Imperial Stout Appreciation Thread (2023)

Parabola 2022. Starting to wonder if I will receive a discount on a case! (Or a partial case, since I bought 4 of the last one in captivity at my local distributor).

 

Surly Brewing BA Darkness. 2023. There were some years I liked the non-BA version better. Not this year. The barrel-aging of this edition makes all the regular flavors, that only Darkness can conjure, really intense.

after dinner drink. split 3 ways with my dad and my brother. thanks to @REVZEB for this one! really enjoyed it. i’m a big chocolate fan (always have been), so this was right up my alley. perfect marriage of bourbon and chocolate. hope everyone is having a good night, enjoying an imperial stout (or two). cheers!

They’re gone here, too! I found 2 6 packs earlier this spring at my local distributor and scooped both of them up! I consumed the first 6 pack quickly, but hid away the second. This is the first one out of that second 6 pack!

 

I have plans with @Luscious_Malfoy for Labor Day weekend at Central Waters Brewing, but I feel like @REVZEB should join us.

I’ve recently expressed the opinion that my favorite Barrel Aged programs for “regular” beers are Revolution and Goose Island (cough, homer, cough) and that my favorite programs for barrel aged adjuncts are Bottle Logic and Cycle (Anchorage is up there for both). And while BL and C really dial up the additional flavors to their beers, I forgot that Prairie throws the most balanced parties. They can put multiple adjuncts in a beer and everybody plays together nicely with none of them overpowering the rest. That takes talent. Thankfully for this post, my last two beers were from Cycle and Prairie. Based on the adjuncts, I did not expect to rate either beer as high as I did, but they were fantastic. (First beer included food in the original photo but I cropped it out, that’s why it looks like it does)

 

Which location? I might already be up north actually so this might work!
