Compared to SP,Private Press and (insert any mid brewery) It's the same thing and in terms of quality right up there.
I usually wait till im at the taproom to try everything. Wish it was in 8oz bottles and maybe I'd buy more cuz Old Numbskull is great

Yeah, Old Numbskull is fantastic. I would definitely pay for a small pour so that I could test drive this batch before purchasing. It's hard to imagine what an American barleywine would be like in a sweet port barrel.

And I think we agree the price is just too high. I'll just sit over in the midwest drinking Rev and not breaking my bank. :sunglasses:

Not a barleywine, but part of the blend is from a wheatwine, so it seems to fit here. 10 years old and still amazing. Tons of sticky toffee, vanilla, bourbon, and dark fruit. Lovely.

Central Waters 4year barrel aged barleywine is just so freakin' great.

Hops are faded allowing caramel candies soaked in booze to absolutely shine. Not gonna parse, just enjoy. Probably my favorite BA American Barleywine to date.

Hey @Beersnake1 , while they weren't what we were hoping for we did find our first megalodon teeth! A worn down baby tooth and a broken one that would have maybe been 3" if whole. Still pretty cool though!

It's amazing how intact these CAN be after 10 million years or more. You could cut meat with the serrations on this snaggletooth fossil.

    Cheers Tim!

I’m swimming in a pool of jealousy right now!!! How amazing! It boggles my mind how many T. rex teeth can be found fully intact around Alberta.

Just did a quick search on Alberta fossil hunting, wow! Have you ever found any?? A find like that would give my kids a heart attack!

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Dinosaurs and the crazy animals of the Burgess Shale are the most common, but there are a bunch of others as well. I haven't personally collected any T. rex teeth, but I have lots of friends who have found them. We actually just visited the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta, which is arguably the best paleontology museum on the planet. So many great original fossils on display, including this intact Gorgosaurus in the death pose. Our youngest daughter is begging to do the week-long fossil collecting camp next summer (she is planning to be a paleontologist ). We'll see!

I called this beer cooked sugar water before. I don’t mean that as harsh as it sounds. Now that I’m having the last one, it’s grown on me a bit. Not something I would buy again though. Yeah, I know they call it a Scotch ale.

It makes me sad that I live near Fox Farm and still haven't made it out there for a barleywine. I actually have time this week to go, but they don't have any available!

There’s always next year — although they seem to change this one up annually, so maybe a locals trade is in order? I wouldn’t call this “can’t miss,” but it was very tasty.

A belated shout out to @sulldaddy for sending me this one. :beers:

I dont have any left from this year. But the barrels do change each vintage on Copestone.
Which is a beautiful English Barleywine.
Looks like release is usually Novemberish each year.
I make a point to get it each year. Ill stash a bottle for you this year, no worries at all!

It will be one-dimensional for sure Tomas @Resistance88 but likely not awful. Recently had a similar release from Olde Hickory Parallassein | Olde Hickory Brewery | BeerAdvocate and it was good, just wished it had some time in a bourbon barrel to give additional flavors and nuances.
    Cheers!

A couple weeks ago I enjoyed a 2010 Doggie Claws and it was excellent—great carbonation, balanced, complex flavor, overall a delicious beer—so I was hoping that this 2012 bottle would follow suit. Sadly, no. Totally flat, borderline undrinkable. Somehow I will muddle through. Cheers!

Sorry to hear. I agree with you on the 2010s, everyone I've had in recent years has been stellar.
