Surly Double Furious BBA DIPA, 13.6% ABV. Pours dark brown, with a three-finger tan head that left great lacing. Aroma is roast malt, caramel, and bourbon. Taste follows, slightly sweet and moderately bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. If you gave me this blind, I wouldn't have identified it as a DIPA.

We went to a local antique mall today with our adult daughter so she could look for old dolls for her new sideline of selling creepy Halloween dolls. She's made a few for herself as Halloween decorations, and friends have been asking her to make them one. She can take a new one and make it look creepy, but she's starting at creepy with the one below that she's making for a friend. And this isn't the creepiest one she found today...one has a broken neck and the head is hanging sideways.

I couldn’t wait any longer, I suck at waiting apparently.
Imperial Pilsner from Salt Flats Brewing Company.
I guessed close! I generally tend towards Czech Pilsners for their bread and biscuits and touch of spice but this one was so tasty and easy drinking (and a 7.5% ABV out of Utah!) that I think I would pick up a six pack on a regular basis. Nice mystery beer Jonathan! Thank you!

I didn't think TH - Julius could be outdone, but this comes damn close! Different in the best ways possible.

    Canned 2.6.23

Poured at fridge temp into a weizen glass.

Pours a pretty and opaque almost cloudy pineapple/juicy color with a dense and soft eggshell colored head. Also leaves behind a loose lacing.4.5

Aroma is very soft and delicate, but consists of some hoppy, earthy herbal-ness and oat grain notes with a touch of sweetness. 4.25

Taste follows aroma, being subtle, soft and delicate again. Some light lychee sweetness, gentle tropical citra, and clear oat & milk sweetness I adore. Not terribly complex, but really really good. 4.25

Wicked smooth with a touch of sharp carbo but mostly soft and smooth, slight dry finish, really a perfect body. 4.5

Overall I really want to see oats/oat cream in more things, because I think it made this beer next level. Excellently delicious and memorable. 4.5

Thanks to @sulldaddy for this beauty! Fox Farms Quiet Life Czech Style Pilsner, 5.2% ABV; 4.52 overall

Pours an effervescent & slightly chill hazed gold with one finger of eggshell colored head. Nice head retention & lacing, drops a little brighter over time

S: Bready with grassy, perfumy & soapy hops; great nose, just got better as this warmed

T: Follows the nose, dryish with some lemon drops up front. More soapiness, some flinty dryness & a little lime as this beer warms up.
Grassy finish with slight grainy bitterness & lemons
MF : Medium body, soft carbonation, nice balance

Spot on for the style, pretty darn drinkable. Everything about this beer got better as it warmed up

Greetings to all you beer drinkers, thinkers, clinkers, sippers, grippers, chuggers, sluggers, lovers, adorers, deplorers, extollers, rock n rollers, servers, deservers, debaters, creators, believers, and receivers this weekend of BA BIF box deploying and enjoying... One last time, from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY, Happy New Beer Weekend! And thanks to all for the kind words and warm greetings. Guess my place here is in the "cellar dweller" forum from now on lol. Very nice to post in this thread, my favorite since I was just a lurker many moons ago.

Pretty sure thanks are due to @WillieThreebiers for this beer, but if my old man memory is wrong about who gifted me this, well, big thanks are legitimately due to this wonderful friend for his great generosity through the years, and kindness and patience dealing with someone who now has become a reclusive ascetic in pursuit of the tiniest footprint. Veldridjedn Love, 2014, from Other Half [IMG]

Light aroma, no oak, small amount of vinous to it, but the expected tart breadiness is a nice blend of varying grainy sourdough variations, some tart, others less, more like the grain smell of a grinder, wirth berry notes and green tea lightly in background.

More strength to the taste, which shows all the notes of the aroma. Excellent complex flavors of the different grains, especially the rye which makes a nice partner to the saison yeast tart of it. Still missing is the barrel, but the vinous notes are here, even lighter than in the nose. It has a bit of sweet beyond the berry notes, and a nice, very light bitter green tea to it that really nails this into a marvelous taste. Mouth watering, delicious are the words that come immediately to mind as I finish this sip.

Well carb.'ed, almost spritzy, medium body, coats palate nicely with no build or cloy, and finishes clean, sweet, tart grain, and lightly bitter tea.

I have no idea how this tasted "fresh" other than from reviews, and I can say it held up well from what I read, but apparently had much more barrel/vinous presence, and more rye and fruit notes.

I can also say that it is pairing marvelously with a bowl of my own herb, and hope it does equally well together with the vegan veggie and morel soup that is finishing now on the stove. And for those who celebrated 4/20 may I point out today is 4/22 (someone is bound to "get" that).

Let me end to point out that this community is full of the kindest, most caring and generous folks. It has been a great priviliege to be a part of this. How cool is it that the idea of shares, trading, and BIF's is to absolutely dazzle and stun with goodness our partners and friends? Here's to Great American Beer! Here's to all you fine folks! Cheers!.

I was lucky enough to be able to reacquaint myself with regular Ryeway a few days ago to establish a baseline.

The Boss spent time in third use barrels, rum, then rye whiskey, then Boss Ryeway. There is certainly some overlap between the two, plenty of sticky sweet caramel and toffee in each. The Boss though has a bit less brown liquor and some unique notes of orange marmalade and sweet cherries. The rye bite at the finish is more noticeable here as is the oak-y char.

No wrong answer here as far as I'm concerned, both are outstanding. The Boss is a unique beast that I definitely liked more than @Beersnake1

    Fuerst Wiacek - Floppy Disk

New England IPA with Citra and Loral hops, from Germany (6.8%).

