Pretty much just that. Like millions of others, I had the stupid illness but lucked out with an extremely mild case. Many, many others suffered far more.
The reason I am asking though is I seem to have lost most of my ability to smell and at this point I don't think it's coming back. I remember being told way back in my youth that the smell is like 90% of the taste; never sure how that worked scientifically but I *do* remember getting aromas as I swallowed that helped define what I was drinking and tasting. Last weekends Pilsner tasting weekend highlighted the loss of this for me; that grassy/herbal accent so common to Noble Hops was almost completely unavailable to me. Maybe why I like the Schwartz Biers and stouts more that the lighter, more subtle options. Anyway, just tossing this out there to see if any of you had been similarly affected.

I had also a very mild Covid-19 but I’ve lost much older friends and a close relative to the naughty virus.

I lucked out too, not everybody did. No long term side effects like loss of smell or taste. I just had a sore throat for about a week in July 2022 when the pandemic was almost declared over.

On a different note, I was sort of hopeful this pandemic would bring us all together as humans, around the world and country by country. How wrong I was. I think people are increasingly obnoxious or maybe I have lost patience.

    No.

Although, it’s a miracle on par with the Virgin Mary giving birth to Jesus that I never got it (that I know of).

TBH I'm not really sure. I tested positive three times, but I'm not convinced that I ever had it because I was never symptomatic. (My physician suspected that it was false positives.) I do have some chronic congestion, but I've always had mild allergies. And as much as I hate to admit it, I AM getting old(er). I think my sense of smell has diminished a little, but I don't think I can attribute it to COVID any more than to any of several other factors. In any case, it hasn't diminished my enjoyment of beer, food, wine, or whisk(e)y in the least.

I had a 30 hr headache with lingering fatigue but in the big pic it wasn't bad for me.
I did have to change the brand of chicken I usually got as my wife became repelled by our old brand after she got it.
A client of mine, long time bud drinker just looks at bud after having had covid he gets nauseous. He switched to rolling rock with no problems.
It was a very odd virus, didnt have a standard impact

I've heard of/seen that happen several times. Again very odd who it infected and how it impacted them.
Or the tests were also faulty, either way its great you didn't get sick

It's just another data point, but it took my wife about 6 months to get her senses of smell and taste completely back (or close enough to consider it as "completely" back) after otherwise recovering from COVID-19.

I don't think I lost sense of smell, however it is easier for me to pick up on aroma from the can/bottle rather than a glass, unless its a very pungent beer, which to me seems a bit weird, but what am I gonna do?

I've had it (COVID) about 3 times (courtesy of working retail in Park City during the beginning of the outbreak/out of town tourists) and thankfully myself, wife and toddlers were/are doing just fine.

I think I'm at 9 months now, so unless I'm an outlier (I know, it *is* technically possible) I think mine is just gone. Such is life, no?

Sorry to hear about your loss of smell.

Both my wife and I got mild cases recently (April) but luckily neither of us were impacted as regards smell.

You made some mention of "I *do* remember getting aromas as I swallowed". That is referred to a retronasal olfactory sense - the aromas pass from your mouth cavity to your nasal passages.

I am not a doctor but maybe some folks just need more time to completely recover their smell?

    Cheers!

That's what I was hoping, and that may yet come to pass, I'm just not as optimistic as I once was. Thanks for the right word though; I knew there must be something to describe that as beer tasting has a word for *everything*.

I certainly hope that's not the case. Keep the faith that time will heal it.

I caught covid Dec 2022 and had it for xmas & new years. I slept a lot and had zero energy. I'd walk around for 10 minutes and feel fatigued. I temporarily lost my sense of taste and smell. My appetite was normal. I recall that I could taste sweet things just fine yet textures flavors and spice did nothing. My tongue felt like it had been burned by hot liquids. I also had a little cough. Sense of smell was gone for a few days but both slowly returned to normal. Smell was the slowest so my wife got me aroma therapy essential oils (little .50 oz bottles) of lavender, eucalyptus, orange. They helped. From a bit of online research many medical experts are saying that the olfactory organs can be re-trained to a certain extent. So I went around whiffing all things I know that are strong smelling, each for a minute 3 times per day. There's always something new to learn and extrapolate about beer tatses/aromas. I'm back to normal (if I can be called normal!) and can enjoy the cornucopia of beer tastes and aromas, not to mention food and such. Hope this helps! Cheers!

Not in 2023. During the 2020 fear/unknown period when we were taking shoes off and scrubbing Amazon packages coming into our house, I liked the No-contact store buying, where I’d surf the webpage with all the beers in the store then place my order over the phone and have them put it in my car trunk. That was awesome IMO, no impulse buying or screw up decisions in the store from distractions.

Yeah, that pretty much summed up my symptoms for my recent (April) bought of Covid.

For me personally I had it and during the peak of the virus when I had the body aches and fever and such I could not taste and smell and thought I was doomed. But as the virus started to clear out of my system I got my taste and smell back just fine. But even when I have a common cold or flu I lose my taste and smell during the peak of those common viruses too and it comes back when it’s starting to clear out of my system.

It took me about a year to get the majority of my taste sensations back.
At about 9 months, it started coming back, but took about a year to get "almost" fully restored.
My symptoms were very mild otherwise, even without a vaccine or boosters. I have had worse colds.
Needles to say, quite a few beers I had on hand aged a bit. I just drank cheap whatever 30pks, because I couldn't taste the difference. Even my homebrew had no real detectable flavors. I'd say my smell & taste is about 90-95% restored, but that could be attributed to old age?
