    Rare earth pilsner.
...murky light amber with a lasting thin white head.
...just below average carbonation with about a medium body yet oddly feels a bit thick and chewy. I know, doesn't make sense, thats why I don't write reviews for a living.
...aroma is dry, very yeasty crusty bread backed up with some malt. Floral earthy buckwheat honey is prominent as well.
...taste has a very mild sticky sweetness that coats the tongue. Buckwheat honey, cereal and bread is there as well.
...overall this is exceptionally good, caters to everything I find enjoyable in a beer[IMG]

A great day indeed, we have been spoiled with a beautiful spring in our state so far too which always helps...as far as the beer I would recommend it if you come across it, it is like a well made maibock slightly crossed with some pilsner like qualities, at least that's how I experienced it :beers:

I've got another from deep in the cave...

Allagash Farm to Face, bottled on June 6, 2016.

The pour is a deep gold, a bit of head initially the leaves a nice ring and some islands.

For an 8 year old beer, there is no smell of oxidation. It's got a mild Allagash wild funk, sweet cracker, green apple, and some peach.

The taste is predominatly wild ale initially, but the peach comes in a bit jam-like after a few sips. Apple is certainly present. A little mineral saltiness is a bit of a surprise. Nice oakiness, moderately funky. There's a Graham cracker-like malt that lends some sweetness.

Feel is light and amazingly bright for the age. The tartness is significant but not aggressive - has fruit acidity and a sharper tartness I associate with the process. Fairly dry finish, lively yet not overcarbonated.

Well, another one I wish I'd had fresh(er), but I think the main impact of time here has been a melding of flavors, maybe less peach impact. It's still very good, and as is I'd still say 4.3 or so. I think I can give it a valid review, duly noting that this is an aged bottle.

    Good evening NBW
Not my normal style, but stealth reviewing a can from a four pack purchased yesterday at Taxman Fortville. I can't resist Centennial hops.
    Hop Audit: Centennial
12oz canned 03/24/23 (nearly 3 months ago) and reviewed straight from the can at less than fridge temp, 6% ABV 50 IBU. The aroma is mild with pine and citrus. The taste is big Centennial pine and citrus with a moderate bitterness. Hints of the yeast come through with black pepper and mild funk. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good Belgian (farmhouse per Taxman) IPA.

    Cheers all!

I had a Tricerahops not too long ago for the first time in probably close to a decade and I enjoyed it significantly more than I remembered enjoying it back in the day. Whenever that happens, I always wonder what the mix is to lead to that difference in experience: better batch? updated recipe? evolved palate? changing preferences? situational context? is this the real life? is this just fantasy?

I'm sure it's some combination of several if not all of the above, but it's a simple question that somehow never fails to intrigue me and stress me out a little bit.

    The castle dunkel
    ...mahogany brownish red appearance
...slightly light body with about average carbonation.
...aroma is malt, brown sugar, dark doughy bread with a little grain and cereal.
...taste has some very mild sweetness, some hop bitterness that builds in the aftertaste. Malt and honey that coats the mouth.
....overall a really decent attempt at the style that I thoroughly enjoyed [IMG]

    From a can.
The pour on this beer is very clear and golden in color. Lots of carbonation creates a 2 finger white head. The retention is decent, and I like the lacing on the glass.
Aroma has some lemon notes, but there's also a slightly off putting skunky aroma that I am not digging.
Taste. The skunk sure as heck doesn't show up in the flavor. Decent hint of lemon is backed up by a nice malt bill. Grainy biscuit flavor here. Slight earthy flavor is way in the background.
    Light crisp body. Bubbly feeling.
Easy drinking, and on a hot sunny day, these would go down way too easy.

    Be back later for more

    Greetings, New Beer People!

Getting a bit of a late New Beer start today, but at least all the errands are done. Now the wife and I are enjoying beers on the porch while watching the weather turn from sunny to overcast. Welcome to spring in the NW: the season of great beauty and prominent mood swings.

(Standard disclaimer: No review posted yet, as I'm still working out the numbers.)

    Via Stratavista Pale Ale
16-ounce can purchased at John's Marketplace. Date stamp reads "MAGNIFICENT 05/01/23". Enjoyed in an English tulip-style half-pint glass.

    Look:
Bright gold and completely clear, with a dense and somewhat rocky head of snowy white foam. The head condenses to a skin on the surface and a hefty ring around the edges. Copious and superb lacing.

    Smell:
Very fruit-forward! A mouth-watering combination of peaches, grapefruit, mango, Red Vines, canned pears, and a splash of Hawaiian Punch. There are also subtle but zesty herbal notes of oregano and green tea.

    Taste:
The nose zigs, the flavor zags. Softly toasty malt leads the way, wrapped in a gauzy cloud of muddled fruit with a touch of orange honey. The flavor isn't as inviting as the nose. Good bitterness rises up in the middle, starting off floral/herbal before turning towards orange peel and grapefruit pith in the end. The drying finish is malty with a dusting of lemon/lime SweeTarts.

    Feel:
Light-medium body, slightly rounded, with snappy carbonation. Quenching, with fine drinkability.

    Overall:
Via Stratavista smells so good that the flavor ends up being something of a letdown. The nose is fresh and lively, but the flavor is muddled and kind of dull. That said, it finishes well, with good citrus character and respectable bitterness. Would drink again. If you see it, try it.

