I sometimes ask for Barleywines in boxes i trade for cuz wife USED to love them, but as with the Imperial Stout scene most BWines are simple syrup butt juice that become undrinkable after a couple of sips.
I present the one that withstands all of the current hype boi syrup trends :

On tap at Penrose. Holy jeez again does this beer blow me away every time I have it. Talked to the bartender and she said since it was technically a colab they won't ever make it again. So sad. I hope they keep up the genius of BABWs for other BWs in the future.

Having a unique barleywine from @Beersnake1 tonight, thanks Tim! This is from the Netherlands and was apparently aged in vino naranja, Spanish orange wine, barrels. I've never heard of it, but it's white wine macerated with orange peel.

Sweet and unique, this comes together really well. The alcohol is very well masked, tasted blind I doubt that I would have identified this as barrel aged. There is a vague vinous quality up front that is quickly brushed aside by sugary notes of tea, citrus, raisins, and caramel. The sugar lingers into the finish with a bit of bitter pine and what could be a woody note. I'm liking this a lot!

Totally agree Tomas @Resistance88. The 2020 edition is drinking so damn good. I hate to say this being in Sierra Nevada's backyard, but this is my favorite non-BA B-Wine. Glad i still have some of these left!
    Cheers!

Central Waters Barleywine Ale, an American Barleywine...this is a 2017. This reminds me of Bell's Third coast or a 10 yr old Big foot with faded hops...it's a little sweet...a little hoppy and a little boozy. Its a triple threat. What a fabulous concoction

I'll say it for the fifth or sixth time in these threads, I'm so sad they stopped distributing barleywine to PA:worried:

I appreciate barley. My mother would drink copious amounts of Benadryl and go into the fields harvesting grain like a dancer in her haze. I would sit chained to a willow forced to do nothing but watch her drink more Benadryl, because of her gluten allergy. When the barley was all stacked up she would boil it down and then eat it. She wasn't very good at cooking and didn't know how to make barleywine. At night she let me drink from the barrel of Yellowtail Pink Muscato, which was our only water source. I think Straightjacket from Revolution is the best lowkey.

It's Bwizzle day at Jackie O's! They added four more barleywines to the online store bringing the total currently available to 11! @thebeers they ship to OH, VA, DC, AK, KY, and PA.

Just placed my order, a late Father's day gift to myself. Most looking forward to a new batch of Endolith, Iron Sharpens Iron dopplesticke altbier, and a collaboration with Pelican called Mother of All Bricks. Pretty sure this is a tribute to Shaq at the free throw line.

    Can't wait!!

I did order one, but I have some qualms about it. Hope they used a light touch with the cinnamon and vanilla.

Another from the incomparable @FBarber thanks for this gem! 750ml of 16% b-wine, this will be kicking my keister all weekend... Char No. 4, a collaboration from Whiskey Hill brewing and Butcherstown brewing, neither are familiar to me.

Damn, this is one big brazen beast of a barleywine! I've never tasted anything like this one.

It doesn't pour with much of a head, but the body is wonderfully leggy and lip smackingly sticky. I get a strong black walnut note, deeply roasted and liberally dusted with brown sugar. I also taste faint raisin and cherry, plus a big dose of dark buckwheat honey. It took me most of the glass to put words to that last descriptor. The struggle was driving me nuts, it is such a familiar flavor and a wonderfully integral part of this beer and I just could not come up with it! I can't say I've ever noted a specific type of honey in a review before so that's pretty cool to me.

The barrels are NOT shy, tons smooth brown booze, plenty of charred oak, and woody vanilla. This just comes together magnificently, a great drink that was a helluva lot of review!

First time stumbling across this one BA. Knowing the caliber of this brewery expectations are high.

So I am inclined to say this leans more towards an English in style. The nose is a bit muted for me yet still showcasing some fallen orchard fruit, browned biscuit, toffee, dried tea leaf and a touch of floral honey. The flavors are malt forward with hops playing the supporting role. Dark pitted fruit - plum and dark cherry, spiced toffee, biscuit and that floral like honey quality. I get lesser notes of cedar wood, tea leaf, and citrus bitters. The real beauty of this brew lies in the lush creamy mouthfeel and overall balance/drinkability. There is literally no sign of any harsh alcohol burn or anything falling out of sorts. Kinda similar to an aged SN Bigfoot or maybe Great Divide's Old Ruffian.

As a straight up no frills B-Wine this one is well executed. I wish I had more access tbh. That said and hate to be the guy to say it here ...I would also actually love to experience a BA treatment of this :anguished:
