I dug it, in small portions, a 750 was too much, but 12oz could be great

With all those added flavors is there any room for the flavor of beer?

KBS has never been the place for “beer flavored beer”, just flavored beer.

    This sounds awesome!

I don’t buy many “pastry stouts” these days beyond what they might throw in the Revolution Deep Woods season ticket package (4 pack every release), but I will make an exception for this as I also loved Lizard of Koz. I first tried at the sadly now closed Fountainhead on Damen and Montrose. It may have been my first pastry stout.

Hoping I can find someplace outside of succumbing to Binny’s. Will start with a four pack, taste that weekend and consider buying more depending on how that goes. I’m sensitive to sweetness and salt, so hoping the blueberry and sweetness is balanced by the base. Not a huge KBS fan, would rather have FIS but can’t find it around here.

Here is an article with additional details.

I thought the "S" stands for Stout. Doesn't Stout have a flavor? In regular KBS you can taste the bourbon and the Stout.

As he said...its ALWAYS been a flavored veer.

They add a buncha (very sweet)chocolate and coffee into KBS

I never found much sweetness in OG KBS. Maybe my sweet taste-buds are as bad as my hearing/listening...

I meant that i assume they use semi-sweet or bakers chocolate as opposed to dark chocolate since i feel that KBS lacks much bitterness and leans more towards the sweeter side of things especially when having it side by side with Speedway

OG KBS and never been just a plan stout or a plain barrel aged stout. It has always had coffee and chocolate - hence a "flavored" stout.

I didn't mean that there wasn't other flavors, its just that when there are too many added flavors then the base gets lost. Think of coffee with cream and sugar. You can still taste the coffee as well as the cream and the sugar. With some of the Starbucks creations it makes you wonder if there is any actual coffee in it as they add so much stuff to it. That is what I was thinking as I was reading all the added flavors. Just a personal preference that I like it when the base flavor is present.

As I've become more conservative in my beer preferences...I'd say "regular" KBS doesn't taste much like a stout. It's borderline cloying, more like a syrup to pour over ice cream than a beer.

Once upon a time I thought it was great, so take this with a grain of salt.

I also imagine I wouldn't be able to stomach more than 3 oz of this blueberry version.

I never found KBS to be that sweet either but that is all relative. Maybe some of the perceived sweetness you are getting is from the bourbon flavor, Speedway wouldn't have that

Nah you're right. It's kinda undrinkable sometimes cuz its bordering a dessert.
I drink bouron regularly so i know it isn't the barrel. Have KBS next to a BA Rasputin, BA Speedway, BA Anything and you might see what i mean.

Coming from someone whos shared a kitchen with a baker I am almost 1000% sure they use chocolate with a high sugar ratio. It HAS to be.

Their regular BA Imperial Stout is good ( all the drama aside)

I like it. Blueberry flavor, to me, is slight and not overpowering

I don’t think regular KBS is overly sweet; I actually hold that beer in very high esteem as far as BBA stouts go, but this one was too sweet for me. Glad to have the opportunity to try it, but also glad I only got one bottle…

I got on the "contact me when it arrives" call list for this one at one of my local beer stores. They currently have a number of other KBS drops, more than other shops, so i figured they'd get some. Looking frwd to it!

It's dang good and waaaay more chocolate-centric than I expected. Sweet as well. I'll be splitting 12 oz bottles with mates.

I didn't care for the blueberry KBS. Now anxiously awaiting the next release in their BA Series, The Headless Gourdsman BBA Pumpkin Beer. It's due out in October, but already turning up in several states.
