Very glad to hear you found it better than I. It does seem to imply that it my lack of smell limits my ability to taste certain things. Ah well, at least I still like beer.

    3 Floyds Zombie Ice ( Pale Ale??? ), 8.5% ABV; 4.03 overall

Pours an effervescent light amber with a thumb+ pf cream colored head. Very good head retention & solid lacing

S: Some citrus, a little breadyness, some cattyness once warm

T: Grapefruit, grassyness, lime & dryness up front, a touch of caramel & pine up front. More pineyness, leafy hops, dryness & a little bit of grassy hop once this beer warms up. Finishes piney, dry with some cakeyness

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, nicely balanced

Nice old school hop bomb, very drinkable

I've found a hand full I like in the 4.6-4.9 zone. About half of em are under 100 calories as well. I'm all about maintaining my sporty oaken-barrel figure :stuck_out_tongue: Cheers!

    Yards golden strong ale
...a very attractive clear amber appearance
...just below average carbonation with a just above average body.
....aroma is malt, astringent, alcohol, mild hops, an odd clay floral element. Spicy candy like.
...taste is slightly sweet, spice, malt, astringent mildly happy finish. Theres a dry finish that lingers for a long time [IMG]
...very interesting with a lot going on. Not sure it comes together perfectly but again its worth trying

    Greetings denizens of NBW.
Found a new brewery and a new imperial stout so had to try it.
I won’t be bringing this one to my SAN.
Poured stout black with a light tan head with really large bubbles.
The smell is unavailable to me, at least for now. Stupid Covid.
The taste was very stout like, with the roasted malts, a charred coffee and chocolate. It just wasn’t a harmonious combination.
The feel was good until the end, when what looks like bits of peanuts were in the bottom of the snifter.
OA, almost a good imperial stout, maybe next years version will be better.

The lack of body is what's getting me. I found a ton in the UK on cask that would make me happy

Forgotten boardwalk gravity road imperial barrel-aged stout.
....solid black appearance with a lasting thin mocha head.
    ...aroma is whiskey, alcohol, oak,mocha.
.taste has some mild sweetness, malty milk chocolate. Whiskey, wood, bakers dark chocolate.
...this a really amazing barrel aged beer. Maybe its a bit below some classics but its by far the best I've had from a very good brewery.[IMG]

Drekker There Will Be PRRRT Jules Deluxe Kettle Fruitted Sour, 6.1% ABV; 4,28 overall. I really likked this one

Pours a messy sand/gold color with almost 2 fingers of pillowy sand/tan head. Ugly for a beer, but could easily pass for a milkshake or smoothie

    S: Bananas, strawberries

T: Follows the nose, certainly tastes like a sweetish smoothie, there is a little lactic twang there as well up front along with some dryness & vanilla & orange. Sweet orange, banana, & vanilla as this beer warms up, along with dryness. Finishes mostly sweet with strawberriess & bananas leading the way with plenty of vanilla & a touch of lime acidity

MF: Medium body, fairly light carbonation, do feel my enamel on my teeth getting attacked, but only a little

Upper echelon Kettle Fruited Sour IMHO, pretty darn drinkable

    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4
12 oz bottle pkgd 4/13/23 into a shaker pint glass.
L: Pours light iced tea caramel with a thin creamy off white head that moves fairly quickly to thick edge foam, low visible carbo, almost no lacing.
S: Caramel malts, honey, a hint of grains, very lightly floral, a distant bready note.
T: Gently sharp citrus zest, biscuit malts, white grape, grapefruit zest, honey, spicy herbal hops go wide on the tongue, a hint of yeast. Fairly full-flavored and slightly rich. Has a lightly sweet halo and a resinous linger.
F: Lightly brisk, wet medium-heavy body with a medium length finish that is drying.
O: A dry & somewhat "spicy" beer with malty herbal notes. Not a lot of after taste yet has a long resinous linger that is quite drying. It is very good to excellent in its style.
O: If I find this beer on tap I will get a couple of pints.

