Beer was a mystery to me today and I keep track of Celestial for the most part. They are apparently starting up a satellite location to help with distribution. So thats cool as fuck if you ask me, give me more. Hoping I can catch cans of this cause its still not on their tap list so... I'm waiting to see. Shit is delicious.

    Cheers y'all!

Satellite lager 5.4% (I believe) from what I remember its saaz, pils malt, rice.
    You'd be all over this 1 :ok_hand: @ATL6245

Man the weather out here has been on full pendulum mode this spring. It has been an unusually cold spring, with temps still in the mid-30s up until this past week, then all of a sudden --BLAMMO!-- it's been pushing 80 the last couple of days. All together too hot this early in the year. Thankfully next week is supposed to be back to a more reasonable and appropriate mid-50s and raining. The only downside to that is that my wife's work stretch lined up exactly with the warm weather and she loves that kind of shit. So I've had to go make the most of it for the both of us, taking the little one out to the park for the afternoon, only caving when I couldn't get her to nap outdoors on the picnic blanket (she promptly fell asleep in her stroller as we were walking home. D'oh.)

Today's beer is a continuation of my exploration of the Czech dark lager style. Lowercase is a brewery down in the southern part of the city that I think gets overlooked a lot. I've enjoyed most of the stuff I've had from them, anyway, yet I never hear them getting any love. Maybe they don't focus on the styles that drive hype? Either way, whatever, I'm glad to have picked this one up.

    Polotmavy Pivo

The pour is lovely. Clear ruddy mahogany body with a good two fingers of khaki head. Eventually settles down to nothing at all and leaves just dots and ideas on the glass, but it presents nicely overall.

Nose is all malts all the time. Somewhat sweet with elements of dark roast caramel and sweet brown bread. The sweet kind of catches you in the back of your throat. Huh. There's some nuttiness and this tailors over to something in teh realm of earthy as well. Overall the nose is the weakest aspect of this brew, but it's not bad, just that the other elements are better.

Flavour is ultimately complex and bold. But to get to that final assessment we must approach each component. Starts off with the sweet malts: chestnut, maybe some roasty caramel that verges on an almost maple-like impression. Following this first profile it switches gears to be bitter. Decidedly. Bitter hops present juicy and earthy and a bit spicy and maybe even a nod towards herbacious. Finish offers a distinct and determined char which is very unexpected, but works really well. As it warms this kind of dissolves into component pieces from the previous mentioned. This char is accompanied by a nuttiness before recommitting to a piney bitterness through the end. Not as much of a lingering aftertaste as one would suppose, though.

Smoothe to drink with gentle carbonation, and a dry finish that still manages to (paradoxically) impart a little bit of sweetness to balance things; it's complex and enjoyable. I'm glad to have grabbed this one!!

    Cheers!

More New England/Connecticut love from @sulldaddy Fox Farm Tide Line Unfiltered IPA, 6.8% ABV; 4.29 overall

Pours a hazed & effervescent gold with one finger of cream-colored head. Okay head retention & lacing

S: Tons of tropical fruit, some citrus; Guava, Papaya & Mango

T: Guava, mango, oranges, limes & pineapple acidity/sweetness up front, a kiss of coconut too. Green melon, oranges & pineapple, plus a little dryness as this beer warms, plus a little pineapple & peach. Finishes a little dry with lime, pineapple & oranges

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, nice balance

Super drinkability, very nice favor profile

    Back for another new beer!

Tree House Jjjuiceee Project Galaxy+Galaxy+Galaxy 8.7% ABV Imperial IPA

    Aromas of peaches,oranges and pineapples.

Appearance is a turbid dark yellow. Has an 1 1/2 inch frothy head. Keeps a thick lacing thru-out while maintaining a thin layer of foam.

Mouthfeel is creamy, sticky and above medium with little carbonation.

Taste is a big fresh fruit salad; sweet pineapples, passion-fruit, peaches, and sweet oranges. Has a nice bite of bitterness that keeps sweetness in check.

Finish is touch dry and lingers nicely with a nice bite of bitterness. Maybe just a hint of alcohol at the back end despite the 8.7 % ABV.

An excellent all Galaxy hopped beer!

    Finally made it to NBW!

I should've picked up some Polygamy Porter, simply for jokes!

Joining you with a cat, which seems to be a theme from my favorite NV brewery as of late.

    Revision - Sparkle Muffin

    Canned 3.20.23

Poured into a willi becher glass at fridge temp.

Described as a fruit forward single hop
NE style hazy IPA. 'enjoy right meow' written on the can as well.

