Brewers Notes: Eternity is a barrel-blended imperial milk stout brewed with chocolate, coffee, and maple syrup. Featuring 45% barrel-aged Truth blended with a base stout brewed with chocolate, coffee, lactose, and maple syrup, Eternity pours a dense fudgy color in the glass with a dark brown head and puts forth flavors and aromas of bourbon-chocolate maple chews, maple-bourbon hard candy, and rich syrup tones. While dense with flavor, Eternity maintains a drinkability that is rare in a beer with this level of flavor. It is everything good about a comfortable morning distilled into this lovely bottle. Keep it cold and savor it - it is special.

As our barrel program continues to bear fruit, we find a great deal of joy in offering you a beer such as Eternity, at scale, for all to enjoy. Following Tree of Life Blended, Spacetime Continuum, & Vanilla Bean Truth, Eternity is another wonderful addition to our immense line-up of beers that aim to be packed with flavor while maintaining a pleasing drinkability. It is intended to be enjoyed by the 12 oz glass to truly enjoy the full breadth of its complexity, nuance, and character. Drink now or age it in the refrigerator for up to two years.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA aged in Utopias Barrels

12oz bottle served in a small snulip. Bottle is dated D0773105911, which I have no idea how to interpret. Maybe it's the 77th day of 2023, which would be 18 March 2023, assuming my sub-par calendar skills are accurate? @FBarber gave it to me one fateful night in a Holiday Inn in Naperville, IL, possibly in exchange for certain other favors...

Anyway, it's murky, more amber than orange, looks thick, has a small head (thick ring and a bit of a dusting across the surface) that is sustained by a notable rate of active (but very fine) carbonation. Smell is orange peel and wood, something maybe in the raisin/date region seems to be in there.

Taste is tracking the aroma fairly well -- orange peel is turned down a bit, the already loud wood is even louder, that raisin/date stuff is even more noticeable. Bitterness manifests in both the wood and citrus rind zones, sweetness has some floral / honey notes. Booziness is noticeable in the flavor...

...but more so in the way it feels in my mouth -- like a quick astringent evaporation opening up my sinuses. It's fairly thick, a little on the chewy side, certainly appropriate for the weightiness of the beer.

It's been a long time since I had any 120 Minute, it's interesting to come back with a Utopias barrel aged version. I'm guessing the raisin/date stuff I was getting comes from the Utopias barrels -- the one time I tried Utopias, it had a strong sherry-like vibe to it that might turn in that direction.

It's going to be fun as it warms up.

Poured from a 16 ounce can into a Teku glass.

Look- Deep brown, opaque, medium brown creamy head, average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Blueberry, coffee, maple syrup, between weak and medium strength of scent.

Taste- Coffee, blueberry, toasted oats, slight maple syrup, mildly sweet, between weak and medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full body, average carbonation, highly creamy, high bitterness, mildly sweet.

Overall- Deep brown with average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was blueberry, coffee and maple syrup. Flavor was predominantly coffee with some notes of blueberry, toasted oats and maple syrup. Feel was highly creamy with body between medium and full. Overall an enjoyable experience, but the coffee flavor overpowered most of the other flavors leaving this beer fairly one dimensional.

Good afternoon, Weekenders! Surprisingly, I still had room for a second new beer after that massive first one - although it took me a while.

    Lawson's Kiwi IIPA

By no means a new beer to Lawson's, I happened across this one at a local store, and quite fresh. It seems they have added this to their Two Roads contract brewing lineup, at least occasionally. Consequently, I get to try it for the first time. :grinning:

This beer doesn't disappoint. It's Lawson's through and through. New Zealand hops? In a double IPA? Sure, but it's not some new-fangled 0 IBU murk bomb. It's balanced, with plenty of showing from the malt base and a lovely, understated bitterness.

The Nelson Sauvin doesn't particularly shine through too much, but I suspect this one can come across much danker at a different age. As it is, it's smooth and fruity, and if anything, the Pacific Jade is the more prominent hop expression.

    Just a lovely overall beer.

Poured from a 750mL bottle into my Unibroue tulip.

Bright, clear, pale straw/vanilla liquid supports a fat finger of dense ivory soft peaks. Cakey/sandy lacing; excellent retention.

Crisp malty aromatics with gentle earthy/spicy/herbal yeast and hop notes.

Wheat, lemon-lime, quince, and unripe plum on the palate. Low - mild bitterness. Tart with a hint of white wine vinegar and rock sugar. Faintly peppery, but not real funk. Finishes dry and zesty.

Light bodied, well carbonated, lightly tannic, and very refreshing.

A wonderful table beer to accompany a light lunch on a hot day.

Pours a slightly unfiltered rich golden color with a fluffy off white head that lingers, especially as a ring atop the body of the beer. Citrus notes, especially grapefruit, on the nose and a nice resiny pine note as well.

The grapefruit is forward on the taste, along with a bit of lemon, but there’s a big dollop of resiny pine that imparts a significant amount of bitterness at the back of the palate and lingers long after you finish each drink. Delicious stuff.

The mouthfeel is fairly dry, and this for
me is a definite “sit at the bar and drink a couple of pints” WCIPA that I enjoy so much. Really well done by Phase Three.

    Good afternoon denizens of NBW!
First up for me today is a dark lager, which have been really appealing to me.

Nocturnal, a Schwartzbier from Sonder Brewing in Ohio.
Poured coffee brown and looked black in the glass, topped by a beige head of dense foam that left sheets of lacing.
Aroma still not available for me, stupid Covid.
The taste is medium roasted malts and some toasted wheat bread with just a hint of hops to frame the flavors.
The feel is ideal, perfectly crushable.
OA, a very nice Schwartzbier that I am glad to have been able to try.