Im in New Brunswick so going to try to drink locally or at least regionally while here.
This is Hop City Brewing and their Barking Squirrel Amber Lager 5.0% beer out of several locations.

    Onto my review:
Sampling a cold 16 oz can poured into a small plastic cup (im not at home, so best Ive got). Can is date stamped 019 3 20:08. No real idea what that means.
The beer pours a clear amber color, which fits the style. A creamy khaki colored head foams up about 2.5 cm and fades to a sturdy surface covering. As I drink the beer I get dense sticky lattice on all sides of my cup.
Aroma is some toasted malts and caramel graininess. I get a little bit of earthy hops. Overall the aroma is pretty mild.
First sip reveals a medium body with pretty smooth texture and fine gentle carbonation that gently slides across my palate. This is an easy drinking beer on the physical traits.
Flavor is similar to the nose with caramel and toasted grain mixing with a bit of toffee that lingers a bit. Finish is definitely toasted bread. Never any hop notes nor hint of ABV.
Easy drinking simple beer, not overly powerful flavor nor nose, but certainly not an offensive easy drinker.
    3.85 in the BA DB

    2017 750ml bottle. 6 years old. 9% abv. Gifted to by @Victory_Sabre1973

Look: brown slightly murky body. Dark amber body under the beer light. Plenty of beer light doesn't pass threw. A decent head for a old bottle. short but very persistent. Leaving some nice fine lacing.

Smell: very good. Smells like a non barrel age barley wine does at first. But as it warms up you get bread, spice, caramel and a hint of booze.

Taste: somewhat follows the nose. you get some stone washed dark fruit. Almost like a hint of cinnamon spice too.
It tastes good, some complexity there. Not overly sweet. Smooth.

Feel: good, not real thick or syrupy but not thin, Also has a soft & creamy feel.

I like this one. The bottle has held up very well. 4.22/5

    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

Done with work for the week, and it's time for a new beer.

Fast Turns - Castle Danger Brewing - Two Harbors, MN - Hefeweizen - 5.5% ABV

My friends picked this up for me when they were up there a few weeks back. This is a brewery exclusive for now. I am not sure about the crawler, and I think some of the CO2 leaked out, because it wasn't very heavily carbed at all. The aroma didn't seem to be diminished. There was tons of banana clove and bubblegum. The flavor started off bitter, and I like bitter, but not in a Hefe. The banana, clove and bubblegum did show up, but on the back. Overall interesting, but I'm not sure it works completely.

From a crawler purchased at the brewery dated 7-6-2023.

There didn't seem to be a lot of carbonation when I opened the crawler. I'm pretty sure the seal wasn't the best. The beer is a hazy murky golden pour. I see very little carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. The head that formed was white, and less than 1 finger. The retention was poor, and the head dissipated to a white ring with no lacing on the glass.
The aroma is full on hefe in here. Tons of banana notes hit my nose with some cloves backing it up. Hints of bubblegum come into the mix. If there was any leakage, I would say it's not having an effect on the aroma.
Taste - The flavor actually has a bit of bitterness up front, which was surprising,. The bitterness mostly fades , and it turns into a hefe. I get a lot of banana and clove with some bubblegum as well in the mix.
The body does seem fairly full, and solid for the style.
Interesting beer overall, though the bitterness does seem out of style, and does take away from it a bit.

All right, I'll be back tomorrow for some more. Cheers all!

Eastern Market Brewing Co. Elephant Juice New England IPA, 7.2% ABV ( canned on 7/3/23 ); 4.18 overall

Pours a very hazed gold with a pinky of eggshell colored head. Great lacing & head retention

S: Citrus, melons & tropical fruit in abundance

T: Follows the nose, green melon, tangerine, passion fruit & lime, plus a little dryness & nectarine up front. Dryness, limes, nectarine, lime & grapefruit as this beer warms up. Finishes a little dry with pomelo, lime & green melon

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, nice balance

This was lucky find, actually given to me up in Ann Arbor at a get together. Very drinkable & a super-solid take on the style towards the juicy side
