I make no qualms about it - I am a beer dork. And I’ve let beers that I found were underwhelming get the best of me because of it. As in, I paid how much for this hyped up beer, yet I found it “so-so,” so now I’m a bit perturbed? And I felt that way about this beer for a second. AleSmith can’t make average IPA’s, can they? They can. And that’s ok. I remember trading for Dark Lord about ten years ago, and I didn’t let its lackluster performance get to me. It was actually fun to try. Overall, from ten years ago to now, I think breweries just make a lot more beer. Ten years ago breweries had “core beers.” But nowadays, I’ve found that breweries have shifted to just simply brewing more new beers (I can’t tell you the last time that I actually saw AleSmith IPA on a shelf [which defines AleSmith to me]). All things said, I still have a beer in front of me, and Beer Advocate is still chugging away. Have a good one today, everyone. And if the beer in front of you is subpar, that’s ok. I hope that there will be many more in your future.

    Hi all, Advocates.
Lunch break at home before returning to the office after a very early rise this morning.
I'm taking the opportunity to open one of the last beers of my "beer haul" that I still have to put on the appropriate thread.
Birrificio Balabiòtt (Domodossola, Piemonte, ITA) - GANASSA - West Coast India Pale Ale (5.5%)
33 cl can bought from Eataly (€2.90)
On the can: "Best before: 29/01/2024".
On the nose immediately fruity notes, not only citrus, also tropical and ripe fruit.
Poured it is a golden blond, slightly veiled but not too much, indeed overall clean beer.
Rather minimal foam and very little consistency.
In the mouth there is a fruity taste that envelops the palate with flavours that refer to peach, mango and ripe citrus fruits, not sour or bitter.
It seems very fresh for how fragrant the taste it releases and for a light body, even if the carbonation is a little dull (quite a lot...).
The finish is dry and cleanses the tongue, leaving the taste of fruit salad on the palate.
There isn't a real bitter note that lingers on the tongue (which I would have expected).
Too rich in fruity aromas and with a finish that I would have liked with a more marked bitterness.
Good and enjoyable, but which has some characteristics that can't help but make me think of a sort of compromise with what is "common taste", it was preferred to give an aromatic range of fruits to the detriment of a finish that should have been decidedly more bitter (an element that not all generic consumers might like, unlike the fruity taste).
Beer that flows and lets you drink, but I personally have a different concept of West Coast IPAs.

Good day BAs! Thanks @RaulMondesi for starting us off. I agree - breweries are engaged in race to see who can make the greatest number of "different" beers because consumers are allegedly chasing the "newest" flavor. This frequently seems to be a case of adding two or three more hop flowers/batch or adding some (normally inedible) add junks. Sad times indeed, but we gotsa keep plugging away, forcing those mediocre brews down our gullets in the hops of finding a good one.

Today's New Breakfast Beer falls in the same category - hope springs eternal.

Morning, BAs! I'm packing a couple of boxes before lunch so I can ship today, and you know I'm not doing that without a beer by my side. :grinning:

@RaulMondesi completely agree. Alesmith never had great distro over here, so I was fortunate to run across Speedway Stout or Alesmith IPA, which I think are both phenomenal beers and benchmarks in their styles. Consumers drive this trend, though, with demands for new and innovative beers (or trends), while classics languish on the shelves.

If I saw some fresh Alesmith IPA near me, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat, though.

Good day, all! This is Cherry Fluff, a fruited sour from Dimensional Brewing, Dubuque, IA. Nothing in-your-face about this one, just a nice sipper with understated tartness and subtle notes of cherries, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, pineapple, and coconut.

We typically receive AleSmith IPA, .394 Pale Ale and Speedway Stout drops at least a few times a year, and those three really work for me. I’d never go to San Diego for more than a day or two without stopping at AleSmith and their barrel aged room. Beachwood and Firestone-Walker are also must stops when up further north.

I find Beachwood Amalgamator, AleSmith IPA and Firestone-Walker Union Jack my three favorite core California IPAs that are dropped here at least once a year. RR PtE is my fourth go to, mostly on draft, while I’m in California.

Will return to WBAYDN, perhaps with an aforementioned beer, to pair with lunch.

I second this. Pipeworks Brewing Co. has over 600 different beers that have been listed on BA in their 11 years of existence. I have thoroughly enjoyed some of those. Wonder what brewery has brewed the most different beers?

Veil is one of my favorite breweries. They have brewed almost 1,000 beers although many are no longer active. I have had a lot of them (almost 200) which sounds like a lot but is only about 20%. That said, I do not want to think how much I have spent there.

Awesome beer to my taste. And at around $2,- reasonably priced in these parts of the World. Still more something for a Friday or Saturday evening to be honest
