Will be in Door County for a long weekend later this month...never been there....been to GB many times though....curious if there are any can't miss beer or food related places to hit while there...thanks in advance for any help on this... I prefer German Lagers (and pretty much everything known to Germany and Eastern Europe as well), Hefeweizens, British ales, and American West Coast IPA's but willing to try anything other than American Kettle sours and pastry desert stouts.. Food wise nothing fancy...Pizza, Burgers, BBQ, etc.....
Sway Brewing + Blending They got a bakery AND tacos and I hear the beer is pretty good*. *a lot of mixed ferm stuff from Matt Sampson who did mixed ferm at Hacienda
Main Street Market in Egg Harbor has an excellent beer selection. Always stop in there to grab stuff. Door County Brewing Co. in Baileys Harbor is great. It's the same brewery as Hacienda - that their "experimental side". They have live music, outdoor seating, and food. It's one of my favorite places to have a beer. Also, not beer related, but park at Cave Point County Park and hike south into Whitefish Dunes State Park along Lake Michigan. It's one of my favorite places in the Country.
Starboard and Bridge Up are easy hits in Sturgeon Bay. Starboard sixpacks are around the peninsula, I don't believe Starboard cans. Shipwrecked Munich Helles might be your best lager option of the trip. I never made it to Peach Barn, but hopefully will this year. Titletown in Green Bay can make an excellent lager as well.
Totally blanked on Door County/Hacienda being in......Door County with Hacienda's big place in Milwaukee.
Do some hiking at The Ridges and hit the beach in Baileys Harbor before or after some beer and bbq at Door County Brewing/Hacienda. Great way to spend a few hours. My favorite town in Door County. Old Post office in Ephraim has a great fish boil. Hit the one that ends at sunset and enjoy the sunset from their patio or across the street at their beach. They had a few decent beers in cans last time we were there.
So everyone pretty covered everything, will say we went to peach barn once right when it opened and was a cute spot with chill porch beers. Would go back this summer. Wild tomato usually has some nice options, and the pizza is great. Sister bay also has the Al Johnson’s outdoor beer garden across the street For Green Bay we need @GreenBayBA
There is also One Barrel from Madison with a location in Egg Harbor. Ephriam has a beer garden too, Bad Moravian, but have not been there yet
I live right off of I-43, just south of the exit to Door County, WI. I just saw the new Central Waters Brewing release announcement for 7/22/23. Twenty Five Gold Label and Majenta Label. Someone needs to visit me, or I will drink the full allotment by myself.
I would second (or third) Door County Brewing Also either Wild Tomato location for pizza is great We have liked the perch fish fry at Sister Bay Bowl Twelve Eleven Wine bar in Sister bay (just outside) has some great California wines and a very nice outdoor space to relax and drink Highly recommend Mink River Basin in Ellison Bay for food and a very nice beer selection
Hügel Haus in Ellison Bay for German food and drafts. Trixie’s in Ephraim is more food & wine focused, but has a handful of good beer options too.
That Hügel Haus looks nice for German beer and food. I'm going to list it in my German-American beer and food places spreadsheet. Thanks for the lead.
We stayed within walking distance of Peach Barn last fall and I liked it a lot. Food was limited to whatever truck was there, though. Definitely more chill than Al Johnson's, which does have a nice selection. Door County Polka King porter is a big favorite, our friend with relatives in Fish Creek has a standing order to mule it for us. Add me to the list of endorsements for going there.
Went to Door County last weekend. Thanks for all of the recomendations! Really enjoyed Sway, Wild Tomato, and Hügel Haus. Peach Barn, Door County / Hacienda, and One Barrel were good. Cave Point County Park into the Whitefish Dunes State Park and Toft Point were the hiking highlights.
