hey, Ive still got plenty of west coast beers and some mysteries to unveil with the help of some meddling kids I hope! Simply trying to unearth my cellar and not let stuff sit too long down there! Although I guess I do need stuff for #cellaruary 2024

Happy Sunday. A bit of a recap from last night, me and Julia went to a bonfire with one of my best friends inviting me by proxy. So some colleague mingling with people our age was glorious. Met a lot of really cool people. The host had an amazing Rottweiler named Sasha, and she was the most obedient dog I've seen. German breeds are so intelligent, so I was able to geek out about dogs a bit with them, even though I am a cat person

Being as I was an outsider to the friends group, I wanted to introduce myself with a good toast. They could appreciate it, and I was able to explain the different flavors and how beer styles are categorized. there is a BJCP app on my phone . I have probably had this in my closet since 2012, they were all over SE MI stores when I started living there. Still trying to clear out all that old beer in the pantry now, so I am super generous with sharing these now! It was amazingly smooth and not cloying. A lot more molasses and licorice now after the melanoidin reactions of 15 years in a warm closet. Still plenty of carbonation! 4.5

The Pulled Pork was amazing, and the Costco cole slaw was also my shit. I like creamier kinds, over vinegary lol

Today Julia tried a new recipe similar to sausage tortellini I love; but this is Sauteed broccoli, mushrooms, garlic, olive oil, and over farfalle pasta. The texture of the vegetables was super soft. Perfect balance of flavors.

This was from a BIF a while ago from @FBarber . Dovetail Vienna Style Lager. This was impressive. A bit of a gusher, but not bad. Its been in my fridge the whole time. Aromas of biscuit, grains, herbal, grass, pepper, and pear/apple fruitiness. Muted aromas. Taste comes in great with cracker, biscuit, toast, light caramel/roast, citrus rind, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grassy hops. Medium pine/rind/herbal bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light to medium body, and fairly crisp/clean/refreshing finish. Balanced bready malt and sticky/resinous hop mouthfeel. Very clean lager flavors. Feels a little too bitter/aggressive on hop character, and a bit astringent at times, but otherwise a nice clean Vienna malt showcase with earthy noble hop character. 3.96

PS, today I found out Steg is a Bombay cat breed! What with his pancreatitis and GI issues, and he is always needy, yelly, and walks like a panther. but also incredibly calm and well mannered.

You don't need to worry because I had included that in my overall as a bump up to 4.5. I realize time on hops usually leads to astringency. I have had a few hazy IPAs I sat on for way too long too. :ok_hand: I have seen a lot of consistency with that brewery, and I can assure you that me and Julia will make a trek there at some point. In fact, I believe there are direct flights to O'Hare from Greensboro, because when we flew out to see @RaulMondesi it was the connector flight hub :heavymetal:

I'm a big fan of cannolis, so I would probably find that irresistible, were I to stumble across it in the wild.

One last thought for Later Night NBS.
Inhale X-Hill from Brewery X & Tarantula Hill Brewing.
16 oz can. Stamped "High On Life 5/31/23.
This one looked pretty good. Straw to gold in color. Bountiful head with decent retention. Scattered lacing.
Nose is herbal, grassy, with a hint of pine.
Flavor follows suit, but is on the subdued side, as is the mouthfeel. A tad thin, good carbonation. and finishes a bit dry and bitter.
Overall, price point makes this a bit more tempting, $2.17 at Trader Joe's.

EDIT: Was midway through posting this and dozed off on the couch. Otherwise, y'all would've seen it around 4hrs ago.
    Evening, all.

It's a one-and-done NBW for me. I developed a head cold middle of last week, and then did some pet sitting for friends up the hill from me, so this is the first day I felt able to review a beer.

Courtesy of @russpowell and his 2nd BIF box to me, this was from Social Project, and purports to be a triple hazy IPA, brood with Citra incognito, Ella, and Sapphire hops. I was under the impression that the frontier where double and triple ipas meet was located around 10 % +.

Nice citrusy and surprisingly bitter hazy IPA, with no hint of the high alcohol contained within.