Pours hazy tangerine orange with a full 2+ finger white and loose head. Left a sticky lacing and thin cap. 4

Aroma is faint and light hops and similar fruitiness. 3.75

A decent dose of malt, hops(still not sure which one and haven't found any info on it yet) citrus rind and acidity. 3.75

Very light and quaffable, hard to not actually put it down it's so drinkable and refreshing. Softer carbo, and a touch of lingering resin. 4

Overall another good and solid brew from Revision I was more than happy to have tried and will keep buying their brews as I see them. 4

@sulldaddy apparently you & I are the only real fans of this beer, Foundation Brewing Co. Chaos Elixir BA Barleywine, 12.8% ABV; 4.3 overall

Pours an effervescent ruddy orange/amber with a thumb+ of sandy colored head, falls away so fast. Turns a bit murky, no head retention or lacing

S: Tons of boozy barrel, plums, figs; all fade down stretch, but only a little

T: Follows the nose, dry with woody hops, figs, dates, raisins, hints of brandy up front. Boozy tangerine marmalade, figs, bourbon barrel, oakyness and treacle as this brute warms up. Finishes oaky with bourbon & orange blossom honey, plus figs & apricot jam, plus plenty of brown sugar

MF: Pretty chewy, moderate carbonation, super warming

Loved the flavor on this, really pushed the drinkability up for me; this one could wreck an evening to be sure. If it was all as good as the taste

    Hoppin' Frog - Brenda's Wicked-Good Schwarzbier

16oz can served in a stemmed, slightly tulip-y glass from E9. Best by December 19 2025. Received from @Ozzylizard in NBS BIF #17.

Pours black with a big, dense head that collapses moderately fast into a thick, fairly even skin. Head is a tan color, and it looks like there's ample carbonation sustaining that thick skin. Smell is roasty, burnt toast and bread yeast. Some nutty sweetness, a little molasses.

Taste is a bit sweeter than I expected -- lots of anise and a little molasses, nuttiness is toned down and the breadiness seems to be gone. I *might* get the barest of hints of grassiness.

Mouthfeel is smooth and light, a little watery. Overall, it's a pretty good beer -- for my personal taste, a bit dryer would be good. But if you like your schwarzbier a bit sweeter, this is probably a gem.

I included that one partly for ballast, but also I figured I'd give you the chance to do what will most likely be the last ever review of one of their beers. I'd wanted to send something hoppy (they did some really good IPAs) but they were needlessly conservative about packaged beers. Probably one of the reasons they had to close, IMHO.

Lately, that's the local beer I drink the most. Love the style, myself, though I've only had around 4 or 5 different ones. @jonphisher happens to be the person who hooked me up to my first one, for which I will be forever grateful.

Another new beer for me this Saturday evening. This is more from @snaotheus in NBS BIF#17 ! thank you!! if you are short of beer and want to be buried, definitely take part in the next BIF round.

This is SIG brewing out of Tacoma, Washington and their Oak + Age While my Otter Gently Weeps English Barleywine aged in Elijah Craig and then French Port barrels. Final beer checks in at 12.8% ABV.

    onto my review:

I am sampling a 12 oz can of this beer at cellar temp. The date stamp is 1/18/2023. Pouring into my trusty snifter.
The beer pours more of a stout color with dark cola colors and no light passing through my glass. A creamy beige colored head of 1 cm foams up in my glass and fades to a sturdy edge layer soon after the pour. The edging sticks around till finish of beer.
The aroma is very bold and rich even from across the table I can smell this beer in my glass. There is some dark fruit, figs and raisin, also a good dose of bourbon, some brown sugar and hints of caramelized fruit. I get a little booziness and some wooden barrel notes here. Aroma is complex and appealing to me.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body, with slightly sticky texture and fine tingly carbonation. The beer drinks like a boozy sipper on the physical traits.
Flavor is similar to the nose advertisements. I get some dark chocolate, brown sugar, bourbon hits, and dark fruit with raisin and fig dominant. Here I also get some roasted note, almost char, probably from the barrels. I get a little black pepper bite on the finish, which I attribute to the ABV.
This is a robust flavorful and complex beer. I enjoy everything Im getting from this can. Very glad to have tried this one, even if it looks more like a stout than a barleywine.

Next up and No.2 for this NBW, thanks to @Whyteboar

I gotta hand it to you my friend, I approached this thinking it sounded good but far surpassed my expectations. You have sent me some quite excellent beers I this one absolutely makes my list!

    Arbor - Table Talk

    No visible canning date

Poured at fridge temp into a willi glass

Pours deep brown that it's opaque except for at the edges and even deeper amber/ruddy chestnut. 1.5 finger head, tan and settled fairly quickly. 4

Immediately hit with a killer nutty aroma, beautifully balanced by some sweet malts. Hands down (I'm 99% sure) my favorite aroma for the style. 4.5

Initial sip gives some roasty and slightly toasted malt, more dark bread and biscuit and touch of tangy hops which was surprising but good. 4

Body is on the lighter side but leaning towards moderate with a pleasant dark buttery and crusted bread aftertaste. Fairly dry, suggesting sips and swallows more and more often until it was sadly gone. 4.5

Overall, from my experience CDLs vary... Well in all aspects a bit, but this is absolutely my favorite of the style, and would be a highly regarded and regularly consumed brew in my home! 4.5

edit: (Seeing I was within .01%rDev of you I know this was a great beer and was very happy to see that I'm not completely bonkers.)

Thanks again for this delight Craig!

I had my first one a little over 2 years ago (Tree House Nomad) and haven't been able to get enough ever since. Notch and Sacred Profane make very good ones too, arguably better than Tree House, but Nomad has a special place in my heart. Such great beers for food too
