Like I had said, maybe a slight edge to Rochefort in this case. But I think St. Bernardus and Westy are better with bit of age on them, so perhaps if I did the same with a few more years on the bottles it would have been different.

I apologize for not having a Belgian beer for this entertainment, but I do have some disgusting and filthy "art" banned in Florida. It's a bottle stopper from the 1958 Worlds Fair in Bruxelles. Think of the damage to our children! Ghastly.

I brought this up in part of a post in a thread about Victory Brewing, but this is an interesting point for this thread as well.

Looking at ABV's (company that owns Victory, Southern Tier, and Sixpoint) website, they have some interesting sales statements on this page:

Putting aside the lack of "Belgian-style" nomenclature, not sure how accurate of info they'd have on other breweries individual brand sales.

But I guess they are claiming that Golden Monkey outsells any of the Ommegang, Boulevard, Allagash, or Unibroue brands (and that they are using the Brewers Association definition of "craft" to exclude others like New Belgium and obviously Blue Moon)

Had a bottle of Agnus Tripel last night and it was magnificent.

American made Belgian beers are welcome here, right?!

Raison D'Extra, a Belgian dark strong ale from Dogfish Head. They weren't kidding on the strong part!

I have a couple bottles in the cellar, that beer is great with a good bit of age on it.

It was crystal clear the whole way pouring out of the can, then chill haze.
The nose was light clove. Taste was dry, bubble gum and light banana mostly with underlying grainy malt and spicy hops. Light and refreshing, I really wanted a second glass.

I hadn’t intended to post this, but it is just too darn good not to share. IMO, it is among the quintessential BIPA’s, like Houblon Chouffe and Poperings Hommel. The botanical mix with vinousness and earthiness. Bitterness keeps the sweetness at bay.

The Duvel folks should contact you to be part of their marketing team. You don't 'hear' the word "quintessential" used very often.

    Cheers to you!

We recently spent some time in Northern Ireland. We were disappointed to not find anything of the Belgian style in any pub, or commercial sales, place. Talking with a few of the locals it was not clearly clear why we could not get such, there. Can anyone on this thread help us understand the laws/culture/restrictions that would make such a limitation? Pretty much only the local beers were on tap. After several days of basically only drinking stouts (Guiness...) we wanted to enjoy a style of a not so far off place. Is it like this in other UK/Ireland pubs? Thank you kindly for educating us!

I can't comment as regards pubs but in England, Belgian Ales (Trappist/Abbey ales) are readily available.

    Cheers!

Nice to find a table beer just to enjoy. With three bottles in the wings and a very tiering day, I’m just enjoying it to help settle down. The review will wait for another day. Spoiler alert : It is very tasty and just right for the moment.

Here's a great small batch brew from Epic. oak aged Belgian ale with Cacao Nibs, cherries and spices...I think they were going for an old fashioned and it's pretty close. One of favorites form them..I buy a few bottles every time they release it.

Here's my favorite Quad ...one of my favorite beers too..from the taste to the label. It has a nice peppery taste with a good amount of candied sugar, carbonation and it's nice and boozy. One of the best Deschutes Reserve series beers