Pours a hazy, pale orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus, tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, lime peel and papaya, as well as hints of floral, herbal accents.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, floral, slightly herbal and earthy hops, with citrus and tropical notes of grapefruit, lime peel, papaya and mango, as well as just a hint of potpourri. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some lime peel, papaya and floral, herbal accents lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

I think I'm starting to warm up to Loral hops, which sure took a while. Still not a fan of that floral potpourri character, but this is rather subdued here, while I do enjoy those herbal and earthy accents. This is rather heavy on the quite zesty citrus notes, with lime peel really standing out here, with hints of tropical fruit as well though. Feels a just a little light in body and mouthfeel though.

Had some afternoon beers at Bailson Brewing. They had a new Imperial IPA.

James & Bails, Imperial IPA, 8.5% ABV

Pours a slightly hazy orange color, but the haze clears up after a minute. A one finger white head with good retention and lace.
A big, pungent, and dank hops. Resin like pine, orange peal. This is an appropriate and big aromatic Imperial IPA
Taste wise, follows the nose, with pungent and dank hops up front. Resin, pine, orange peal again. Just enough malty sweetness in the background. Then, finishes with a great bitter bite. All around spot on and enjoyable for the style.
A full body with moderate carbonation. The resin and slightly sweeter malty character gives this just enough stickiness and chewiness to be enjoyable. Which all makes this something I can come back to very easily.

Well done all around. The hop character is big and pungent, with plenty of bitterness. Though that is never over done, and with just enough sweetness to help balance. One of the better Imperial IPA's I have had in Houston.

Overall score is 4.17, A- and will probably up the score on more tires.

Afternoon all! It is the big Spring BIF share starting today, so I am kicking off my weekend with the mystery beer @Rug sent my way.

So, I was warned this might be a gusher ... and sure enough when it got here, it was in a bag that had liquid in it, so it clearly leaked. I popped the cap and it audibly hissed, so it still has at least some carbonation.

Pours a dark, cloudy, dirty brown color. There is clearly sediment in the bottom of the bottle. A huge, billowy head forms on the beer. Like, 3/4 of my glass was off white foam when I first poured it. Eventually it settles down and just a thin layer of foam remains on the beer.

The aroma on this is unique - so I think it's got some brett going on - there is that wet horse blanket like note going on. Yeasty notes come through. There are what seem to be maybe aged hops coming through on the nose? Definitely some buttery notes, and wet cardboard. Definitely some off notes coming through on the nose of this one. At this moment, I am thinking of some kind of belgian beer with brett.

Taste has notes of aged hops, mint, and herbal notes. There are strong yeast notes and some malty notes. There is some wet cardboard character on the flavor profile. The whole presentation is not one that I really like, but its certainly interesting.

Feel is sprightly, lively - still carbonated. Medium bodied,

Overall it's an interesting beer. I am sticking with my initial guess - some kind of Belgian beer with brett in it.

    ..... and the reveal????

Well, you know how I said the beer got to me wet because it leaked en route? Seems it leaked enough to make the label underneath the foil unreadable, so I'm going to need @Rug to let me know what it is.

Thanks for the kickoff today @AzfromOz . Going with two Goldfinger Pilsners this weekend, a traditional version and a Black Pils scheduled for New Beer Sunday #948 (one year away from New Beer Sunday #1000!).

    Goldfinger Bohemian-Style Pilsner

Can Notes: Purchased at store temperature on 4/15/23 from Beer on the Wall for $3.75, refrigerated until opening today. 16 oz canned 4/6/23, 5.1% ABV. Bohemian-Style Pilsner: Triple Decoction. Spicy. Malty. Brewed and packaged by Goldfinger Brewing Company, 513 Rogers Street, Downers Grove, IL 60515.

This naturally carbonated lager is rooted in family tradition. Brewed like our ancestors did n 19th century Krakow. Na Zdrowie!

Appearance: Multiple pours into a large flute glass. Wonderful clear straw colored pour, generous carbonation and white creamy head leaving substantial soapy lacing in it's wake. 4.25

Aroma: Nice sustained Saaz hops aroma, pepper, cracker, grassy. Strong and pleasant. 4.5

Taste: Consistent with aroma, traditional Saaz Pilsner flavors, cracker, pepper, mild salt, grass, white bread. Liquid sandwich. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Light watery body, faint carbonation feel, medium plus dryness, neutral sweeet/bitter. Easy drinking, dry on the finish. 4.25

Overall: This is a very enjoyable pilsner, met expectations and delivered what I prefer without being salty which I personally experience at times with this style the past few years. At a higher price point than Pony or Pilsner Urquell, but still worth the plunge for an occassional treat. 4.25

I might pick up a $6 four pack of Pilsner Urquell (rated 3.25 by me, though in 2016 when I think I was stricter on scoring) for a side by side with this $15 equivalent. Perhaps a $10-$11 four pack of Half Acre Pony (4.5), going in my favorite among the three, with Rev Pils (4.0) for a four beer Pilsner tournament.

[IMG] Wow loving the All Star Cast to get things rolling. @AzfromOz you got skills man and you get it going early, keep it up man. @cavedave a BA legend to many. He was was so good at opening this thread, a brew poet and really ahead of the time. Stoked to share one with you all today. This might be one of many, but you all know that.

Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 4/12/23. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow orange with a finger sticky white head that leaves massive webs of lace, with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma is peach, papaya, passionfruit, mango, apricot, and a whiff of pink grapefruit rind. 4.5

Taste fresco peach, papaya, passionfruit, mango, apricot, and again the smallest amount of grapefruit but each sip lingers on the palate. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average for sure, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, maybe a little dry and it plays well and sadly you drink it faster especially at 8.7%. 4.75

Overall I am digging this one a good amount and I normally prefer my Galaxy to have a friend in a supporting roll. Recommend for sure. 4.5 Barleywine later in honor of Dave’s one beer a month.
