    Good morning NBW
I was able to pick up 22 new-to-me beers yesterday, so I'm well stocked for the first time in a while. Most were singles, but I grabbed a six pack of this one because Export Stouts are a favorite of mine and they are rarely seen.
    Dragon Stout
9.6oz bottle BB 18 FEB 24 poured into a becher glass at fridge temp 7.5% ABV. The beer pours black with medium brown colored head and a hint of brown around the edges when held to light. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves a good amount of lacing. The aroma is mild with dark chocolate and toasted malt. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt, slightly tangy, with ashy, earthy dark chocolate flavors and moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, yet a little watery with less than medium carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, good, but not great export stout.

I've got a lawn to mow now, but luckily, I've got some new lawn mowing beer in the fridge for later. Cheers all!

16oz can canned 3/31/23 into a Pilsner glass.
L: Pours a slightly chalky straw yellow w a 1" puffy white head that has VG retention, spotty thick & sticky lacing w broken banding and scattered sheeting.
S: Bready, sweet malts, a hint of grass, lightly floral, a hint of fruit.
T: Pale malts, grassy hops, lemon fruit & zest, light yeast, background honey, lemon zest lingers, Pilsner malt shines through.
F: Slightly juicy, chubby med-light bodied and soft with a med-fast gently drying finish.
O: A quenching and refreshing beer with elegant and smart tasting fruit/lemon. Superb drinkability, good price point, simple, remarkably soft. It is excellent in its style.

Some much needed rain last night, accompanied by a lot of thunder and lightning.
    Warm and sunny today.
I'm drinking Kim from SingleCut, a hibiscus sour that is 4.2% ABV.
A pretty beer, dark pink, clear, no real head.
    Aroma of sweet fruit.
The taste expanded the aroma. Tart cherry, lemon.
Nice tart mouthfeel, to me just the right amount of tart,

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #952! While rearranging my refrigerator for cellar gifts/trades last week, I noted I never rated this beer, nor had on draft in a prior Deep Woods release. This omission is rectified today.

    Revolution Double Barrel V. S. O. J.

    Can Notes:
Acquired four pack via Revolution Season Ticket ($15 + tax single can public sale price). 12 oz canned 12/29/22 at 6:44:05 AM, 16.8% ABV. Barleywine Ale aged in bourbon barrels. A shrine to oak, blending and patience.

Appearance: Single pour into a Revolutiontion stemless snifter. Head quickly dissipates leaving white ring above the base and a steady slow stream of carbonation rising from the dark brown / black base. 4.0

    Aroma:
Five minutes of warming, a strong sweetness emerges, oak, raisins and plums back. Let this set 10 minutes longer to warm, including cupping for a few minutes and noted the fruits strengthened and the barrel and bourbon receded. Pleasant, but anticipated more barrel here. 4.0

    Taste:
Very sweet sensation to start, raisins and plums with a syrupy malt flavor noted. Barrel felt more than tasted, at least initially, barrel hot with warmth but no burn. Now close to a half an hour in, the beer achieves proper balance with a nice smooth firm barrel backed by light oak taming the excess fruit sweetness enjoyed earlier. Let this one sit longer than normal, it's worth the wait, great in the 30-60 minute mark. 4.5

    Mouthfeel:
Syrupy medium to full creamy body, negligible carbonation. Definitely leans sweet, though the strong bourbon barrel attempts with some success to contain. Very potent, drinks stronger than the very strong 16.8% ABV, though perhaps that's a sign of my weakened tolerance over the years. Sweetness lingers very pleasantly on the finish. 4.25

    Overall:
Somewhat of a roller coaster, but once settled in between the 1/2 and 1 hour mark, this is a very potent and enjoyable offering. Would say VSOJ hits the sweet spot for me in terms of the three major iterations of Straight Jacket, but very glad to have this part of my season ticket package. Also grateful I can easily obtain Straight Jacket, my favorite annual barleywine release. You brough a fierce punch Revolution, the only question is how long will my nap be after finishing. 4.25

You'll want to train extensively before cracking open this one. @beergoot

Looking forward to catching up on the past few NBW/NBS threads!

@Whyteboar, told you I'd make my way to drinking more of the beers you sent me and here we are!

    3 Floyds - Gumballhead

    Canned on 8.16.22

12oz can poured into a willi glass

Pours bright bjt cloudy golden with a finger foamy head, little lacing left behind and settled into a slight ring. 4.25

Aroma off the can is mostly lemon dominant citrus. Off the glass I get much more hops and then followed by some lemon zest. 4

Taste is a fairly mild bitter hoppy and bready mix, with lemon peeking it's head out. 4

Body is even balanced carbo and creamy wheat mix with a residual but subtle bready aftertaste. 4.25

Overall a great and very tasty summer wheat beer. More savory than sweet, filling over refreshing, but very good overall. 4.25

@Whyteboar, I think this is second only to Underground Mountain Brown, it's SO good! Both cold and as it's warming.

