Drinking a bottle of Baerlic Brewing's Perpetual Astonishment that I brought back from my trip to Portland (OR).

Blond Barleywine that was Bourbon barrel aged with Coffee, Vanilla, and Cocoa. Drank at cellar temperature. I get all those flavors in the aroma and taste. Very pleasant in that its complex but not very bold. So very easy drinking.

Woa..this one is 6yrs old and has really changed from what I remember...It's an American but has almost no hops now...Light booze and malt..some grape and spice. it's a winner

The Veil - Double Barrel Circle of Wolves (bottled December 2022)

thanks to @TurkeysDrinkBeer for this one. i loved this beer! the maple apple brandy barrels worked perfectly with their CoW barleywine. plenty of bourbon barrel notes and flavors in their as well. not overly sweet. in fact, quite well balanced.

    cheers!

    3 Sheeps Deeply Rooted

Some have suggested that 3 Sheeps is getting better at their big beer game. If this brew is any indication, I agree.

Aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels used to finish 15 Year Weller Bourbon, the beer pours a very dark ruddy brown, almost approaching black, with a finger-and-a-half of sandy-colored head. The head quickly settles into a lasting thin cap and thick crown with a cappuccino-esque foaminess to them.

It has an enticing aroma of caramel, leather and distant red wine.

The taste is fairly similar, but a bit more complex. Caramel, leather, earthy hops and wood. I pick up hints of fig and similar fruits more than red wine here. There’s great warming alcohol throughout; omnipresent rather than harsh.

Creamy and full feeling with soft, lightly prickly carbonation.

This is very well made. A real treat. Thanks to the former BA who gifted it to me. :beers:

I'm in the mood for something sweet. This should do the trick, very excited for this one thanks so much @FBarber ! I feel like I've been tagging you a lot for some reason...

This beer is ridiculous. Huge, over-the-top notes of dates, brown liquor, and prickly, charred brown sugar are what grab my attention first. There is plenty more going on here of course, candied nuts, molasses, tobacco, vanilla, and just so much more. This is absolutely magnificent. Better than VSOJ? Maybe not but a lateral move is nothing to be ashamed of.

What year? Please check the back label if you still have a bottle. If it has a code rather than a date, then the first number in the code is the last digit of the year. (The appearance of your beer seems to indicate some age.)

Just was gifted a Fremont Brew 7000 for my Bday! Anyone had this? I'm thinking I'll age it 1-3 years. (It's already been aged 16 months in bourbon barrels.) At 14~% abv it'll need time.

Anyone had this and can report on how it was?

Here is the description of the beer from Fremont:

Notes: English-style barleywine ale aged in bourbon barrels.

Fremont Brewing began as a dream in 2008. Years later, our dream has come true in each and every one of you, our craft beer family. And like every family, we have had our ups and our downs, but we keep coming back together knowing we are stronger together. In your hands is a special nod to you, a gift for now that will continue to give many years from now should you have the patience to wait…Brew 7000. This English-style barleywine ale uses floor-malted English barley, Noble hops, and is aged in 10-15 year-old, single use bourbon barrels for 16 months to bring you a complex and subtle craft beer flavor experience. We brewed this to celebrate brewing our 7000th brew, and we look forward to sharing it with you, our craft beer family. “Barleywine is life.” – VWP

I realize that I'm in the minority with this opinion, but I've always liked this one more than Bigfoot. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly difficult to find.

Apparently it's not as sweet as previous versions, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm curious why you think this one needs to be aged? I have never thought that the BrewX000 beers were hot when fresh.

I don't think I've ever seen it near home. I found this six pack aging nicely in a party store in West Virginia. The bottle was dated 7/10/21.Picked it up on Sunday.

Another in a long line from my barleywine brother & benefactor @Beersnake1 ,Big Berhta from Kuhnenn. Thanks again Tim!

I checked, it's been 7 hours and 13 years since I had anything from Kuhnenn. Glad to get reacquainted by way of this interesting beast. Lots of caramel and fruit and both are intense. The caramel is sweet and straight up candy-like. The first descriptor that comes to mind for the fruity side of this is prunes, along with raisin and charred pear. I don't recall ever getting a strong prune note before but it works here. I'm also finding molasses and a nice vinous note. The ABV isn't listed, but I'm feeling like it's pretty elevated. This is good stuff.
