A 50/50 blend of two of the best. Maybe a drop more Third Coast to qualify for this thread.
Had to try it, but not exactly the sum of its parts. Smell is fantastic though, and it is growing on me as it warms (and disappears).

I had similar experience with Bigfoot and Narwhal once, pretty good but probably won't do it again.

This one was oddly filled much lower than the other 3 bottles. Wouldn’t you know it, it tastes the most bland. Still have one left and haven’t seen it on the shelves in months

A huge thanks to @DIM for this one! Small Batch #02 from Goose Island. A wheatwine aged for two years in bourbon barrels. Comes in at 15.5% ABV!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours very dark brown, with little head. The nose is phenomenal. Lots of bourbon barrel, tons of sweet toffee, slight molasses, plums, and raisins. Just lovely.

The taste is big and bold. Sticky toffee screams out from this one! Definitely some strong bourbon notes - vanilla and some oak. Molasses, raisins, honey, figs, and a hint of port. This is just so rich and flavorful. Might be the best wheatwine that I have tried. Not overly sweet, which has happened a few times with wheatwines for me.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, but nice and sticky and chewy. The aftertaste is full of sweet toffee. The ABV is not noticeable at all. Dangerous!

Thanks so much for this treat, Dan!

How does it compare to the 2019 and 2018 bourbon county wheatwine, if you can?

Oh man, I wish I could remember that far into the past! I have tried too many wheatwines since those, which makes it really hard to compare. Looking back, I will say that the bourbon county wheatwine was pretty hot. In comparison, the ABV on this really isn't detectable. That's probably the main difference here.

Glad you liked that one Tim! I'm with you on maybe the best wheatwine I've had. I got one from @FBarber some time ago then lucked into a chance to buy a few more at a pretty good price.

I thought of you today, we were out shark tooth hunting again. The great white ancestor in the middle is easily out biggest one yet at around 2 inches, the kids are super excited. And the parents are too! Out trying again tomorrow...

Hot dang, that's a great collection! Do you know the species of that middle tooth?

I tried them relatively close together and this was a bit richer and a bit boozier. Better but not by leaps and bounds.

Best guess is narrow white shark, Carcharodon hastalis. They lived between 1 and 30 million years ago and could get up to 8 meters long!

Sticky Mousetrap B.A. from Frontaal in the Netherlands. Barleywine aged in both bourbon and scotch barrels (not sure what kind!). Comes in at 12% ABV.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours very dark brown with minimal head. The nose is sweet maple and toffee candy. Prunes and slight citrus peel as well.

The taste is really interesting. Getting some roasted malts, tobacco, peat smoke, coffee grounds, and burnt toffee. Some bready malts, along with honey and almonds. A hint of maple comes through as well. I'm not sure what the scotch barrels were, but I sense that they were peated scotch barrels.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is quite bitter - like charred wood and slight grapefruit peel. Very interesting barleywine! Not my favorite, but glad I got to try it.

I assume they were both mid tier based on lack of words:sunglasses:

The 2013 was the unanimous choice amongst five of us who split the beers. It was more complex. The flavors stood out more.
