I really wish I could remember what it was. It might have been related to the rise of hate speech on Twitter, and Musk’s ambivalence about it, if not open encouragement. It might have been his announcement to lift the ban on Donald Trump (I don’t even know if that ended up happening)—the guy did incite an attempted overthrow of the U.S. government using primarily Twitter, after all, and personally I think he’s a menace to the country. I am pretty sure I made the decision to deactivate on a Saturday morning, either late 2022 or early 2023, based on a specific piece of news, announcement, or tweet, for whatever that’s worth.

The funny thing is, I don’t necessarily dislike Elon Musk. He’s undoubtedly a fascinating character and exactly the kind of billionaire you would expect to find in these strange times—if he didn’t occupy this weird role it would be someone else. Part charlatan, part visionary, definitely independent minded, perhaps delusional, and arguably mentally ill. I just don’t trust him and I think he sometimes has colossally poor judgment—so combine that with enormous wealth, power, and privilege and I just think he’s dangerous.

@riptorn and @draheim you guys need to do a rock-paper-scissors over the yinyang avatar so my brain doesn't read these as someone talking to themselves

Just look at the date next to our respective avatars if you want to know who gets to keep it.

    That reeks of ageism!
Anyway, the avatars are glaringly different as anyone can plainly see, so no issues regarding who keeps what.

Plus your yin is on the opposite side of @riptorn , and the circle that encloses is a more delicate line. I actually never get confused like I have with some identical avatars in the past.

The same Harvard educated Ted Cruz who said, “my pronouns are kiss my ass!” at a Republican speech is worthy of a rational discourse on a BA thread? Not by me. But you pegged me - just venting. Not looking to change any minds about Cruz or this boycott topic.

The simple fact that Ted Cruz wants to actually open an investigation into the Bud Light-Mulvaney matter at the same time that guns have become the number 1 cause of death of children in America—and his home state of Texas has seen more than its share of high-profile mass shootings lately—tells me all I need to know about who he is and what he cares about.

It "It is not to be used lightly by any advertiser." Yet during WWII many ads for non beer related companies involved invocation of warfare, sacrifice, etc. In any case, using the flag lightly is common practice nowadays, and has been since the Vietnam war (remember when those American flag stickers appeared in car windows in the late 60s?).

Interesting that there's a super taboo concerning women and uniforms and beer ("And never any woman in any uniform or even a uniform cap!"). Wonder what that was about.

Lol the tune behind the ad was a Zac Brown Band one, which increases the entertainment and stupidity value.

Seems I remember seeing Abbie Hoffman on The Merv Griffin Show (might have been another show) back in the day. IIRC, they only showed him from the waist down because of the 'flag' shirt he was wearing.

I had a 9mm Luger, taken from a German officer, that I could shoot left handed and right handed. I was good at about 20 yards. That Walther was a great piece of machinery.

BA is better off without political talk. It subtly colors comments from time to time, BA is a great example of people /strangers getting together to share a common hobby, get to know each other, have laughs, learn, and support each other. It’s really unique for these times. I value the respect that’s given to others over having political discussions…. Wouldn’t take long for Blue-BA Red-BA to form, and no one wants that

A Reverse Elvis! (Yeah, seems vaguely familiar).

I think Phil Ochs once suggest that sort of combo* on his GUNFIGHT AT CARNEGIE HALL album as the last hope for America.
(* OK, it was Che, not Abbie but you get the idea).

Maybe threads like this one shouldn’t exist then—because the whole reason Bud Light decided to package its beer in camo cans is arguably linked to the Mulvaney issue (we can’t know for sure, but the timing is suspicious), and from there things inescapably get political. I respect the views of *most* other people on here, whether or not I agree with them, and I think we can talk about these matters without things getting acrimonious as long as everyone keeps things civil. But whether the site as a whole is better off with or without such discussions at all is another question entirely.
