I am a teacher by day and beer hound by night. With numerous breaks throughout the year, my wife and I travel often. I am always exploring and sniffing out places to enjoy a quality pint or two. Beer Advocated has helped my locate many of these places, and I am excited to share the places that I have found so that others may enjoy them, too. Cheers!
Well it's summertime, so you can be a beer hound all day now. This site has guided me on all of my travels over the past 18 years since joining. I use the Places search engine for my destinations, and if there are too many breweries where I'm going, I'll use the brewery pages to look at styles that are brewed and/or the website link to see if a current tap list is there. Then I choose which place I'll visit. I share my experiences here via reviews of the places that I've been. Sounds like you do the same thing.
Welcome and thanks for the introduction. Great to have extra time off especially in the summer . Sounds like you and your wife travel and mix in beercations ,i do the same . This site has a great place search site that i wish was utilized more . Love for you too share your travels and places with reviews or additions to the cities you visit.. Do you fly or drive or do both when you travel? What has been your favorite unexpected city for beer ? Mine was Kearney ,Nebraska.
I use the the place search site regularly! It has taken me to a lot of really great places. As I travel, I continue to add places that I stumble upon. I, too, have had a really great experience when passing through Kearney. It was a stop over night on our way to visit family in Iowa. I think the brewery was called Thunderhead. If I remember correct, there was a bunch of other pubs/restaurants in the vicinity serving lots of local beer. Speaking of Iowa. During my visits there, I have unexpectedly came across many places pouring fantastic brews.
Welcome! What part(s) of Iowa do you visit? I've run across quite a few gems here. PIVO (Calmar) and Lion Bridge (Cedar Rapids) are two of my favorites, as well as our local SingleSpeed (Cedar Falls / Waterloo). All of these breweries do a variety of styles, and they do them very well. In addition, PIVO's owners also own Blepta Studios, an art studio that shares the space with the brewery. I could go on, but I'll just say that Iowa is a great craft-beer destination. Cheers!
