Came back to BA and glad I did

    Hey everyone, I'm Jay, from Illinois. Married with 3 children and 1 grandchild. (my kids aren't doing their part to keep me in grandkids) I retired in 2022 after 41 years at the same company. I was a member of BA some years back but deleted my account (bad mistake). I rejoined again in 2021 and had to start all over with a different handle, couldn't use the old one, it was blocked by my deleting it. I had my first craft beer, Millstream Schild Brau Amber Lager, in 1985 in Amana, Iowa. But it wasn't really until 1992 when a brewpub opened up across the river from me, Front Street Brewpub, that I really got into it. Then craft beers started making their way onto store shelves around me and I became a convert. SNPA and Anchor Liberty Ale were two of my early favorites. I'm partial to Lagers now, but am always sampling different styles. Mainly IPA's, Pale Ales, & Wheat Ales, with a few Stouts, Porters, and Saisons sprinkled in. I really enjoy the comraderie that is so prevalent on BA. Plus it's a great place to go to check on new beers before I purchase them to see ratings and reviews. WBAYDN is my favorite forum.     Welcome back! I enjoy your posts in WBAYDN as well. You jumped on the craft trend and BA way before I considered. I quit working several months prior, and haven't missed it, but wouldn't mind volunteering or doing something a day or two a week close by.

    I didn't even know about the main folder that hosts WBAYDN until after 4 years here, now that is mostly where I post since starting when the government shut down most of society three years ago.

    What are your favorites around the IPA/PA/Wheat beers you gravitate toward?

    Any breweries you like in the state (not sure where abouts you are) or adjacent you love but don't see posted here much?

    Hey, @ChicagoJ, thanks for the kind words. I enjoy your posts as well. I'd have to say my favorite brewery right now is Triptych out of Savoy, IL. Others right up there are, Pipeworks, Half Acre, Revolution, & New Glarus. How about you, what breweries do you prefer? Locally, my favorites are Radicle Effect Brewerks & Wake Brewing, both are located in Rock Island, IL. I'm in the Quad Cities. I enjoy Pilsner beer the most, but favorite Pale Ale, Daisy Cutter. Wheat, Gumballhead and Allagash White. IPA, Celebration.

    We don't get much Triptych here, but I hope that changes down the road as many people outside of our area say that or Scratch are their two favorites.

    I'd say Revolution, Sputeful, Tighthead and Pipeworks are consistent go-to's, Roaring Table and Goldfinger are rising stars in the traditional styles and Dovetail is good as well.

    I'm not a big wheat fan, but White is the one I turn to the most (used to be Oberon). I hope 3 Floyds reopens a taproom as rumored so I can head down there and stock up after enjoying a few pints. I haven't been there since they shut down three years ago.

    I need to check out Radicle Effect and Wake the next time I get out to the QC.

    I like your new username. I'd keep it too.

    It's nice go meet you, and thanks for the nice intro. The way that you got into craft beer is exactly how it happened to me... a local brewery opened and I had to go check it out to see what craft beer was all about. (It has since closed.) That was in 1996 and I'm enjoying craft beer more now than back then. I'd like to think it's not in the twilight of my experience, though.

    Nothing like replying to a question 4 months later. Sorry. My old handle was muddyh2oblues and I joined BA in March of 2010 and deleted my account some time in 2015. So I had around a 6 year hiatus, until rejoining in 2021.
