Social Project Brewing ( Bentonville, AR ) Riptide Tropical Sour; Coconut+ Pineapple +_ Mango, 6.0% ABV; 4.26 overall

Pours A hazed & effervescent gold, some floaties, with a pinky of beige head. Some head retention & lacing, plus plenty of floaties

S: Apricot & coconut, some mango shows up once the beer has warmed up

T: Pineapple, coconut, mango & a little saltiness. plus lime up front, some dryness & tartness as well. Plenty of pineapple & coconut, plus tartness once this beer is warm, a little mango sweetness as well. Finishes with a trace salt, some tartness & just a ton of tropical goodness, with a kiss of lime

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, pronounced acidity. Carbonation tails off once warm

Delivers all the promised flavors with plenty of drinkability. Easily one of the best Sours I've had in a long time. If everything would've kept pace with the flavor; this is an A+ beer. Instead, it is a solid A

So funny enough, this beer has been re-branded as "Jalapeno Jack - No Heat," and there is a HOT version now, as well.

I much prefer the heat from the newer one, but I will also grant that the one I sent you is more balanced and has a better malt profile.

Of course, now that I know you really enjoy some chili spice in your beer, I might need to buy another 4-pack of the hot version ....

    Damn, you're killing it today!

I'm 100% with you on this beer. It's certainly not bad, but it's underwhelming, for sure. Reminds me quite a bit of the DuClaw Pastriarchy series.

I will say that I enjoyed the rye whiskey barrel aged one quite a bit more. I don't believe I had any of those on hand to send you, but I won't rule it out in the future. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello my beer friends, have enjoyed reading what you all have been drinking so far this weekend; as always these days a little later to the party, but better late than never. Joining our friend @snaotheus with a domestic Hefeweizen.

Yesterday I went to look for a new to me hefeweizen for this weekend because of that thread that was started recently. As I wandered around the store yesterday I randomly decided to check what I deem the random aisle, mostly restocking cases and a few varieties...well a case of lovely looking six packs caught my eye, it was newly designed cans of Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat; a beer I never have reviewed and have not had in I would guess ~10 years or so. I remember at the time thinking "wow this one is very heavy on the spice notes." Time to see how this beer is now...

Troëgs - Dreamweaver Wheat (Hefeweizen 4.8%)

Light gold in color, cloudy but see through, beautiful puffy mountain of perfectly white head rises and rises upon pouring; as it settle it creates mountains and valleys; eventually landing as a thin microfilm layer, no lacing. This beer really looked the part headwise I just wish it stook around a little longer. Didn’t fade super fast, just quicker than I’d hoped.

A very balanced yet also very aromatic nose; there is ripe banana, some yeast pops up upon each swirl, clove spice present but more in a supporting role; there is a refreshingness to the nose of this beer, bright describes it well for me.

Taste is banana bread-like at first, with clove lingering lightly in the aftertaste; starts to verge into classic bubblegum flavor.

Soft mouthfeel and light body, possibly a tad thin, nicely carbonated, with a refreshing bite on the finish; little no zero bitterness is found for me; very refreshing and easy to drink.

This is one incredibly refreshing and drinkable hefeweizen, I'm very glad I bought some to revisit. Highly recommend.

Just BA doing its thing...a small package arrived addressed to me today, was very confused. I open it to an interestingly packaged object. Wrapped in tissue paper and closed with wax and a stamp print, like a medieval scroll...what the hell is this thing...I open it to a pattern that brings me complete joy and a huge smile, still had no idea who sent it, I read the first business card, who the hell is Dan!? Then I see the second card......Thank you Chris... @zid

Ship Bottom Brewery Hop and Hazy IPA - I picked up a few singles from this local brewery and looking forward to trying them. Pours from a 16 oz can (canned on 05/24) a turbid hazy orange, frothy head. Smell is fruity and the taste follows the nose, a little creamy/yeasty and just enough bitterness to keep it from being too sweet and ends very balanced. At 6% it's not over the top and a typical hazy, which to me is a good thing. Budmo!

