Hello from sunny California

    Hello everyone! I've browsed BA from time to time in the past, but with a move across the country and somewhat newish sobriety (3 years now), I'm in a rut looking for good NA or 0.0% beers. There seem to be more and more craft NAs all the time, though, so I'm excited to read up on what other members recommend.

    White ales and Märzens were always my favorites, and so far, it seems like they're very hard to find in the NA variety. There is a SoCal brewery (Bravus) that makes a decent NA Oktoberfest beer, though, so it's a start.

    Nice intro, @OldManBrodie. @SLeffler27 hit the highlights of where you should be looking for discussions on the NA topic. I've been active in the current and past forum discussion threads (the 2022 version is referenced in the first post of the 2023 thread) because I'm trying to cut back on my alcohol consumption.

    One thing that I think I've noticed with NA beers is that freshness is much more critical with these beers that the standard version (probably the lack of alcohol to act as a preservative). Early on in my discovery in the NA style I tried some Athletic beers (and other brands) that were 6-8 months old, and they were all terrible. I later tried some Athletic beers that were only around 60 days old, and it was like night and day the difference. So I check dates on these beers now when I buy something.

    Yeah, I've not liked Athletic on the past. I wonder how much of that was the freshness issue...

    Yeah, there were too many knowledgeable people in the NA beer thread that gave positive comments about Athletic beers, so I had to find some that was fresher than my first ones, and I proved to myself that freshness is crucial, at least for the Athletic brand.

    This is good to know, and worth further investigation. Thanks, because I had simply dismissed the style as not to my preference.