Close to the end, barely below room temp...surprisingly, it's crystal clear now. Wife just tasted it, she thinks it's really sweet. I'd say it's even boozier, and more wood, and most of the fruity notes are now hidden.

Brewers notes: Crushable, smooth and slightly cloudy. Whirlpool and dry hopped with eukanot and citra hops. Subtle citrus notes complement the smooth mouth feel. It's a smooth ride just like everyone's favorite cruiser.

On draft at the local food truck gathering , cans available too. Poured into a plastic cup, hazy golden liquid, one finger white foam cap, paid $8 for a draft pour

Aroma is orange citrus , melon

Taste is juicy orange citrus, melon

    Smooth , no hop bite

    Good beer, recommended

#2, I couldn’t make the Buckley launch party at Transient, but I did pickup the “vertical” package, which included 1-, 2-, and 3-year aged versions of Kentuckley.

This is the 3-year, and I think I’m going to tackle the 2-year on Monday. Please note that these are NOT little stouts.

    Let’s f*cking GOOOOO!!!!!

Pours thick, inky black with no way for any light to penetrate this beer, and there’s a minimal dark tan head that decides to flee the scene to allow the sniffing and tasting to proceed without interruption.

The features a nice amount of booze (shocker I know for a 3-year BA impy stout) that is oaky, with a lot of rich milk chocolate and maple notes as well, and maybe a smidge of roasty coffee. Salivating.

The milk chocolate, bourbon, and oak flavors are forward and truly delicious, with a surprising little stone fruit kiss joining the roasty coffee note at the back of the palate.

What is also surprising is the lack of booziness - this drinks really smooth, with the full, creamy mouthfeel masking all signs of alcohol. This is world class, IMHO.

Last week I reviewed on the NBW thread the Tucher Dunkle Hefe and loved it.

Now, I have the Tucher Helles Hefe Weizen. Again, I'm pretty sure I have had this before, but I don't have a review of it on this site, and I can't really remember the last time I had one. So here I go...

    5.2% ABV

Pours a little clearer than expected. With just a touch of haze (but that doesn't really matter much anyway), a golden/yellow color. An ever lasting airy white head forms. As that slowly recedes, light lace is left behind.
Aroma is banana esters, and a doughy/yeast aroma. Clove and spice. Simple, but spot on and enjoyable for the style.
Taste wise...oh, big banana esters up front, even some pear skins. Doughy banana bread, with spicy clove. A touch of some grains, a touch honey like sweetness. All around really enjoyable.
A light to medium body. Moderate carbonation, leads to this being ultra smooth. Very much moreish, and something I can down in big gulps.

Pretty much a spot on example of a Hefeweizen. I will be looking to get more of this soon. Well done, and very much recommended from me.

Overall score is 4.18, an easy A-

Thanks to @ChicagoJ for getting us started this weekend! It's Canada Day so a great night to celebrate! Perepllut from Blindman Brewing in Lacombe, Alberta. An American barleywine that comes in at 10.9% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with almost no head. Bubbles rising throughout. The nose is citrus peel, toffee candy, raisins, honey, and a touch of maple.

The taste is is really smooth. Malts, toffee, slight citrus, oak, honey, figs, and raisins. Really smooth, with almost no alcohol heat. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is a slight mix of bitter citrus peel, a touch of leather, and sweet toffee. Overall, a really nice American barleywine.

Sterling Pig Youse Thirsty? Summer Lager - A 5.6% new to me Vienna Lager from a local brewery I enjoy? Yes, please. Poured from a 12 oz can born on 05/22. Pours a slightly hazy amber color, nice head and carbonation. Smell is the typical VL and the taste follows the nose and it's crisp and clean and ends perfectly balanced. A solid beer and I could easily drink more of this and another nice Summer Lager to choose from. Budmo!

    Boulevard barrel aged quad
    ...an odd brownish red appearance
...light carbonation and it almost comes off thin at first but then there's a mild thickness that coats the mouth on the finish.
...aroma is malt with bourbon being there but it is almost more candy like. Wood, and what comes off like mixed spices but its very pleasant.
...taste does not stray too far from the aroma with it just coming close to being candy like. The high abv and spice add a bite that keeps it in check.

Well, our family wasn’t going to spring for a vacation to Hawaii, so my brother-in-law brought the islands in liquid form, in a way:

His friend was (at this point, I would assume) a club member at The Bruery’s outpost in DC, and we get this Aloha Friday offering via him, even if we’re drinking it a day late.

The beer fizzes away to a flat offering, and though the carbonation isn’t absent, it’s pretty low seven in the first sip.

The nose has a slightly acidic lean to it, something familiar enough, though I can’t say it’s from big Bruery beers, since it’s been quite a while since I’ve had one. There is a nutty dark chocolate aroma, but that tangy note dominates for me.

The taste has a less in-my-face tangy note, but it’s the first thing I note. My co-drinkers are finding this a smooth beer, and I can’t disagree. It’s near silky until the “afterfeel” that has a little bite. Dark chocolate is more subtle before the macadamia gains traction mid-taste. I might be imagining the toasted coconut quite late in the taste.

I will say, there’s a tropical vibe I’m feeling, be it from the marketing or the beer itself, but I am glad this beer made its way to us to share on this vacation.

    Cheers, all!

    Ommegang oak aged triple
...cloudy murky dark amber with a slight white but lasting head
....medium light effervescent carbonation with about a medium body.
....aroma isn't overpowering but the oak, wood definitely shows up. The tripel element shows up ,malt, sugar, alchohol.
...taste is heavy on the wood which dominates the flavor.
...overall I honestly think it was probably a very good tripel which got overtaken by the oak. Good but not sure I would seek it out again[IMG]