Ship Bottom Brewery Barnegat Lager - This is an amber-hued Lager brewed with Munich and Pilsner Malts and Czech and American hops. I'm a big fan of Lagers and Amber Lagers so I don't see how this can be a miss for me.

Pours from a 16 oz can (canned on 05/11) a wonderful clear amber color, nice head that lingers the entire time. Smell is caramel-ish and just a touch of that Lager-y smell coming through. Taste is excellent, toasty/roasty with some caramel and then it ends crisply, balanced and a bit dryly. Now this is beer to me and takes me back to something like a GL Eliot Ness and a few other Amber Lagers. At 5.8% just a tad up there if you are looking for a session beer but I'm fine with it. Budmo!

Do you have an opinion/thought about what style of beer this is?

On BA it is categorized as being a Märzen but based upon your descriptions in your post it ‘reads’ more like a Polotmavý to me.

    Cheers!

I agree with you and it's more Polotmavý to me than Marzen. The brewery classifies it as a German Lager but to me it leans more Czech, particularly with the creamy and smooth mouth feel. If you try it some time let me know what you think.

    Warka Strong
500mL bottle stamped L2277616B227 poured into a becher glass at fridge temp 6.3% ABV. The beer pours bright medium amber with light khaki head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is mild with sweet toasted grain. The taste is semisweet, mildly nutty, malt with minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, better than most European strong lagers, but that's probably partially due to the relatively low ABV for the style.

    Cheers all!

Wild weather day here alternating downpours and beautiful blue sky. Our chorus did an record performance of our spring show down towards Cape Cod...no traffic. The rain maybe decreased the numbers, but it was pretty lively - fun, no pressure show.

Total whim purchase. Rupee from Dorchester Brewing. Called an AAL here. On the can, it says a "world-renowned Master beer brewer and an award-winning Infian chef have collaborated to make Rupee the go to beer for Indian and spicy cuisine. Furthermore, Rupee has been brewed to a traditional Indian recipe using the finest all-natural rice, maize, malted barley, and three types of hops for an unforgettably smooth and refreshing finish".

Wow...that's a ton of verbiage on a beer can. Not so sure about the traditional Indian recipe bit...but ok...

Pours slightly cloudy golden color, tight white head that falls to a ring and island.

The smell is surprisingly pleasant. Bready, grassy and floral hops, a huge hit of lemon. I guess there is rice and corn in there, but I get the bready/floral/citrus as the dominant smells.

The taste is pleasant. There's a lot on the aromatic end - I get a nice, mild spice at the very end. Up front it is bready, but less than the nose suggests. It's got a nice layer of lemon the connects the bready front end and the mildly spicy finish. Maybe a hint of corn comes through with repeated sips, but not much.

The feel strikes me oddly...it seems a bit thick for an AAL, almost "pasty". No bitterness to speak of, and maybe a tad bit undercarbonated. It carries a lot of aromatic impact at the end - floral, lemon, mild spice.

Overall, this beer would absolutely do what's advertised - accompany spicy flavorful food. I actually find it easy to drink on its own and fairly tasty. It's got some aspects of a wheat beer to it, although not as light and refreshing. Not diggin' the texture - it's odd and it bothers me. I'm thinking 3.75 or so on the scale.

Ship Bottom Brewery Coastal Living New American Pilsner - Third and final beer for the evening and ending with one of my favorite styles, Pilsner. This beer has a classic German-style Pilsner grain bill and is hopped with Citra and Saaz and delicately Citra dry-hopped before Lagering.

Pours from a 16 oz can (canned on 05/19) a clear yellow, frothy head. Smell is the usual Pilsner but I am picking up on the Citra, which is one of my favorite hops. Taste is...interesting, it has that classic Pilsner taste but there is something different going on here and it's a wee bit Pale Ale or session IPA-ish but it still works well, ends dryly and crisply; the Saaz and Citra play off of each other in a nice way. At 4.8% it's refreshing and not too heavy at all. I am enjoying this and would gladly drink again. This brewery is now 3 for 3 with me (and I have another to try but that will need to wait) and I'm definitely going to look more into them. Budmo!

