Going up to Yakima in a couple of weeks and I'd love to get feedback on breweries there. Bale Breaker seems to have nice outdoor space (which I want), but do they make good beer? Opinions on the best breweries in Yakima, taking into account beer style variety and quality, as well as outdoor seating environment?

    Thank you for any recommendations.

Yes, their beer is good, and the setting (surrounded by hop fields) is worth a visit itself. My main recommendation would be Single Hill.

Single Hill is the easy choice. Central location, lots of space, great people, great beer.

Also, if you need a good beer bar/restaurant recommendation in the area, Cowiche Canyon Kitchen and Ice House bar is a great place. Food is quite good and they typically have a very solid selection of local stuff on tap.

Excellent, thank you. What is the outdoor situation like at Single Hill?

    Bale Breaker.

    Bale Breaker.

    Bale Breaker.

Although not in Yakima directly, Varietal is very good.

Recently made the trip to Yakima. All the recommendations are spot on - Single Hill, Bale breaker and Varietal. Cowiche Kitchen for eats.
I went to Wandering Hop, as well. I wish I spent more time at Single Hill and/or Bale Breaker, though.

Lots of seating, fire pit, and sometimes a food stand on site.

Anyone know if there are hop farms or processing facilities that offer tours to the public? I found out about YCH Hop & Brew School recently but 3 (work)days might be a bit too intense.

I've never heard of any that are open to the public, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Whelp, a quick googlization found these: https://www.visityakima.com/yakima-valley-hops-and-beer.asp

And, these are the folks that own Bale Breaker: https://www.loftusranches.com/

Cowiche Creek’s view is absolutely stunning. Not my favorite beer but definitely worth a visit.
