Revolution Brewing (2023)

VSOGBD is incredible, and blew away my expectations of a barrel aged scotch ale could be. Wow. Easily my top two of the deep woods releases this year, the other being Boss Ryeway (real talk, DBVSOJ is just too sweet).

 

Is Revolution still offering the Library Lotto Box? I was away in Tokyo when it went on sale.

Besides that; I respectfully offer Revolution's weekday 'Happy Hour' is one of the best beer values in metropolitan Chicago. Take advantage of it.

 

I’m not seeing it in the brewpub’s webstore. I picked up one last Wed, but there didn’t appear to be many left. Probably easiest to call the brewpub and find out from the source.

 

They sold out on the day of the release. I’d imagine if people don’t pick up the box they could resell them but I’m speculating.

 

It was in the cans-to-go section of the brewpub (Milwaukee Ave) menu last Wed. I ordered a box and picked it up when I went in for a late lunch (pro tip: get the Happy Hour smoked poblano quesadilla). At the time, there were a handful of Lotto boxes left in the cooler by the register. Maybe they held some back for the pub, maybe those were preorders that didn’t get picked up, I dunno.

 

Uhhh...should Beer Bazaar be selling 4 packs of VSO GDB on Oznr for $45.99? Didn't think that beer was going into distro. At that price I assume they got an allocation/agreement of some sort.

 

Must've been enough to go around. Cool. I figured at that price, not much of a margin there.

 

I grabbed it at open bottle Lockport for a similar price

 

Hoppin' Frog's Outta Kilter is pretty good, but they just made a higher gravity one (Shenanigans) that's even better. Though unaged, I enjoyed it enough to get a second 4-pack. Their barrel aging is hit or miss (often not long enough), but if they do this one justice it could be a stunner.

 

Did they still list awards on their labels?

I've generally liked the few beers of theirs I've tried, but always found the packaging kinda hilarious.

 

Yes. And packaging has only gotten more goofy. It's certainly their signature at this point, good or bad.

 

The Ray-volution DB VSODM (don’t shoot the acronym messenger) at the tap room right now is fire. I loved regular, but VSO didn’t improve it much in my (dumb ass) opinion. But this one off is spectacular.

Also, they are test batching a hop water and just have me a couple unlabeled cans to take home. As a big fan of Sierra Nevada’s, I’m very excited for this.

Overall, quite pleased with the pulls!

 

Maple Deth is pretty good, actually. Balanced, subtle & tasty. It'll never be a top 5 Deep Wood beer, but it's solid.

Maple Jacket is diabeetus trash, "implied sweetness" be damned. Sorry Marty (who will never read this).