    Dock street barracuda
    ...cloudy pink grapefruit appearance
...medium light carbonation with a just below average body.
...aroma is raspberry puree, sour and funk, and fresh raspberry.
...taste is definitely tart and sour upfront. Raspberry jam with some fresh raspberry..
...overall its a very well done beer but you have to be prepared for the sourness[IMG]

    Bohemian-Style Pilsner by Goldfinger

Thanks to FBarber for sending me this solid take on the style.

Amber tinged gold in color. Fluffy white head, generously displays 3 fingers of cap. Settles down to a pretty solid 1/2 inch. Good retention with some scattered clumpy lacing. She's pretty.
Doughy bread, mild peppery/herbal hops, hints of corn, and an ever so slight toasted grain note.
Flavor is a smooth ride of subtle malt sweetness tamed by a gentle handed hop presence. The grains follow the nose, doughy, a bit toasty at times, and again a hint of corn (maybe dactyl). The hops provide a nice balance. And balance is the word. Mildly herbal, spicy, and closing things out with a polite, dry bitterness.
Mouthfeel is light, with good carbonation, and a smooth "minerally" feel.
Overall, I think this hits the style well.

My sister lives in Eugene so I used to stock up on this and bring home a case of bombers to pass out to friends (pre-bistro days). I loved this beer, but like you, I have not had it in many a moon. I must give it another shake.

Barreled Souls - Dark Matter. 11M 15D in Barton Bourbon Barrels. 14.2%. @sulldaddy sent it to me in NBS BIF #17.

500ml bottle served in a pair of WABL sample glasses. Bottle date 03/31/2022, bottle number 769/840. Has the skimpiest wax dip I've ever seen, barely covers the metal cap.

Pours black, super thick; little head, but what forms sticks around. Seems to have a little active carbonation. Smell is very boozy, woody, burnt toffee and vanilla.

Taste is chocolate and sweetness, vanilla, molasses a little, sticky toffee pudding. Tiny bit of barrel char seems to lurk in the background. Not sure exactly what is balancing out the sweetness, but it's not over sweet. This tastes really good. Like, exceptionally good.

Mouthfeel is thick and chewy without being sticky or cloying. This is an excellent beer.

Another new beer to me this weekend and once again courtesy of @snaotheus and the NBW BIF#17 shenanigans. Thank you !
This is Everybody's Brewing out of White Salmon, Washington. This is a bourbon barrel aged impy stout at 10.5% ABV.

    onto my review:
I am sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into a snifter. Date stamp is 12062022. Which I assume is the canned on date. label agrees with a 2022 vintage tag.
The beer pours a black coffee color with no light passing through my glass. A dense creamy tan head foams up about 1 cm and fades to a sturdy surface covering that sticks around for the entire tasting. Very dense lattice on the sips and swirls throughout the tasting too.
Aroma is roasted malts and dark chocolate and a little bit of a tobacco note too. Decent amount of bourbon scent here too, but not boozy, more sweet bourbon. No hop character at this point.
First sip reveals a medium body with fairly sharp carbonation and a smooth texture. Maybe a little stickiness on my palate after each swallow.
Flavor is similar to the nose, with roasted malt notes, dark chocolate, a bit of charred wood and a good amount of sweet bourbon. Finish actually dries out and is never warming or boozy. No real hop note on this front either. This is a bit of an olde school fairly straightforward BBA Impy Stout. Glad to have tried it

    4.25 in the BA DB

Welcome to New Beer Sunday #956! Been looking forward to this one upon receiving from Micah, along with the others that can be cellared and best enjoyed in cooler Fall weather. Today a special beer from a special Wisconsin Brewery, in one of my favorite styles.

    New Glarus 30th Anniversary Quadruple

    Can Notes:
Received mid May in a BA trade with @GreenBayBA , refrigerated until opening today. Thumbprint series, 12 oz can with a code H113 1249R, which I take to mean pull in August 11, 2023. This was released April 7, 2023 per social media.

Brewing for our Wisconsin friends since 1993 deserves celebration! This Belgian Quad is a hearty combination of Czech, German and American malted barley. Rich luxurious raisin, vanilla, dried fruit and dark chocolate notes pervade. New Glarus Estate and German Diamant hops champion subtle notes of cinnamon and clove. Belgian dark candy sugar pushes the original gravity to 24 degrees Plato. Be warned Dan's balanced artistry conceals a 10.5% ABV. This is a voluminous brew ready to be savored tonight or laid down to celebrate a future occasion.

The Best is yet to be. Daniel & Deborah Carey

Appearance: Single controlled pour into a chalice. Dark copper bronze base, creamy rich head lingers for a few minute before leaving a fine bubble cover over the base and fine lacing sustained throughout. Heavy sustained carbonation for the first several minutes. 4.25

Aroma: Nice clove leads, banana, cinnamon, raisins, dates, plum, all there as it should be, drawing me in. 4.5

    Taste:
Consistent with aroma, very sweet first sip so let it warm a bit with much success. Brown sugar, clove and banana all come together wonderfully, with raisins and dates adding to the hue. 4.5

    Mouthfeel:
Sustained gentle carbonation complements the creamy rich medium plus body. Very nice balance at proper temperature, worth the wait, drinks easy at first, but shows assertiveness midway in. Clove banana lingers joyously on the finish. 4.5

    Overall:
One of the best domestic quads I can recall, though not surprising as Dan is a great brewer. Wish I would have tried this in Wisconsin to bring a four pack or two home, it's that good. Thank you Micah for your excellent offering, highly recommend, and really hope this one returns down the road so I can stock up!!! 4.5

Hope you all have a great Sunday to wrap up your weekend, and all the best to the BA Fathers celebrating today!
