Slightly cloudy brown colored body; thick, khaki colored head, dense. Fine earthy sweetness; brown sugar and candi sugar notes. Sweet flavor, root beer and sassafras; anise; caramel; brown sugar; modest bitterness circulating in the background; slight alcohol presence. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; light sludginess with a soft abrasiveness; sticky.

What a difference ten years can make in one's appreciation of a beer. Based on my initial notes, I suspect a lot of the key factors of the look, smell, taste and feel are the same, but in this time frame, I consider this beer pretty phenomenal.

Hazy brown body with a decent head. Rich malt aroma coupled with some caramel and slightly hinting of alcohol strength; figs and dates. Thick, chewy body; cloyingly sweet texture that dissolves into a bright, biting fizziness. Caramel-like malt flavors with a strong, boozy aftertaste.

Well, the beer looks okay and tastes okay, but it's difficult to get really fired up about this one. Oh, it has it's malt-like presence and definitely exudes its big booze character without getting out of hand, but nothing quite gels to make this one stand out.

A great day to show off my Omega Speedmaster. A watch like this was used to calculate speed and distance during the mission to the Moon. No recharging or updates on this piece. Just turn the switch in the middle every day to keep it on time.

Got off work today at 2:30 - between July 4th and Labor Day, we're allowed to take 2 hours off (paid) every week whenever we want. I took an hour Tuesday afternoon and today. Gave me the time to take a buzz to Wally World to pick up a few things. On my way back I picked up a sixer of Stone Delicious IPA. WTF - every can is dented up, I'm surprised that they didn't start leaking.

[IMG] 1) Paulaner Muncher Hell (4.9%): A German Helles with flavors of earthy bread malts, hints of honey and smooth German bread. A smooth finish.
    2) Weihenstephaner Original Premium (5.1%): A German Helles with flavors of earthy bread malts, German yeast. Full, yeasty, smooth. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    2) Weihenstephaner Original Premium:
German Helles Battle. Revisiting these two. Did this battle a couple of years ago. Paulaner is very good and standard. Does everything right and drinks extremely smooth. Weihenstephaner is similar, but a touch more yeasty and carbonated. Pretty similar, although comes down to preference. Paulaner is slightly sweeter and smoother while Weihenstephaner is slightly more yeasty and dry.
