CANBIF - Spring, 2023!

I also wanted to add that I have a small collection of Willi Becher glasses. Sender, if you want to swap out a beer or two to add a nice Willi, I wouldn’t complain at all. Most of mine are from breweries local to me. These are my outside-of-Ontario Willis:

 

Target:

Hint 1: I’ve had many a beer from your province which is quite some distance from mine, but I have never had the pleasure of visiting. You’d have to scroll through a few pages of my ratings here to find the last beer I’ve had from your province.

Hint 2. Whether here or elsewhere, you look to have rated/reviewed more beers than have I.

 

For my target:

Hint #1: you haven’t posted anything regarding your likes/dislikes this round. Luckily you have posted lots in previous rounds.

Hint #2: you recently visited the area where I lived for >20 years

 

Hint 3.

I’ve cleared my schedule to comb through my target’s extensive ratings/reviews list. I’m planning to fill a box with all new ticks. Last week I ordered beer from a brewery north of Toronto that gets a lot of love. My target has only had a handful of beers from here. He will be getting more. This week I ordered from a brewery about halfway between Toronto and Montreal. My target has never had a beer from this brewery. That will change.

Now, back to the combing….

 

Longtime lurker, first time taking part. For my sender (if you haven't already got the box ready), I'm open to most styles, but favourites are:

• Stouts/barleywine (definitely prefer barrel aged, but also enjoy a solid stout. Also have no allergies, so nothing's off limits in terms of adjuncts)
• Farmhouse/saison/wild ales (I love brett, and even if they're a soured wild, that's fine too)
• IPAs (usually prefer NE or WC)
• Lambic/mixed fermentation
• Most any Belgian styles (quads and tripels are always appreciated, but enjoy a solid BGS too)

No real dislikes, however as I'm aging, it seems like I'm financing Tums when I have a heavy rotation of sours. Same with smoked beers, the odd one here and there is nice, but can't stomach too many.

I like pretty much anything well made. If you like it, I probably will too.
My target looks like they are also down for anything which is good. Might have to introduce them to a little Temporal.

Hint:
My target's preferences have been taken into careful consideration, but they're still getting what I consider the best of 'Berta! Mostly fresh examples, but one or two from my personal cellar, and one that has been out of production for a few years. I hope you enjoy the variety, including a few wild cards.

 

Hint 1: my target is to the west.

Hint 2: my target lives in a neighborhood with a name oddly similar to the town which I currently live.

Hint 3: my target lives about a 45 minute drive from the house that i lived in.

I don't think I have seen a post from you yet, but I could be wrong.


Likes, hopes and desires:

I love barleywine, big stouts, barrel aged big beers, doppelbocks, anything temporal (a guy can dream right?), Adambier, quads, etc.

I love good lagerbier. I am a huge fan of godspeed, slowhand, chuckanut, and breweries like these. Send me pils, polotmavy lezak, pre prohibition lager, etc.

I love English pale ales, porter, and stout; of all strengths. Well made ordinary bitter is one of the best things out there.

I love well made Belgian styles. Dageraad is probably my favourite brewery in canada.

I like many kinds of fermented beverage. Mead, cider, wine, kvass, whatever. If you dig it I probably will too.

I enjoy funky, and sour beer. Though rarely do I enjoy a beer with sour in its name.

I love american pale ales, ipa, porter, stout, etc. My hoppy tastes lean west coast or vermont (I usually prefer a hoppy beer with bitterness).

I love a dumb gimmick, but I want it to at least be potentially good. I lean more BA imperial stout pudding beer than I do caesar slushie beer.

Finally, please don't send me a fermenting bomb.

 

To my 2 targets. My hints are:

1: you live in a different province than me.

2: you also live in a different province than me.

Hmm other obscure hints.... Despite being born in your province, I have never been to either of your cities.

I'm happy with most
I prefer a nice crisp clear IPA, but anything and everything is good and appreciated.
I'm excited to try anything as long as it is top notch.
I'm not a lager guy in general, but if that is the beer of choice of your fave breweries, I'm all in for trying, especially if it comes with a story.
If you have barrel aged stouts or barley wines... yes please.

Thank you @Electros for the box. I was pretty surprised to have it early as is but you got me covered with some beer I didn't have in the past. Pretty much all of them are new to me and Collective works is a sure thing.. I'm excited to open recent cans I didn't buy for the past year or two. Thank you for the goodies, my older one was pretty concerned how I will share or not

 

Dear Target,

It was the first time I've got a pairing with someone is not sharing the same love of beer like my tasting. Don't worry, I've got you covered with really good bottles I was going to share with friends but you are lucky, you will get the whole collection.

I'm shipping a lot of boxes from US and I must confess, this is the bigger box I've sent for years.

Take your time because you will have to wait couple of days because you are living so far away from me.

 

Hint #1 for my target: You are west of me... very west of me. I have not sent to you before, nor have you sent to me.

I have your box pretty much all spec'd out-- I just need to pack it up and do a final volume tally. Will aim to do this today or tomorrow!

 

To my target, I should have this out the door by next weekend. I have a few more to get to re strategize my box after I read your likes and dislikes.
I'm west coast so you're quite east from me. I'll do my best. There'll be some big beers, some strange beers, and probably some swag.

 

Beers tallied, box packed. I've got 7.84 litres of beer ready to migrate west! I'll get the box weighed and labeled at work tomorrow, and will drop it off with Canada Post tomorrow evening.

Always feels good to get the box out early!

 

Just so I don't shoot myself in the foot, I should note to my sender that I do like DIPAs and TIPAs-- even the NEIPA style (I usually like the DIPAs more because they have more complexity and bitterness than their lower-alcohol siblings).
