Well this is something. Minimal foam, sable body. The flavor is sweet malt with some fruit and cocoa flavors. The labels it was aged in Templeton Rye Whiskey barrels and bottled in 2021, so it's at least 18 months old. 15.3% and it's barely noticeable.

Might have to get my mule to bring a few more across the Delaware.

@Luscious_Malfoy started talking about traveling to central Wisconsin, then I started craving this masterpiece. @Uberdachen, I have to agree with @thebeers. I believe this is the best edition of the recent Central Waters Brewing BA barleywine release.

Enjoy. I’ve got one left, and I’m gonna try to wait until it gets cold out to imbibe. :beers:

How cheap is this stuff again? Never mind, don't tell me. Just glad I got one of each from this year's release in a trade.

Damn this is good, really outshines the one year version which has long been a favorite. Leather, stone fruits, hints of chocolate, and more in a well aged bruiser of an all-American barleywine. Hope you people with easy access know how fortunate you are. @Uberdachen @GreenBayBA you lucky sons a guns...

Sipping on a barleywine from Alberta tonight. Olde Deuteronomy from Alley Cat Brewing. 10.3% ABV and bottled in 2017.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a murky brown with a solid amount of tan head. The lacing is significant. Smell isn't overly strong - dark fruit is dominant. Cherry, blackberry. A bit of honey, and some toffee. Taste is fantastic. Fruity, a bit bitter, malty, and some really nice caramel notes. Mouthfeel is super nice and creamy. Lovely aftertaste with a floral note mixed with toffee.

Nice. Reminds me of the second most recent one I opened three years ago; magical. I have high hopes for my next one, already in fridge, hoping to find it is more like your excellent experience here than my bad one two weeks ago. Fingers crossed.

Man, I must have been exhausted last night. Reviewed the Olde Deuteronomy but then somehow copied the wrong review over to this thread. Correct now! It was great!

Unfortunately, I am traveling until the middle of July. Mostly up in Canada! Please feel free to open your bottle and I'll open mine when I return!

Looks like Bwizzle day 2023 is coming up soon at Jackie O's, can't wait to see the list! Last year they had an amazing selection and this was among the best.

Not as sweet as the bourbon barrel variety, I like this rye a bit more. Brown sugar, raisins, candied nuts, rye that is not shy, and on and on...loving this on the porch watching it rain for the first time in a long time.

2011 Old Guardian—hops have probably faded somewhat but this is still pretty solid.

    @ZebulonXZogg
It surprises me given you are right down the road from Bell's. I have found the 2020 edition in the fall of 2021 and 2022 but see my Total Wine in Greenville, SC is now out of stock. Maybe look for it in the fall months per the September 2020 bottling date.
    Cheers!

Skeleton Crew from Eighty-eight Brewing in Calgary. A fig newton barleywine. Comes in at 10.8% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours reddish brown with little head. Nose is full of toffee, figs, plums, slight citrus, honey. The taste is super interesting. Burnt toffee, malts, leather, citrus peel, plums, peaches, apple. Very nice.

Trainwreck from Phillips Brewing in Victoria. American barleywine.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a murky orange with a thin layer of off-white head. The nose is great - rich toffee, apricots, raisins, and a nice earthy note. The taste largely follows the nose. Toffee, leather, a floral note, earth, wood, citrus peel, and tons of malts. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and has a nice toffee aftertaste. Great beer.
