What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #3922

Good afternoon, all! I'm drinking Three Floyd's Gumballhead, out of a #proper Weizen glass that I picked up at a thrift store for a buck or so. The glass really does a good job of concentrating the aromas while allowing the beer to breathe. I didn't notice the "selfie" until post-processing because my phone screen is filthy and I was facing toward the sun. Shoulda used my DSLR and a long lens.

 

I had it on draft awhile back. It is a good beer. I have been meaning to visit the brewery again and pick up some cans or a growler of it.

 

It's been a busy productive morning. Finally able to have a drink before tending to other duties.

Modelo Especial

 

1) Dovetail Helles (4.4%): A German Helles Lager from Chicago with flavors of light honeysuckle, and pale Munich bread malts. Light and clean.
versus
2) Weihenstephaner Helles (4.8%): A German Helles Lager introduced in 2020 for refined flavors of yeast, barley malts and a crisp and clean finish. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
1) Dovetail Helles: German Helles Battle, both fairly light at sub 5.0%. Weihenstephaner is a remake of their original that's slightly lighter and cleaner. Definitely pretty mild flavors, but maintains an excellent mouthfeel. Dovetail makes some great beer out of Chicago. This one is excellent. Slightly earthy, complex Munich malt flavors, while still being light and drinkable. Trying not to disrespect age old German beer, but more flavor in the Helles from Dovetail.

 

Tripping Animals brewed this. It’s just a Grape Thing is a slightly tart kettle sour. It tastes like grape Fanta, as intended. Cheers

 

I had contemplated taking today off from drinking, but look at today’s BOGO at Publix @Ocalafox - DFH 90 Minute:



Old school bitter IIPA. I like but I usually pass because a 12/pk of Torpedo is only a couple of bucks more at the store, but today’s price point ($15.69) hollered “buy me!”.

Everyday, little by little, I’ve been cleaning and reorganizing the garage. I don’t spend too much time at any one stretch due to the heat, but I’m making progress. A belly full of IIPA may incentivize me Cheers y’all and stay cool and hydrated!

 

Yes sir, I grabbed 2 prior to flying out last week .. cheers!

Moving crap around in the garage, now pouring a 2nd IIPA on the patio - DFH 90:



With my fans running, it’s actually more comfortable (not by much) in the garage vs. outside in the shade, under fan (89°/feels like 98°). Cheers y’all!

 

1) Phase 3 DDH Far From the Tree (7.7% canned 6/6/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra and Simcoe for flavors of orange, cantaloupe melon, tangerine, and hints of apricot. Juicy and sweet
versus
2) Phase 3 DDH Later Gator (7.8% canned 5/23/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with HBC-586 and Mosaic for flavors of guava, lychee, mango, somewhat bitter. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
Phase 3 DDH Later Gator: Phase 3 NEIPA battle. These are always fun to do, and fortunately both decently fresh. I've had Far From The Tree a few times by now. Classic Citra and Simcoe flavors. Pretty standard, but nothing out of the ordinary
Later Gator has a unique mango skin flavor from the HBC-586. Sort of reminds me of an Equilibrium beer. Great combo with Mosaic. Digging this one.

 

Monday golf day. A good round, got a little hot the last 3-4 holes.
Rewarded myself in the bar with an Elevated IPA from La Cumbre.
