Will they ever make Peruvian morning again?

Not a fan of the vanilla rye stout. They made a vanilla BA stout a few years ago that I thought was much better.

I'd like to see the Rye BA Stout come back. Loved that one.

My wife and I agreed to give up beer for Lent. I’m really excited to try them… but didn’t taste them yet. I’ll share my thoughts after Easter. From days of old I always really enjoyed the reg BA BW and BA Scotch. I saw some pictures and the dark color those longer aged BWs are picking up tell me I’m going to love them!

If I remember correctly, Peruvian Morning was in their brewers reserve sampler packs last year.

Pretty sure I got a Binny’s email last week saying it was released (or will be releasing soon).

Edit: never mind, that was Cassian Sunset. Apologies.

Did that have a green label? I liked that one as well.
Cassian has been hit or miss for me. Maybe it does better with some time on it?

That's the one. IIRC, the first edition was in 22oz and brewery only. There was a later release that was also 22 oz and saw distro and may have been 2 year aged. Then they did 4 packs the next release.

This one and Rye Barrel Chocolate Porter are both due for a comeback IMO.

I guess CW was saving some 25th anniversary fun for the rest of the year. A brewery only release at both locations on April 1.

Beer #1 – An Imperial Stout aged 54 months in Weller Bourbon barrels. This beer is one of our standard base recipes, used for our Anniversary and Black Gold, that has been resting in our warehouse just waiting for year 25!

Beer#2 – Imperial Stout aged 54 months in French Orange Curaçao liqueur barrels, once used to finish Parker’s Heritage Bourbon. That’s right – this stout has a strong oak character with very subtle hints of orange liqueur from the barrels’ first use.

I didn't show up to the Milwaukee taproom until the day after the release and they were out of both on tap but still had bottles of the Parker's Heritage one and I cracked it a couple nights ago. Although I love PH that whiskey was easily my least favorite I've had from them. Similarly, the orange in the beer was interesting but not my favorite. The orange is subtle but definitely very present. You do get some really nice whiskey notes from the high quality bourbon that went into those orange barrels though and the long time the beer spent in those barrels. Still a nice base stout, thicker than their older stuff.

In short, interesting and enjoyable but I prefer an anniversary stout in a "normal" barrel over it. Glad I bought a bottle but not sad I didn't buy a second.

They were out of the Weller bottles but I should get a chance to try that tomorrow when a friend shares one.

The Weller version was more enjoyable and more "straight forward" than the PH for obvious reasons. Definitely could taste the Weller and the longer aging than you get on the regular anniversary beers. I find Weller barrel aged beers a bit polarizing myself; I enjoy it in some beers far more than others (I really wish DBVSOD was aged in something else). For me, although I really enjoyed it I probably still would've liked it better if it was in something other than Weller.

Thanks for the review. I'm in the process of trading for this set.

Did you like BCBS Anniversary? I loved that beer and IIRC, was in Weller 12 barrels.

I was a bit underwhelmed by both, and that’s unusual for me because most times Anniversary is one of my favorites.

That said the original anniversary was much better than the variant. But I’m also not the biggest fan of orange in beer.

The Anniversary Weller BCBS was easily one of my favorite BCBS bottles I've ever had and is the biggest reason I'm never sure what I'm getting into with Weller aged beer. Most of the time I am not a huge Weller fan but that beer was definitely an exception. I've also been a big fan of plenty of beers aged in Van Winkle and that should be very similar to Weller so I have no idea what's up with my palette.

A regular old fasioned tastes better. No need to to try and approximate one with beer.
