For certain! And my respect for them. The few beers I have had are solid, my comment does seem a bit harsh in retrospect. Thanks for calling me out on that.

FWIW, as an unbiased non-local, I really dug Liquid State’s shit when I was in town a few years ago and would for sure go back.

I hope that didn't feel like I was giving a smack down. Just sharing a perspective. It's only beer, etc etc.

We now have quite the beer crawl corridor, from Liquid State to Personal Best to Lucky Hare in Press Bay Alley. I don't really have high hopes for Revelry, but if they could pick it up that would be four breweries in six blocks.

Not at all. It came across as another perspective, and I genuinely appreciate knowing when my comments may have been understood differently than intended. You gave me the opportunity to better express intention. It’s all good.

And I totally agree. There is a nice density of good beer, and food too. It’s kind of embarrassing, but I haven’t visited the new Ithaca Ale House, OR Ithaca Beer College Town since they opened.

I was turned onto these guys last time I was going to Fox Farm (the one in CT) and got 2 hits on google maps. I'll probably hit these guys next time I do a Suarez run since they're not too far off of 9G. We certainly have no shortage of beautiful farm breweries in the Hudson Valley.

I'm not sure if you're into wine, but there's a vineyard not too far from here called Milea. They're really nice and would recommend visiting them if you're in the area.

Tom, I just visited the website and they have a cool video documenting their renovations:

If you ever visit this new brewery I would be interested in reading your thoughts.

    Cheers!

While this is not specific to breweries in planning, I didn’t want to start a new thread. And seeing as how many people on this thread are posting from parts of upstate NY, it just makes sense.

I’m going to be in Syracuse for 4 days in early June for work before heading to Watertown for a wedding that weekend. Looking for recs for breweries in both areas. I won’t have much time to travel more than 45 mins-1hr from Syracuse due to work. Already have Prison City on my list. TIA!

I recommend Buried Acorn. I think they fly under the radar with some really great stouts and sours. And of course Dinosaur BBQ.

All four of these are in Syracuse, within 2mi. of each other.
The above have been the most interesting, however, my depth of field in Syracuse is thin.

Middle Ages is good too, and deserves respect. Kind of iconic and one of, if not, the first craft breweries in the region.

However, IMO, if you are short on time, they are the lesser of these four.

    Awesome, thanks!

My boss loves Dinosaur BBQ, so I fully expect we will be eating dinner there a minimum of one night.

Seems like Buried Acorn is a consensus must visit. Will definitely put the other 2 on my list.

I'll agree with all the recs above, and would add Underground Beer Lab in East Syr depending on the days you're there. They have limited hours.

Syracuse has a pretty entrenched top-4:

    - Buried Acorn (Fantastic BA program, fun space)
    - Underground Beer Lab (Tremendous hazies and pilsners, space is… minimal)
    - Talking Cursive (Huge range of styles, especially styles you won’t see elsewhere)
    - Riseform (Straight bangers, small but inviting space)

If you’ve got time or are in the area, Local 315, Meier’s Creek and Willow Rock all do some solid things.

For a beer bar Now & Later is your spot, and there’s a new self-serve beer bar I forgot the name of that’s not far off 690.

For food you want Pastabilities, Apizza Regionale, Baldwinsville Diner and Otro Cinco.

Shit wish I had know that when I was down there. I know nothing about wine compared to beer but I do like it and dig visiting wineries. Good looks!

Oh, I gotta get to Riseform. This post is such a great summary for Cuse. Apizza's right across the street from Dino BBQ, too, so very convenient.

The new place right off 690 is called Harvey's Beer Garden. Nice outdoor space and a good beer list and you can taste a bunch of different things with that format, but I'm not sold on it being worth it.

    and yeah, N&L still awesome.

Harvey’s! That’s the one. Honestly I thought the value there was great, I must have done 2-3oz pours of like 10-12 beers and my tab was like $13.

Also I was there day of opening (completely random, didn’t know the place existed just happened to be in town) but they said during the summer they were planning on having 4-5 food trucks there on weekends. For sure will go back next time I’m in town.

My wife and I and a couple friends did check out Sunset Hill last Saturday evening. It was their first weekend advertising they were open, the previous weekend was a "soft opening". So there was a pretty big crowd, but they handled it well for a place just opening. Their parking lot in front of the brewery building was full so they were parking people down the road at the farmhouse, and shuttling people via golf cart. The building is fairly small with a bar inside and some high top tables. The majority of people were outside, enjoying the patio area behind the building with adirondack chairs, hanging out on the side of the building playing cornhole, or watching their kids feed the ducks in the pond. A lot of families. I think they had 8 beers available, some on draft, and some in the can. They were using plastic cups. They had a couple lagers, a wheat beer, a couple pale ales, a few IPAs. Also three different wines from a local winery. I drank pints of the one pale ale which was NE style, and then also a WC style IPA. Both were pretty good. They only had snacks in terms of food - hot dogs and bags of chips, soft pretzels

    Couple notes:

    - Mean Max in Troy looking like next month for opening.

    - The old Bottomless Brewing on Seneca Lake will be Watershed Brewing and they’re looking at an opening next month too. Different owners but they’re keeping some of Bottomless’ recipes in addition to adding all their own stuff.

    - Stopped at Relative Risk in Penn Yann, real cool spot. Taproom itself is like 3/4ths of a nice garage but they have a LOT of outdoor seating, a grass volleyball court, playground and sandbox for the kids, gazebo for live music. It’s a whole-ass complex.

    - Place called Antimony Brewing just opened in Lenox MA last week. I get out that way for work often (and it’s only an hour away) so I’ll check it out soon.

    - Owners of K2 Brewing in Rochester just bought — and this is not a madlib — an abandoned elementary school in Wayne county. They plan on turning it into a combo of Dave & Busters, a Lasertag place and Radio Social. Their words. Ambitious as fuck but a super cool idea.
