Three Seashells from Equal Parts Brewing, in Houston, TX. Just a Pale Ale, 6.3% ABV

Pours a slightly hazed orange color. A one finger white head forms with good retention and lace.
A simple hoppy aroma. Citrus, lemon, lime. Light peppery spice and herbal character.
Taste wise, Like the nose, citrus, lemon and light peppery herbal flavors. This becomes noticeably sweet and bready. A light lingering bitterness is nice.
A medium body and moderate carbonation. There is a bit of oily/slickness here, and wish it was drier. Though a nice pale ale that I can come back to with ease.

A solid pale ale, and another offering from Equal Parts I enjoy. I can't say its the best of the style I have had, let alone from this brewery. Though still good and enjoyable for what it is. I'd recommend it.

    Overall score is 3.8, B+

Central Waters Brewing Fantasma Cosmico Chocolate Stout. Aged in rum barrels, with cocoa nibs, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, and ancho and guajillo peppers. I reviewed the pilot version. I really liked that beer. This version is pitch black, with no foam, and no apparent carbonation. The smell is strong with rum. Pepper spice, green pepper, cinnamon, chocolate, and vanilla round out the aroma. The taste is rum and cola, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and spicy peppers. It blends well, but ultimately, the flavor does not pop in any way. The mouthfeel is smooth, but very thin. There is almost no carbonation. Overall, this is a good beer, but I liked the pilot version better. When I talked with the bartender at Central Waters Brewing, he said they were trying to dial it in just right. I think for a beer of this style, it may be best to go all in for either being super spicy, or very rum-focused. This beer won't offend anyone, but it also probably will not have a huge following.

    Pühaste Brewery - Maru

Double New England IPA with Cashmere, Southern Passion and Nelson Sauvin hops, from Estonia (8%).

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, fluffy, lasting head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical, stone fruit and berry hops, with notes of passion fruit, papaya, peach and gooseberry.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly herbal and woody hops, with tropical, stone fruit, berry and citrus notes of passion fruit, papaya, coconut, peach, grapefruit and gooseberry, with hints of lemongrass as well. Finishes with a light bitterness and some passion fruit, peach, grapefruit and gooseberry lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

I really enjoyed the combination of hops I haven't had in a while here, although I would have wished for the Nelson Sauvin to come through just a little stronger. Nevertheless, the hops are quite vibrant and well-defined here, with an interesting flavor profile that's a little different from your typical NEIPA due the somewhat unusual hops used here. I certainly can't remember I had anything with Southern Passion or Cashmere in it. The fruitiness also has that certain starburst candy feel to it that reminds me of El Dorado a little bit.

Beer for Commoners from Off Color Brewing courtesy of @FBarber

This is made from the second runnings of Beer for Kings, a wheatwine that I intend to open later tonight. This is labeled as a light locker here and a small beer on the can, not really sure how to classify this.

Whatever the style, it is really hitting the spot right now. Light and clean with faint, bready sweetness and hints of berry, banana, and lemongrass. Really well done, can't wait to try its Royal predecessor.

Clear, golden yellow body; sparse carbonation; thick, white head, lasting and semi-creamy texture. Very nice aroma; light malt with a sense of delicate honey presence. Balanced, clean flavor; light malt with a mild hop bitterness; hint of herbal character. Medium-light body; crisp; lightly juicy.

A simple, crisp and clean lager that nicely quenches one's thirst.

I wasn't sure if it was alcohol or a bump on the head that caused me to sleep on the floor between two beds in my motel room.

    Under Cover of the Night
A Barleywine collaboration between Abomination Brewing and Barreled Souls Brewery. Brewed with pie crust, pecans and vanilla.
Poured a strong iced tea color with just a little more carbonation. But 12.5% ABV generally doesn’t allow much excess carbonation.
The taste gave me a definite impression of pecan pie for the first couple swallows and then just barleywine and vanilla were left. No idea how that worked. Fortunately the barleywine aspect was pretty darn good.
The feel was fairly flat but not unpleasant, it kinda went with the style. Viscous and smooth I think I would call it.
OA, I might be tempted to try it again just to see if I can get the pecan pie flavor to last longer than the couple sips, but who knows, there are a lot more beers I need to try!
    Cheers all.

    Camba Bavaria - Jubiläums Sud

Belgian Ale with East Kent Golding, Willamette and Jarrylo hops, from Germany (6.1%).

Pours a cloudy, deep golden amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of quite bready, grainy, slightly caramelly malt, herbal hops and estery yeast, with notes of banana, pear and nutmeg.

Taste is a good balance of bready, grainy, slightly caramelly malt and herbal, spicy, slightly floral and citrussy hops, with notes of lavender, black pepper and orange peel, as well as estery yeast notes of banana, pear and nutmeg. Finishes with a light sweetness and bitterness as well as some herbal, spicy and slightly fruity notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This certainly makes for an interesting, but slightly odd brew that's a little hard to pin down since the can does not provide a style description. It's brewed with Abbey malt and Belgian yeast, so they were certainly going for something in the Belgain tradition here, although it does not seem to readily fit any of the stablished styles, except maybe a Belgian Pale or Golden Ale. There's a focus on bready, caramel malt and estery yeast, but with a certain, quite herbal, slightly citrussy hoppiness as well.

In fact, it reminds me a little of the English Tynt Meadow Abbey beer, so maybe that's what they were going for here. Overall, this does make for an enjoyable, if slightly unusual brew with a good balance of malt, hops and yeast.

It's a warm day. I accidentally opened this one. (Was intending to send it to @Ozzylizard )
But it's pretty good so I'll see if I can grab another.

    16 0z can. Dated 02/02/2023
Glassy, golden straw in color. Fluffy white head, 2+ fingers in height. Slight lacing, solid retention.
Floral, grassy, mildly herbal with hints of biscuity malts.
Slightly sweet grain starts off, but definitely balanced out by that classic Noble hops blend of lively grass and floral citrus hints with a kiss of herbal notes.
Mouthfeel is crisp, almost dry on the back end. Good carbonation level.
    Solid.
