What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #3846

Typically we toast the brave captain and crew of The Edmund Fitzgerald in November. Today we toast Gordon Lightfoot, rest in peace

 

Cold weather into May good for one thing, continuing my cellar Spring cleaning. Don't see this Chicago brewery featured in WBAYDN too often, but people are missing out.

This is one of the few barleywines I buy, really nice fresh or in this instance 2 1/2 years in.

Not a great late night early morning yesterday, between a nonic pint glass breaking and cutting open my hand washing the dishes, and then catching up on yesterday's WBAYDN thread and learning of Gordon Lightfoot passing.

Took a slightly longer route from Vegas to Phoenix to hit my first what turned out to be a meaningless Spring Training White Sox Game (my last until there is a new owner) in March of 2020. Really enjoyed the scenery and of course listening to this tune as I turned onto Arizona State Route 74.



The finger picking at the end of this song always gets me. Red Shea passed away 15 years ago, but his work with Gordon Lightfoot and other great artists will live forever in songs including this deeper cut from Gordon Lightfoot's catalog.

Bottled 12/12/22. Poured at 50°. Always good for an eye opener. Too breezy cold to sit outside this morning, so I’ve retreated into the camper. Looks like a cloudy cool day forecast here…I’ll get cleaned up and head into town later. Cheers and have a terrific Tuesday y’all!

It has always been my (likely delusional) idea that after I have reviewed 1,000 beers I'll very much de-prioritize trying new stuff and pay (actual $$) homage to all the great beers I've enjoyed, and continue to see on shelves, but skip by for newer offerings. It'd be a shame to see something like Double Bag disappear. Delicious stuff it is.

Day 4 of the journey, brewery number 4 - Wicked Weed…drinking a new beer for them - “Green Freak” a WC IPA:



Finally!, a WC IPA - Grapefruit and pine nose. Taste follows with bitter citrus peel taste and linger. A little sticky resin on the tongue. Clear, clean, light…back to basics baby!

And I really come here for the food - a Pub Burger with a side of spicy collard greens:
