@dcgunman visually, it appears there was a loss of carbonation as well as a change in color. I’m not surprised by the carb issue, but what explains the color change? (Cue science!)

I posted the photos and did a comparison review here back in late 2020, not 2021 mentioned. It was suppose to be on its 10 year anniversary when it was bottled. As mentioned then it was a buddies couple of bottles he brought over for Super Bowl 2013/14. The taste on my first slow pour was good. 2nd pour was vintage sour vinegar. Drain poured the last 4oz. Change in color? My guess is light source? Found out a couple of months ago he still a couple more bottles.

Oxidation will usually do that to a beer

Oxidation for sure. I can usually tell when one of our beers is oxidized by looking at photos on untapped. Especially if there are any crystal malts present.

Enter, if you will, into the cave of forgotten beers, lost to the sands of time, but still sitting on shelves at my local liquor store:

On the flip side, sometimes it's good to let someone else do the aging for you:

Though sitting on a shelf at room temp for 8 years isn't ideal, the FW beers have held up pretty well, probably thanks to those boxes that shut out the light.

Are we really at a place where the essential "tasting notes" of a beer are comprised of; "tropical, citrus, bitter, and crisp"?

I wouldn't have sprung for it but with the "tropical-ness" and the near full strength "crisp" how could I pass it up?!

I mean if "hoppy" and "Belgiany" are common descriptors thrown around all over the place like they actually mean anything, then I guess the people in charge of Deschutes' descriptors know their target audience.

    Oh Hell No!
I pick up a 4pk of this double down StevO A Broken Skull last week at ESBC during their anniversary shindig. I did not know this was canned in March. Almost 2 months out. I didn’t expect this from the source. I shouldn’t have to ask when was it canned at the source?l. When I go to the source for to go cans I expect fresh cans. Or darn near fresh. My 3 locals always have fresh cans. Their Spirit 76 cans weren’t far off. Shame on you ESBC. :rage:

"Research at Sierra Nevada Brewing has determined the levels of the compounds that produce those floral, spicy, etc. aromas that have made highly hopped beers so popular drop dramatically the first three days after bottling."
Back in 2014, I had my first Sip of Sunshine on tap at The Reservoir in Waterbury VT. It was mind-alteringly excellent. I have since had SoS in its canned incarnation and, although it was good, it just wasn't special. Last week I again had SoS on tap - just tapped that evening, in fact - and it was incredibly good. So that lends credence to the SN 3-day rule, at least for DIPAs.

Sooooo 2 months later one of the Kern Winter Ales was in the $1 section (along with 2021 Class V). Anyway, it was still pretty good!

This is a sad pic about a beer glass. I broke my favorite Simon Pearce tulip glass a few months after getting it, and these aren't cheap, plus they're discontinued. We had just redone our kitchen with new countertops that overhang the recessed sink. I was washing my glass when I dinged the stone countertop at the edge of the sink, breaking the thick stem off. Luckily I had a spare. Now when I wash glasses I hold the base and am a lot more careful, and I bought another spare.

We need a name for stores that predominately sell really old beer. Dusty bottles, long expired stock, stacks of pumpkin ale in March, etc. Do we have a term for this already? If not, I suggest “beer library.” One reads a lot in these establishments, but buys nothing.