    Founders - Ultimate Oktoberfest

    Bottled on 7.25.22

Poured at fridge temp into a willi glass

Pours a true and clear light caramel color nearing a bronze. Head is an eggshell foam that settles into a persistent ring with some visible but occasional rising carbo. 4.25

I get mostly bourbon on the nose, though since it's been 19mos(9mos aging) since bottling I get some herbaceous green hops that are fairly pungent. 4.25

Taste is bread, closer to a cake or sweet bread, some oak, vanilla, and sweet malts, it's a killer blend that I could drink all day (and end up on the floor) 4.5

Body is very smooth and drinkable for how high the abv is, which is a danger, because I want another. 4.25

Overall a delightful and diverse mix that works amazing in all the best ways. A BA märzen is a beautiful thing and cheers to Founders for making it happen! 4.5

    Bavarian Bliss
7.3% rye barrel aged Marzen by Hoppin' Frog

Poured from a pint can stamped best by 2026, the lager pours an opaque amber-brown. Minimal carbonation and no lacing whatsoever.

Aroma is sweet malt, caramel with whiskey. Butterscotch notes appear upon warming. Very pleasant.

Taste follows nose with the rye being fully present. Given the ABV, the barrel presence demonstrates the brewers usual skill in masking alcohol. They make some heavy hitters that are easy to drink. Here they opted to feature the booze. It's not hot, but very present and flavorful.

Despite the dearth of carbonation, I still liked the mouthfeel overall. Smooth and a twinge of carbonation makes this one an easy drinker.

This beer is one of the few barrel aged lagers I have ever tried. More carbonation would raise this Marzen to excellent. I'll keep an eye on their page and visit if it's ever on tap.

    ...cloudy pale orange appearance.
...light carbonation with about a medium body.
....aroma is lime peel and flesh, fresh raspberry, raspberry jam, cereal, slight earthy sour funk.
....taste is lime upfront which gently dominates with the raspberry showing up in the aftertaste and lingering. Cereal with a mild sour funk.
...overall this brewery seems to be in a roll as this was another nice beer that was totally worth trying[IMG]

Poured from a 16oz can stamped 05/03/23 to a Nonic at fridge temp.
The body pours out opaque-hazy and is light yellow/gold in color. A 1” white head comes with the pour and fades to a single layer of tiny bubbles after 3-4 minutes. However the lacing is strong throughout the session.
The aroma is subtly dank but with plenty of fruit poking through- grapefruit, grapes, pineapple and more.
The taste is similar, pineapple is strong on the front end, a nice hop bite on the swallow and a grape glow after.
The mouthfeel is soft and creamy.
This is a good beer and I was happy I caught it fairly young in the can.

Bottled June 2022 enjoyed May 21, 2023 - 5.1% ABV - poured from a capped-and-corked 750mL bottle into my Drie de Fonteinen tumbler.

Clear cerise liquid with a low stand of misty rose soft peaks. Fine, batter-like lacing; very good retention.

Inviting, gentle, complex aroma with jammy/tart fruit, oak, and funk in that order.

Macerated berries, plum skins, and red wine vinegar at first sip. Low oak influence with some delicate "wild" notes to balance the fruit. Low grassy bitterness compliments the earthy/oaky finish and accentuates the bramble notes. Fairly dry with some faint returning sweetness. Excellent.

Medium-light body, not-quite-effervescent, with some gentle tannins.

Highly enjoyable, wonderful expression of fruit, approachable but by no means superficial.

Brewer Notes: New York State Ingredient Zwickel Pils. This batch brewed with 6-row barley grown up the road & New York-grown Crystal, NY-grown Tettnanger, and NY-grown Hallertau hops. Do not expect German/continental character in this bold and hoppy NY style lager...this is all NY.
    Kellerbier / Zwickelbier
A rather old, rare, and unique German beer style, Kellerbiers are unfiltered and unpasteurized lagers that date back to at least the Middle Ages. The beer is matured, unbunged (beer is exposed), in deep vaults. The final product is a smooth, naturally cloudy beer that's rich in vitamins from the yeast. Hop bitterness can be high and alcohol will vary. Zwickelbier is similar to a Keller, but not as pronounced.

Ranked #9 for the style on BA

Can received in a trade with my dentist. I believe that he worked with Dan Suarez at Hill Farmstead. Highly recommends the brews from Suarez . I have since purchased beers from Suarez and agree with his recommendations

16 oz chilled can poured into a pretentious beer glass poolside at Schloss WunderLlama. Translucent golden yellow liquid with volcanic streams of carbonation results in a three finger white foam cap. Reduces to a thick layer and occasional spotty lacings

    Aroma is grains, malts, grassy

Taste is grains, malt, grassy and finished with a gentle hop kiss

Mouthfeel is a clean, crisp, gentle hop nibble at the end

    Good beer

    Wiedemann's Bohemian Special Brew
    [IMG]

12oz can stamped 04/18/2023 poured into a vintage footed bar glass at fridge temp 5% ABV. The beer pours bright, pale golden yellow with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and scattered bubbles. The aroma is mild with pils malt and earthy / herbal hops. The taste is semisweet pale malt with more of the earthy hop flavor. Minor amounts of metallic and sulfur notes, but not pronounced and probably ok within the style. Mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. No diacetyl. Overall, good.

The corporate owner of the Weidemann's name was brewing a beer with a similar name here in Evansville, Indiana in the 90's when I was in college. It was properly awful $2 a six pack stuff back then. Just seeing the label made me pick up a six pack. BTW, the BA score for this beer is quite skewed by "historical" reviews of the subcontracted beers of the 80's and 90's...

    Cheers all!

Most of the collabs see distro, from what I can tell; Abomination has done quite a few, including under the WITF label. I haven't gone beer shopping since before surgery, but I'll probably hit the store early this week, and they've got a good representation of both Tox and Abomination.
