. With that distinction in mind, I've probably drain poured fewer than a dozen beers, ever, and they were either infected or truly, truly miserable.

A good point and one I didn't think about and using your definition of only taking a few sips and then dumping I drain poured only a few beers with the most recent one being Modelo Chelada Pina Picante. But I do "sandbag" a lot more than I used to and then 3/4 of it goes down the drain because a lot of beers completely fall apart for me when too warm (IPAs are really awful to me when too warm).

Let's Go Vic (8.2% NEIPA) from Turning Point for me at the start of January has been my only drain pour in 2023. I usually enjoy their offerings with Vic Secret as support but Vic as the single hop was downright disgusting. Somehow more oniony and astringent than any Galaxy-hopped IPA I'd ever had. Directly to the drain after 5 sips.

I guess I should have taken pictures, but my recollection from the Extreme Beer Box, I dumped from the first 5 cans I tried, all added junk stouts.

This is how I feel about Mosaic in most beers. I had a Troegs Field Study yesterday and while cold it's barely there but when that beer warms it started to become more onion/garlicky and less pleasant to me.

I don't have drain pours to often luckily. I tend to do well at buying beers that I enjoy.

If I drain pour it's because I'm not enjoying the beer. I'm not going to force myself to drink something I don't like. To many good choices these days to be settling on something you don't enjoy.

Of course I drain pour anything that's infected or to old/oxidized.

Off topic but Celestial has been putting out some pretty impressive bangers so far this year.

When I first got into craft, I was adamant that I would never do a drain-pour, but I soon discovered there are some good reasons. I've had very few beers that were so horrible that they triggered an immediate drain-pour, maybe 2-3 vinegary sours. When we had kids at home, sometimes I'd be called upon to "rescue" a kid from a sleepover or car trouble, and would drain pour if I wasn't digging it anyway. I drink mostly new-to-me singles, but am real choosy about what I buy, so I have confidence I'll finish it.

My last drain pours were actually from a 12-pack of Sam Adams. The "Gameday Pack." I never thought I'd say/type that. Noticeable diacetyl in Boston Lager and Golden Lager. Alpine tasted like someone sprinkled vinegar into it. I let them know and supposedly a refund check is inbound...but it has been 8 weeks and I haven't seen anything.

I can't even tell you when my last drain pour was prior to those. Occasionally I'll lose track of a big stout and it will turn into rusty port, but that's pretty rare. For the most part, I drink most of my beers quickly and I only buy bottles/cans of something I'm pretty sure about.

Just to clarify on my end, if I drain pour a brewskie it's because there's something severely wrong with it ie: infected, spoiled. 1 sip to 3 sips and I know. For instance a WCIPA should not taste of vinegar and randy apples and/or continuously foam or frizzle-fry your tongue. Drain pour. That said, if I just don't really fancy the taste of a new beer I'm trying, I will slowly learn to enjoy it knowing that it's still good & fresh and not buy it again. If it's a beer I already know & love that tastes F'd up I'll dump it or send it back to the bar. No qualms about it. Again, I've DPd 3 beers in 2 years. I think that's a pretty good average considering my numbers.
