When exploring a cold case full of beer at the store, many unknown, I like a quick way to see what others may have said about it.

Scan the barcode on a bottle/can to go directly to the listing on BA, so I can check ratings, add to wants/gots, review...

@Todd, these are my thoughts and I appreciate you asking for thoughtful feedback.
Yes to a BA App - that would make it a lot easier than signing into the website. It's a little clunky/outdated (in my opinion) to sign in and rate beers.

Untapped/integration would be great - however I can only imagine it being a challenge to work with them to integrate. I think it's worth exploring though. Would be great to be able to just share untapped check-in/review/rating on beer advocate. If that isn't possible - can you tag beer advocate - if you could, then users can easily import the tags/check-ins.

Ultimately - two apps feels like overkill - sometimes it's hard enough to get everything into untapped - never mind a second app. One other suggestion for a potential BA app - have a barcode where you can scan the beer - ( we have this on our Cellar Tracker app for our wine collection...yes, we drink a lot!) - that may be another way to easily get people to track/check-in. Ultimately -the easier you make it, the more apt you are to have people use it.

Also happy to test it out if you want to include us in the Beta test.

My top ask by far is great support for places/discovery. I travel a lot for work and unless I have the time to come on here and do a bunch of research cross-referencing with google maps, my only other way to figure out where is good to go is to pop into the regional forum and ask for recommendations. Right now untappd is my go-to for venue discovery, even if they didn't often have menus and what's been checked in listed, it can easily give me what's nearby and generally give me some low-effort recommendations.

Most ideal world would be something where locals in an area could help curate on top of the normal places functionality + mapping + location. I know we have threads off and on, especially for larger areas, but allowing some select group of locals to have a dedicated spot to curate more systematically would be outstanding. Being able to do checkins at places and see where BA folks go (no just review) might have some value, though maybe not enough relative to effort.

Other things on the go that would be helpful is the ability to upload photos more seamlessly and ability to do things like reviewing venues/beers on the go

Maybe I am not in a majority but I think the web-based BA works just fine on my phone. About 90% of my site time is on the phone, including reviews. I don't get much use out of UnTappd at all since I rely a lot on descriptions and reviews which UnTappd lacks, IMHO. Maybe I haven't given UnTappd a fair shake, but I kinda don't "get it". We're not the "here we are and this is what we're drinking" type anyway or where's my virtual badge for having a new style. I know we had a couple of people over for a tasting and they were all jazzed up about "checking in" from our house. Awww hell, maybe we're just no fun...

I seem to recall maybe in a previous app attempt that we could scan barcodes and it'd go right to the beer. That was pretty useful, but it's only a tad bit of typing to find a beer when you are holding the can/bottle in your hand and can enter the name. I guess scanning would be even easier, but again how does it get populated and stay up to date - seems a huge task. Beers are coming out faster than they can be added, especially with the flavor of the week breweries, so how'd anybody possibly keep up with what every nanobrewery is putting in cans?

Easier way to add photos for added beers and places would be fabulous! It took me a long time to figure out adding a picture to posts. As many times as I've read how to do it, I'm still clueless on how to include a picture when adding places/beers.

Nearby - now that would be handy assuming we're all on the stick and adding new places as good little BAs should. I use the places listings a lot and plowing through the entire listings in an area to find what breweries are near me does take a while. I'd be happy to let BA know where I am if it could then tell me what's around.

I'll be honest - while I don't completely understand how all these things work from the software side, I am not sure creating an app and whatever goes into maintaining it would be worth the effort vs. enhancing what we have already.

So many of these suggestions are really great and echo most of my needs. However, one of my biggest needs is to have some good, solid privacy options. I really like my online privacy and one of the reasons I don't use a lot of apps is because the privacy settings are abysmal. I end up finding that my details are exposed to all and sundry and get shoveled ads that are too tailored to me and are just plain creepy.

I would happily pay extra to have some stronger guarantees that you won't sell my data up the virtual river to anyone happy to pay for access to me. I am not as social as many might want me to be and while not a Luddite, I have given up on FB, Instagram and most other social media platforms because I don't feel a need to contribute to the data in their algorithms. I understand there really are no guarantees that I will give away some of my privacy, but it seems to me the EU has some stronger reassurances and if you followed the EU data privacy standards, it might be a bit more secure. Thanks for listening to my rant!

Would be nice if (assumign OnTapped is still under same umbrella) if
If the two services are going to be merged, I feel it is a MUST to have everything translate over to the new site. I second the scan the beer, for look up and entering new beers.

    This is the answer.

It all rolls up to a better directory for "places", so both mobile and desktop. It's the one and only area of BA I'd like to see improvement on. I try to use the feature a lot when traveling but I find the rigidness on towns/cities awkward. I want the tool to see where I am and in a map view show what's nearby, especially calling out what's highly rated, regardless if it's technically over a town line.

I would like to be able to rapidly check-in to a beer. As few clicks as possible.

It would also be good to be able to quickly search my own check-ins.

Beer Advocate doesn't have enough reviews. I joined mainly to add some just to help. The main thing for visitors to the site is to get reviews of breweries and their beers, to have an idea which ones to go to and which beers are best at each brew pub. If members could do their full reviews on location at the time besides at home on their desktops, there would be exponentially more reviews and more recent ones as well.

    Thanks for asking !
BA is not perfect, but it is close to what I need.
Two items a BA app could add to the overall platform.

First and foremost, I want easily to count repeats of a brew. I really want to know what I drink and repeats (and edited reviews) also are the most important data a brewer can have. I solved this problem over three years ago by Checking-in my repeats over at UnTappd.

Second... after I somehow downloaded UnTappd's app on to my phone, it became so easy to download photos that even a Luddite like me could do it quickly. And you know what? it is fun ! Commonly, I compose photos of my meal and beers I paired with it and get another chance to exercise my off-beat and, sometimes, off color humor. I know, you kids upload photos all the time on BA; but I'm pushing 70 fast and can't over-stretch my comfort zone.

Bottom-line for BA: don't change a thing for me. Satisfying the next generation is key.

Some great ideas here. I’d love to have a feature like on Untappd where you can see what a brewery, bar, or liquor store has available

So are you thinking a UT-complementary app,or a UT competitive app? I don't think you're going to beat UT at their own game, so a complementary approach would have a higher chance of success IMHO.
That having been said, you need to add useful functionality. My personal wish list centers around standing at a beer cooler with a 4-pack in hand, wondering if I've ever had it before and, if so, what I thought of it. OTOH, if I hadn't had it before, I'd be interested in what other BAs (and possibly UT) contributors thought.
It seems like a simple barcode scan could interact with my BA database and my UT database
to give me some useful point-of-purchasing and/or decision-making info. Absent that, I'll probably continue to use the BA interface.

I am old, but vaguely remember BA as an app at one time?
    - I would like for the app to document what and when I had the beer with a simple star rating, maybe a brief description?
    - Maybe a way to create smaller user groups within, to keep track?
    - If you can incorporate the label scan like Vivino, that is a win-win.
    - Same for a map or locater. I find Yelp clumsy?
    - I find Untapped to be pretty useless for the rating of a beer. It seems it only shows who is drinking it, and where? However, I am old and maybe I am not using it properly
