So with all the hop water love in this thread and the other stuff it’s clear the next logical step is deep woods root beer.

This is sorta out of left field for the thread but I gotta say ‘21 Straight Jacket might be my favorite barley wine and one of my favorite Rev brews. It’s just perfect.

Finally got around to trying the new releases.

I was pleasantly surprised by Life Jacket, in the sense that I thought I would hate it, but I thought it was a nice beer for what it was. It certainly is not in the upper echelon of DW releases, but it's not a disaster like Maple Jacket.

Cuvee was solid, but a bit of a let down if I'm being honest since I enjoyed the last iteration so much.

Dread and Breakfast I honestly had no idea what to expect but I was blown away. There was certainly beautiful coffee notes to it but I can't believe the maple presence despite there not being any maple in it? Crazy well done, and a real testament to the blending capabilities Revolution has developed over the years.

I think I’m in the minority here, but I absolutely love this batch of Cuvée. Seems to have a bit more stout base with a silkier mouthfeel. I wasn’t as high on the last release (I enjoyed it but it was nowhere near my top. I’ve already gone through a 4 pack of these.

I think dread and breakfast is a fantastic beer, even more so considering coffee is the only adjunct. The flavors of maple and cinnamon from the wood are very present and a nice compliment to the rye booziness. Since coffee is the only adjunct would it be fair to assume this beer will taste largely the same after aging since the adjuncts usually fade? Are there any other beers similar to this?

RE: Cuvee...at near room temp on a clean palate, this is a world-class beer.

Cold, or as a 3rd/4th drink, it gets a bit timid.

Which is to say: it's delicate. However, it's worth the effort to get to know it.

    One idiot's opinion, anyway.

count me among those impressed with how much flavor dread imparts despite coffee being the only adjunct. the amburana barrels provided nearly as much cinnamon flavor as I got with catch hell, but it's still balanced enough to not overpower. truly nailed the execution on this one, and it's in the running for most pleasant surprise of any beer in recent memory.

the opposite is true regarding life jacket. forcing the hand of the gods to release the kraken if this experiment is repeated again.

Thank you to Rev or whomever decided to send a few kegs of these gems to MN. A local best-beer place had/has a keg of all three, so the wife & I swung in to sample all of them. Favorite to least favorite:

Life Jacket (loved this & a little surprised)
    Dread & Breakfast (just a notch below)\
Cuvee de Grace (a Ryeway ***** so a bit surprised this registered only 'very good')

Looking forward to re-visiting all three in can form soon.

Sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled Deep Woods programming, but...
Have you guys ever tried the Rev Pils or a Cold Time after drinking a few BA offerings? It's like adding a whole new meaning to crisp and refreshing. Also, I just love em on a hot day or after a sweet hazy IPA so I was hyped to hear the bartender say that they're doing a trial run of Cold Time cans (their Am light lager).

@BeerCruncher can you confirm or deny the Cold Time permanently being part of the can lineup? Distro?!

Cold Time rules. Would be a staple summer fridge beer for me.

Finally got around to picking up my DW season ticket today (thanks once again Rev for your more than generous pick-up windows). Started off with Cuvée this evening at ~room temperature (followed @GuyFawkes' sage advice above, thank you) and this is a another delicious beer from Rev. Follow his recommendation. Great way to start the season. Looking forward to the other two.

Sorry if I missed it in a prior post - will either Cuvee or Dread & Breakfast go out for distribution?

No distro on any of the three 4 packs. Looks like these are available at both Rev locations if a possibility for you.
