@M-Fox24 was an absolute pleasure meeting you as well and chatting. I always love running into Beeradvocate's and talking, especially those that appreciate a good lager and cask ale!

I believe you recommended the Common to me at Backbeat, delicious beer, thank you!

Perfect day for cask too with the cooler rainy weather. Hope to see you again soon.

Recent article with a bit more on the new direction (e.g. kegs & casks)
Perhaps they will implement SL new (impending) approach, as a way to convert & “grow cask ale visibility”

One handle at the brewpub. Let’s go for it.

    Revolution Avondale Best Bitter

Brewery Notes: $6 HH 20 oz cask pour at the brewpub. 5% ABV

The best in the neighborhood! Lightly toasted malt profile with underlying hints of caramel. Fruity notes contributed by the fermentation with English Ale Yeast. Earthy, herbal, hop notes from brewhouse and dry hop additions of UK Fuggle and Crystal.

Appearance: Copper pour, creamy rich head, prevalent carbonation, lacing clinging for dear life to the glass. 4.0

    Aroma:
    Faint bread, toffee, caramel. 3.5

    Taste:
Consistent with the aroma, bread, toffee, caramel. Getting some citrus and as I get to the second half. Wafer thin in terms of strength. 3.75

    Mouthfeel:
Faint bitting carbonation, medium full watery, very light and easy, well below the ABV. Dry and lightly bitter, hop impact felt and it’s nice, both linger with the bread flavor on the finish. 4.0

    Overall:
This is a good cask pour, enjoyed the hops to balance out the malt flavors. May order a second. 3.75

Bit surprised they are not Cask Marked in 2023, considering Steve is situated in IL. Conceivably, the May visit was a trial run (1 out of 2), where he also consumed their best bitter...

    Can you explain "cask marked"?

Revolution typically offers new cask pours each Friday, a mix of new releases or beers they typically serve on draft but brewed and cask conditioned for a weekend.

Marque Accreditation: Steve Hamburg is the US Director (Cask Marque Americas). Presumably, he will mark/pass Revolution at some point, since he is located in IL + seems to enjoy their bitter

Recent turnovers seemed suspicious; however, they might be valuable, for Cask (e.g. handling + quick rotation w/o a breather + # of running engines + …). They are looking to bring back the second engine with the third to follow suit. Albeit, that third step/engine depends on movement. Moreover, they are planning to take a more active – social platform – approach, as a way to appreciate & flip cask accordingly/properly

The above ale is an approach taken to accentuate the more pale/amber side, of mild. WE intentionally brewed this, as a way to kick off their engine installation –

Fortunate enough to have BRAF & NERAX in the vicinity; however, the Spile & Spigot Fest has an appealing aspect, which seems to have grown since the 2022 debut…hope to attend at some point

Acopon is celebrating their 6th anniversary on July 22nd...they are currently (have been) testing a practicality: firkin to crowler

    Northern English Brown Ale -

Extending the life of cask beer

    ---

Article also touches on the alternative systems used (mainly for kegs), the mechanics, and the specifications…condensed notes below with some unexplained – to be determined – elements:

    • “…the impact on cask was something of a surprise outcome, and they are ‘not entirely sure’ how the science works…the sort of chemical level or biological level is, for the time being, a bit of a mystery to us if I’m completely honest…”

The Beer Saver kit does indeed sound rather mysterious. I can sort of buy into the theory of disrupting the formation of a biofilm but how the electromagnetic pulses are mitigating oxidation is truly mysterious here.

    Cheers!

also seems confusing that something attached to just the beer lines could affect all of the beer in the cask vessel.

I've never heard of a place filling a growler from a beer engine. Assume this was just filled and capped? No special process to conserve carbonation?

"Within the system, we’re creating an electromagnetic saw tooth wave or sine wave. The sawtooth wave is a jagged multi frequency wave and the sine wave is the sort of the bell curve we are used to for music waves – a smooth up and down, peaks and troughs. This is what is travelling up and down the beer lines, it’s going down into the draught kegs and it’s going all the way up into the taps"

This is where Barratt steps in to state the following:

This is a rather denounced practice, and discouraged across the board per tainting the Cask apparatus; however, will occasionally entertain the idea (e.g. Spinnerstown Hotel), as the approach either meets or > BiB

Pubs in the U.K. sometimes do takeout cask beer but say to drink the same day. This was particularly common during the first Covid lockdowns.

Touched on this awhile back, and always appreciated Dave Liechty’s sentiment: “cask beer to go is usually garbage

Cask to-go damages the fresh/real aspect (i.e. it’s not a viable option, as that “one bad pint” rule is in effect). Nonetheless, there were several producers who took the time to reasonably approach ‘this’ via Downtime/COVID, which > BiB, Polypins, Jars…but still strayed, and never > an onsite draw

Fyne Ales, as discussed previously, is an example
