Dark Lord Day (2023)

Ok, so let's talk about 2023 Variants. Send out your rankings.

#1 - ChemTrailMix - I absolutely love this one. I've had it every year since 2017 and it never disappoints. Cant' wait for it again this year.
#2 - Sundae Thunderstorm - I like that it is Bourbon Barrels and I like the adjuncts. Really looking forward to this one. Could be a new sleeper.
#3 - Handjee - Enough Said. This one, is very good every year. If I got a bag with 3 of these I would not be upset. (Because I could trade for anything else.)
#4 - Naturally Upset - I know it's Whisky, but I always seem to like the "Barrel Aged DL" more than I remember. Whether it's Keyrock or Hung-Drawn-N-Quartered or xBBAxDVR, they always taste better than I would think. I've really been getting into BA stouts WITHOUT adjuncts lately and I have high hopes for this one.
#5 - "RRari - This one didn't need to come back. It's ok, sometimes good, sometimes disappointing. I liked the 2020 version best with just the Cognac barrels. The 2019 with Port was too "Porty" too much red-wine/fruit flavors for me. So to bring back with Port barrels is disappointing. I would love to try this one in Bourbon barrels, but we'll see. If they can tone down the Port/Red Wine flavors or bring out the Vanilla and Chocolate flavors that would be best.
#6 - Raspberry Diamonds - Not very interested in this one. Freeze Dried Raspberries? At least it's Rye and not Port/Wine barrels. Can't see how this will be good, but I'm sure I'll end up with a bottle and will try it at some point.

Let me know what you have higher or lower.

 

#6- ChemTrailMix - It was cool the first year, but really surprised it warranted still being made this many years later. “hey, this tastes like raisin!” Fantastic. I don’t need a cinnamon raisin tasting beer.
#4 - Sundae Thunderstorm - Is this really a new beer? Sounds like a mashup of French vanilla militia or something they’ve done before and rebranded.
#5- Handjee - Great beer, but have had
It many times. Bring on the new. If Three Floyd’s gives me another Handjee my beer dick is going to fall off.
#3- Naturally Upset - 2 yr whiskey barrel aged? What could go wrong.
#1 "RRari - I keep pulling Handjee and Chemtrail. This is one want to try.
#2- Raspberry Diamonds - this should be delicious fudgey raspberry.

 

Thanks to a patron of the Metro this evening, apparently Municipal Waste is the TBD band. I have zero complaints if it’s true.

 

Based on the variants & bands, this seems like a very "same old, same old" Dark Lord Day.

Depending on your perspective, this could be great or boring.

I'm glad I passed, but understand if others disagree.

In other news*...I enjoyed Rites Of Ramm. Very flavorful for a 5% beer.

Just announced on 3 Floyds socials, it is Municipal Waste.

 

Can you even call it Dark Lord Day if Municipal Waste, Eyehategod, or High on Fire don’t play?

 

Yes, if Pig Destroyer or Amon Amarth still play.

 

Going to Dark Lord Day for the music is like reading Playboy for the articles.

 

So tickets are on sale again under the guise of “we held back tickets for Municipal Waste fans”.

 

I wouldn’t call it that exactly. Pulling them off sale for a few weeks to build up demand and FOMO, then putting a “limited amount” back on sale right before wristbands start shipping, that’s just good marketing. Confirming the last bands is more the excuse for putting them back onsale, rather than the reason.

 

I was able to add 2 Group B tickets just now (?). Might be teetering on the edge then.

Sorta underwhelmed by the band announcements, but I will admit I'm not familiar with Sybris. Will have to check them out.

Looked them up on Wikipedia and YouTube. An Indie rock band will be a welcome addition for this non- metal head. Of course they probably will have them in the 7-9pm slot after everyone has left
