    Hello friends.

Now that the weather is consistent and I'm a recent CT transplant (born and raised tho) I'd like to get some people's opinions on decent breweries on farmland or decent farm experiences with ok beer. I'm more looking for fun experiences as long as the beer is decent+

    been:
FOX FARM (Salem CT)- been there, love it. definitely on my rotating list of beer drinking spots. i'd call this more of a barn brewery than a farm brewery there since your access to the outdoor space is pretty limited
HOP CULTURE (Colchester CT) - been there, beautiful space with cool events, their beer doesn't speak to me. best cheese in the world made next door, though.
WEST COUNTY CIDER (Shelburne Falls MA) - beautiful views, walking trails, very private and quiet. small outdoor consumption area, bottles only no draft. limited hours but a great experience with the owner at the tasting room helm.

    want to go/looking for opinions:
    Stoneman Brewery, Colrain MA
    Maple View Farm, Granby CT
    Westfield River Brewing, Southwick MA
    Caius Farm Brewery, Branford CT
    Norbrook Farm Brewery, Colebrook CT
    Throwback Brewery, North Hampton NH

and would love to hear about anything similar in and around new england that's a cant-miss.

    Thanks in advance

    GBO

Tilted Barn in RI is technically a farm brewery. Because it’s RI - lots of options close by, relatively speaking.

Surprised Kent Falls isn't on your list. They are a working farm and were the first farm brewery in CT. Not sure there's a lot to do there for fun, but they grow their own hops, sell meat and eggs from their farm, and have a hop harvest and pig roast every year. Plus there's lots to do in nature in that area.

This place up in Maine has been on my list for a bit, but haven’t made it yet, although I have heard good things

Stone Cow in Barre MA is worth a visit if you’re looking for a farm brewery. While I would consider their beer average, the location is great and they have food, as well as music on the weekends.

Sasanoa on Westport Island, Maine and Absolem in Winthrop, Maine. Absolem makes their own cider but they do pour local beer. They also have cocktails and wines. Sasanoa is all saisons or farmhouse ales using ingredients grown on their farm. Both offer great settings and great products.

I would add Caius to the list of those that are more of a Barn Brewery than a Farm Brewery.

    They're worth going to!

Strange Greek and Roman Classical history theme that most won't know or care anything about. (Historical descriptions of their beer names are super superficial and have nothing to do with the beer). Nice atmosphere. The two beers I had there were better than average.

They just posted that they will be planting their Hops garden soon. That will move the needle a little closer to being a farm.

best brewery in the state might just be Fox Farm

Don't bother. Some of the worst beer I've ever had.

Yeah, they're pretty much a wedding venue that happens to have a "brewery."

All the beers I had tasted like Chlorine.

Stonecow is really fun, beer is fine to good, food is good.

Oakholm- also fun, beer is good

Milk Room- thought the setting was kind of charming, beer was kind of weak to me. Perhaps it’s improved?

On the subject of farm breweries , I thought I’d share my experience today at Kent Falls. I’ve always been a fan of most of their beers. Some styles they do better than others. I appreciate that they seem to stay in the few lanes in which they excel. I’ve had lots of their beers over the years, but only just today visited their beautiful grounds today after a hike nearby.

Unfortunately, the town of Kent has completely changed its laws, seemingly to target only Kent Falls Brewing. No longer are they able to serve pours any larger than 2 oz, and a limit of 4 per person. Not only can their tasting room no longer serve beer of significant portions, they are no longer able to serve food. Not even a lousy bag of f*(king chips.

It’s small town hillbilly government overreach at its worst. I hope that their tap room sales account for only a small portion of their revenue so that they can survive.

Oh man, this is terrible for them. The town has been f'ing with them for years. Why? It's not like there's rowdy or drunk people who visit. Such a shame.

This is terrible to hear. One of my favorite WA breweries from my time in the NW, Acadian Farms, was the victim of a similar situation. It seemed even more depressing because the couple who owned it were Katrina survivors/refugees who were displaced and found success up north. The town's witch hunt against the brewery caused the business to fail, the farm to close, and sent the couple back to New Orleans out of necessity.

I hope there are enough Kent Falls supporters up there to complain and attend any relevant town meetings.. I'd sure like to go up there and have a proper pint someday.

One of my faves in Maine is Odd Alewives Farm Brewery in Waldoboro (midcoast.) Right down the road is Oxbow's original brewery - lots of trails to explore.

Keep trying to get to Caius, litterally 5 mins away. But soccer games and practices eating up my time.

Definitely doesnt look like a farm brewery when driving by, but growing own hops counts for something.

Im pretty sure the property was an old chicken farm well before Caius purchased it.

Will try to get there soon myself.

It's more like affluent small town government overreach at its worst. Kent is the opposite of hillbilly. There's a fuck-ton of money there.
