Is their all-German pipeworks system sabotaging the product in the sacred name of Reinheitsgebot?

DDH King is tasting mediocre at best this batch. Felt the same with DDH Sue from a month or so ago. Guess this is just the new normal.

On a different note, grab a 4 pack of some fresh Pixel Density to try it and it gave me 2014 bottled Sue vibes, not in looks, but in flavor profile and mouthfeel. Really good stuff.

Ugh just bought a 4-pack for the weekend, really bummed to hear this. And paid $20.99 for the privilege...

@Wlexile you have me worried... this is one of the better batches of DDH King Sue I've tried. The last batch IMO was way too aggressive with massive hop burn. This one tastes like King Sue but a bit more "filled out" and hoppier, which is exactly what I expect an extra-hopped version of a beer to taste like. Goes down very smooth and tastes great. You freaked me out for no reason haha!

Hmmm, perhaps my taste buds have betrayed me lol.

I had the exact opposite experience where the last batch was fantastic, and this one was an aggressive hoppy mess.Wonder if you got a different batch? Did you grab yours in MN? Canning Date? To my knowledge there were 2 batches this time.

Will the sale link go live on the events page of their website or somewhere else? Curious because outside of the KBBS release I've never tried to land any of their online sales due to the dreaded no proxy.

Still available! Maybe packs aren’t the way to go anymore

No one likes packages. I think the problem here is basically $100 for two MDs. You could give the 12 oz Assassin a bigger proportion of cost, but end of the day this is too expensive. There are too many breweries that make quality stouts to spend ~$100 for two non-BA bottles.

Also, just my observation, but seems to me that all the love that pastry stouts used to get is fading. I personally find myself reverting back towards non-adjunct BA stouts.

Same. I’m also very over the maple beer thing personally. Maybe not KBBS but there aren’t many I’d bother with these days.

Maple is definitely too sweet for me these days. However I was cellar digging and found a bottle of 2017 CBS. It was quite good but also the maple was definitely more background than in your face.

Also not as excited about when there is like 3 or 4 different adjuncts. I still am a sucker for a good Vanilla or Coconut BA stout. Coffee used to be my go to but not so much anymore (still enjoy just not my fav anymore). I guess shows that tastes do change over time.

I also find myself gravitating towards BA barleywines much more. I have a much greater appreciation for them than before.

My brother posed a question to me as we're enjoying some Tree House brews after his trip out east. "Did we get the worse outcome with TG"? He went on to opine about how he rarely see's Mike in the brewery at all anymore or in the taproom talking new beers or ideas. The old school line up is all but been forgotten, Thresher, Zee, Sol, etc... He, my wife, and every other stout "geek" I know seems to be over their inflated package prices. That also seems to be the case in this forum as well. Especially with DLD back. Their once treasured and sought after IPA's now rot on the shelf's.

Compare this with TH, where my brother tells me with three visits he saw Nate there each time running the show, weather brewing, or selling/casing, or pouring. He's active in making new beers, not just collabs and another stout. People are still trying to crack the TH yeast code for homebrewing, with Nate encouraging that search with cool Youtube Videos. Sap still taste like an otherworldly beer, I cant remember the last time I thought that with a TG beer...

I just wish Mike would've left TG to make his own brewery. Or maybe I've always had it wrong with thinking Mike and Nate we're of similar capacity when it came to being a brew master, and Nate's in a league above Mike. Or maybe Clark just killed the dude interest in brewing, and turned him onto making money instead. But that did bring up another question for us, which brewery makes more money we wondered? TG with distro in 20ish states, give or take, or TH with there taproom only distro. IDK for sure if they dont send cans else where btw...

Anyways just some thoughts from two jaded TG dudes, one of which makes one of these post at least once a year...

Tree House is on another level and I'm not even a huge fan of NEIPA. Every time they ramped up production the quality of their haze never dropped, and Jesus is their production massive now. I can't believe how many cases they go through on-site every single day. It's insane how THE PEOPLE truly are their distributors.

But then their lagers...they're executing true to style, top notch lagers, which are enhanced on-site with their slow pour Lukrs, totally second to none outside of what few breweries are doing them just as well (Bierstadt, Seedz, help me out). But again, at that volume, there's not much that can compete outside of Germany of Czechia.

They've managed to keep their inspiration and love of beer front and center despite getting massive and it shows.

However, it doesn't hurt that they have such a massive population and city center not far away from their main facility, let alone the resources to build even more all around New England.

According to the interweb - TG has > Revenue. TG ~ $8.2M vs. Treehouse < $5M. I kind of thought maybe Treehouse would have more, but guess not. Who knows how accurate that is… but found it with a quick google search.

Now I'm curious about volume/output by comparison, if it's proportionate or not.
