    Hi Folks

I'm Peculier and Old! Based in Birmingham, England, I'm now in my 60s and have been a beer fanatic since my late teens. My preferred beers normally are dark ales (the blacker the better) - more Porter-ish than Mild, however.

Despite my preference for things British, I will sometimes opt for the European continental stuff, which is how I found your site today. Next to my normal real ale establishment has just opened a new continental specialist (same ownership, so I'm not being disloyal!). It was here that I found something very special indeed - Duchesse de Bourgogne. Sour in the extreme, but a magnificent drink. On my return home I looked the beer up online, and found a fine review on your site, which is how I discovered it. How I'm missed it all these years I really don't know!

Unfortunately I think the Duchesse is only a 'guest', otherwise I could see me making a change from my English real ales to this stuff!

Anyway, enough of my waffle. Rather late in the day, I'm glad to be aboard!

    Regards

    Paul.

Glad you found us PeculierandOld, and Welcome to Beer Advocate!

Also glad you found The Duchesse, it is one of my favorite beers and styles, and so glad we can access it in Chicago. Rodenbach Grand Cru is also and Cuvee Des Jacobins Rouge and BFM Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien are my favorites in the category and among my favorites of any style.

I love coming across cask pours here, and also enjoy Porters, Bitters and Mild regardless of delivery (cans, bottles, cask, nitro, draft). Love picking up Fullers and Coniston here.

Hope to see you around the boards Paul, whether you choose to rate beers or join our discussion threads. I also welcome you to join us at our daily virtual bar known as What Beer Are You Drinking Now which you can find in the Beer Talk Folder.

Hi, Paul. It's nice to get to know you. I have to tell you though that the 60s ain't old! Maybe the amount of beer/alcohol that your body can handle nowadays is a good barometer of your age, and we all need to be respectful of that, but don't tell yourself that you're old. You'll find a lot of us around here who have a lot of birthdays behind us, so you'll fit right in.

We're glad that you found the site, so welcome to you. Hang around as much as you'd like and enjoy your time here.

Howdy! One of the things I aspire to most in life is to get older. Another is to become more distinctive. So, in a way, you are singing my song. (And I’ve been singing it for quite a while myself ;-). You will find the vast majority of us, here, are friendly and a bit touched in the head.

Please explore more in the forums, beer and place postings. We certainly can use more depth of field in the UK and Ireland. Hopefully we get to know you well as time wobbles forward. :sunglasses::beers:

Hi ya Paul! You'll really enjoy this site as it's fractal and fun. I too hadn't thought much about sour beers and or Saisons, etc until I got onto BA a couple yrs ago. Wells of info. Sometimes the chase is better than the catch but along the way you could find something awesome that you weren't looking for. Welcome! Cheers!
