I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Firestone Walker Invitational. Flying in to SFO late on June 1, then will make our way down to Paso Robles early on June 2 for the tomfoolery that follows on the 3rd. Really looking forward to it.

Any suggestions on things that my wife and I should consider to do on Jun 2, either on the way down or at Paso Robles? Can be beer related or otherwise. I'm thinking drinking will be relatively light to prep for the 3rd.

Thanks for your help. It's a quick trip, but this festival has been on my bucket list for awhile.

Franklin Hot Springs, just southeast of downtown Paso. Super weird hillbilly anesthetic. The water is amazing. It's like $7 for a day pass, you can bring in food and drink.

A few things we like to do:
    • Feeding the ostritches/emus at the farm in Buellton
    • Walking around Solvang
    • Visiting Cambria and especially Harmony
    • Hearst Castle and the Elephant seals are great

Great suggestions. Keep them coming. Probably focused on areas between SF and Paso Robles or near Paso Robles.

Worthwhile beer stops on the way are Sante, Alvarado in Monterey, and Aptos BBQ near Sante. Wild Fields Brewing is just south of Paso, they have a cool low-key vibe and make solid beers.

    See ya there.

I love the Solvang/Buellton area, but that’s farther south than they’re going to be if coming down from SFO.

Silva Brewing is worth checking out in Paso, KiloKilo is also there but i haven’t been yet. The main square in “downtown” Paso is neat to cruise around, or you could easily spend a full day drinking and eating your way through Tin City.

Have seen a lot of recommendations for Paso/Central Coast. Never once seen this. That place is a fucking trip. Pretty sure you can buy meth there. I prefer Sycamore down in Avila Beach, but no meth there...

If you are going to Paso I would just head straight to Paso and enjoy it. Tin City is great and best bang for your buck. Wineries, Brewery, Food all in one place. Ancient Owl, Bristol Cider, Wild Fields in Atascadero are great. Wineries on West 46 are great. A trip to the coast is Great.

Avila Beach is nice if you want to chill.

Place is weird as fuck and you can almost certainly buy meth and other assorted sundry there. But, the water is some of the nicest mineral water I've ever soaked in, it's so cheap it might as well be free, and I've never had any issues with weirdos during the day there.

If you need a swanky experience for your hotsprings enjoyment then a trek to Avila is required. If you're just in it for that good good water then Franklin is pretty dope

Yeah I've never heard of this in all my times visiting Paso, and we've stayed in AirBnB's pretty close to there a couple times. Hmm

In fairness to Paso you are closer to Creston than Paso over on that side...

+1 for tin city. that's basically a whole day's worth of wine/beer/food in one place. also +1 for silva brewing

for wineries, daou is a must visit simply for the view alone. kiamie is my other usual go-to. complete opposite from daou as in you go from more "upscale" to feeling like you're wine tasting in someone's backyard, but that's one of the reasons i'm a fan. guys who run the place are super cool as well

fish gaucho and buona tavola are my two favorite places to eat in paso. if you want cool bars, alchemist's garden and eleven twenty-two are my picks. definitely make a reservation for the latter since it's a "speakeasy" and the line to get in can get quite long on the weekends

Thanks for all of the options. More than I can possibly do on a quick trip, but great to have all these options.

Wild Fields, Colony Mash and Ancient Owl in Atascdero, also Spent Grain is a small nanobrewery in town....downtown Paso has a cool burger spot called Mutiny Burger and they typically have beer from There Does Not Exist in SLO....or if you head to Franklin Springs, Longbranch Saloon in Creston has the best burgers around

We have time for one stop and are debating between TDNE and Wild Fields. Leaning Wild Fields which has been described to me as the Pizza Port of the Central Coast, but sounds like TDNE may have more unique beers?

WF is more kids and families with solid beers and good food, like it better than any PP I have been to. TDNE is pretty modern and semi sterile and more college students.