Tough week. Last 2 days 22 hours so yeah it's summer on the waterfront here in RI.
I grabbed this the other day. Never had an IPA from BL ( as far as I remember) just some really interesting beers so thought I'd give it a shot.
    Double Actuator DIPA
Pours a clear beautiful golden color. Short lived head and minimal lacing.
There's alot of dank on the nose. Some ripe pineapple, lots of tangerine, cannabis, and some grapefruit as well.
Taste follows with tropical, citrus and then pine and grapefruit rind bitters.
Nice underlying honey malts but drinks clean and refreshing as hell for a warming 8.5%. Fits the mold for the So Cal IPA. It's drying on the finish with good lasting carbonation that keeps the tongue lively. It doesn't have anything common with a hazy NE IPA which I'm digging. This is surprisingly very good. The body is Med/light.
Def a repeat buy if they have more. Makes me feel like I'm on the West Coast. Good beer. Cheers![IMG]

(Standard disclaimer: No review posted yet, as I'm still working out the numbers.)

Ruse Brewing Dead Magic Belgian Style White Ale
16-ounce can purchased at John's Marketplace. Date stamp reads "05/03/23". Poured in a bulbous John's-branded pint glass.

    Look:
Translucent yellow-gold, capped with a tall head of fluffy white foam. The foam coats the inside of the glass and leaves shapes like a map of another world.

    Smell:
Brightly phenolic and spicy. Ripe banana, warm bread, orange blossom honey, coriander, a hint of freshly ground pepper. Gentle sweetness rounds things out.

    Taste:
Spicy! Cloves lead the way on top of a base of soft, chewy, bready goodness. Unobtrusive sweetness follows, along with notes of candied orange slices, orange zest, coriander, peppercorns, and banana bread. The spices leave the tongue tingling, and fade like echoes on the long, malty, orange-scented finish.

    Feel:
Medium-light-bodied with frothy, finely-textured carbonation. Spices leave a mellow warmth.

    Overall:
Ruse is perhaps best known for their excellent IPAs, but I am happy to find that they make a hell of a witbier too. Dead Magic is chewy, spicy, and satisfying. Perhaps a bit hearty for a summer quencher, but pretty awesome after a bike ride on a bright and breezy PNW spring afternoon.

Sky Dance Brewery Do or Dye Quadruple IPA, 10.6% ABV; 4.15 overall

With Strata, Nectarun, Mosaic & Citra Hops

Pours a hazed gold with a pinky of cream colored head. Average-ish head retention & lacing

S: Some tropical fruits, nothing really stands out, really the main thing holding this beer back

T: Guava, papaya, sweet orange, plus dryness & nectarine up front. Pineapple comes to the fore as this beer warms up, plenty of guava & nectarine, plus dryness as this beer warms up. Finishes with plenty of pineapple, some mango, papaya & guava

MF: Medium body, low carbonation, some acidity

Tons of tropical goodness here, ABV is well hidden. Another awesome IPA from this OKC brewery

Last evening I had a draft ‘German Pilsner’ at the Von C Brewery:

    “VOmnus Pils Pilsner - German

    5.2% ABV Norristown, PA

Brewed in collaboration with our good friends at Omnus Brewing Company, this German Pils inspired hoppy lager features multiple large kettle additions of Simcoe hops.”

I am a fan of Simcoe hops when used to brew APAs and IPAs. I was quite a bit conflicted while drinking this beer. Part of me enjoyed it but there was another part of me that…

You might want to try this beer. Maybe it is more in your ‘sweet spot’ than mine?

    Cheers!

16oz can served in a curvy Fremont glass. If there's a date, I don't see it.

Pours clear golden with a big, stiff head that collapses over a few minutes and leaves big chunky lacing and a crinkly looking island in the middle. Looks pretty carbonated. Smell is grass and lemon with just a bit of funk.

Taste is bitter with a strong grassy vein, has a bit of a grainy flavor, lemon rind. Ghostly shadows of honeysuckle sweetness.

Mouthfeel is very dry, light, clean. Overall, really nice.

I know exactly what you mean and as I work my way through this beer I like it but yet simultaneously a little conflicted about it also which for me makes for a good beer, as I want to try it again to explore it further. I'm into it, though, and the blend of old-school and new-school hops is interesting.
