    Hi,

My older daughter is heading to Dublin next week for 8 nights for a pleasure/business trip.

Would love to get some tips for her regarding sightseeing (she majored in History)
as well as great, old pubs.....

    Thnx & Prosit!

Pubs: Dublin probably has the highest density of interesting pubs per square mile in the world. The Brew Dock, Against the Grain, The Black Sheep and The Beer Market all highlight beers from the respectable Galway Bay Brewery, but they also have guest ales. Temple Bar is kind of mandatory, though very touristy (the pub and the district named after it). The Porterhouse Temple Bar is recommended, also The Porterhouse Central (one of them will suffice). J.W. Sweetman is a nice brewpub. There are many more historically interesting pubs, many of them connected to literary persons, or to freedom fighters, but these pubs do not necessarily have the widest selection of beers.
Not a pub, but an upmarket cocktail bar that your daughter might like, is the spacious and beautiful Grand Central Bar.

A lot of good recommendations in the above post. For craft beer I’d also recommend Fidelity and Urban Brewing.

For great old school pubs I’d recommend visiting - The Stags Head, The Long Hall, Mulligans, The Cobblestone, Bowes, Grogans, The Palace Bar and John Kavanagh The Gravediggers to name but a few.

The link in the previous post cover a lot of good sightseeing ideas. I’d definitely recommend Kilmainham Gaol, Trinity College, Dublin Castle, Cristchurch Cathedral and Glasnevin Cemetery (The Gravediggers pub is right beside it too) but she should be able to cover a lot in 8 days as almost everything is pretty central.

If the weather is decent I’d really recommend a trip out to Howth to do the cliff walk and eat some good seafood.

For cask Irish ales & stouts, the Wetherspoon pubs : Silver Penny (near Connolly station); South Strand (near the Aviva stadium) and the Forty Foot in Dun Laoghaire (overlooking Dublin Harbor and the Irish Sea - beautiful view). The best beer in Dublin is also the least expensive. The quality of the food may be an issue.

The Galway Bay pubs offer a good selection of beers and better food.

If you desire a local pub, Ryan's of Beggars' Bush is near the Aviva stadium. I watched Liverpool beat Manchester City there in October.
