I spent a good portion of the pandemic just staring at my phone waiting for the IG notification so I could snag a package lol I get where you're coming from. Look at it this way. You didn't spend $200(or however much the package was) for one 375 ml bottle of barleywine. Not sure if you're local or not but if you are you could always try it on site whenever they add it to the menu

 

I am in LC. We typically do have the option to buy singles but not always packages before they go public. I also have the opportunity to buy singles of the packaged bottles.

As far as "do packages matter to LC members?" I'm not sure what you mean? My argument was that packages may keep LC folks from buying singles of non dark stuff, since they show up in packages. So Let's say I bought the smooth, la fosse, OLR Kriek, and both single farms as singles. Now this package drops and I'm thinking, I don't want doubles of the non darks. Of course I'd love to have another DBA, but not gonna pay the extra $. If I held off on the non dark singles and this package dropped, I'd be more inclined to buy it, because I didn't buy the individual singles of the wilds.

 

I am/was the same. If I miss something, I’m over it quickly especially since it’s money saved or can be allocated elsewhere.

 

I guess I mean, if the jewel is the dark beer in a package and you get to buy singles of beers in the packages, your first paragraph, then the package wouldn’t matter. Yet, it seems in this case you didn’t have that option of single/package before public so you’d have to bite the bullet for doubles if you wanted to double up on the dark. I think we are on the same page.

But as you allude, sometimes you have the option of buying a single and a a package before the public so you’d have two of a dark beer - like VW BBT for example.

They were $30 each, which makes me hopeful to enjoy a few on-site.

Wow crazy! I’m sure there will be some on-site. I guess everone had learned after terminus that rye is usually bangin. Sounds like the double barrel to come is going to be bangin too

 

Gotcha. I saw the “ American Barleywine” tag on the links you posted before seeing the description on FB.

 

to be honest, i just guessed because they gave us like no direction… i HATE when breweries don’t differentiate between english / american bw. they just call it whatever they want (i.e., “honeywine”). i almost went with American Strong Ale but they did say it was a barleywine base. i’ll update it once i try it.
