    ...clear very pale gold appearance.
...medium carbonation with about the same for the body. Overall it has a decent feel to it.
...aroma is probably the strongest component with malt, mild citrus and floral dominating.
...taste doesn't stray too far from the aroma but unfortunately it does have that good beer thats been watered down taste.
...overall for the category its definitely in the higher end of na beers and it was worth trying[IMG]

Happy NBS everyone! Been a day. But this one I had last night. (Busy is putting it mildly)
Decided to go through the cellar and see what needed to be consumed. Ah, a 3 year old milk stout. Yup, that would work.
The Spinner from Wax Wings in Kalamazoo, MI.
I suspect this would have been better fresh, it got put behind some bombers and forgotten.
No head and barely any carbonation. Go figure.
The taste was not bad, but it seemed like all the flavors merged together and produced a curious combination. The coffee and vanilla and even pecans were all present, just not distinct from each other.
The feel was lacking carbonation, but that is on me, not their fault.
OA, I did have one of their stouts fresh and it was great, so I don’t think this particular review is a good representation. It’s just what I was drinking.
Cheers! I’ll be back for today’s beer.

Have a great Sunday. Today is the 3rd anniversary since I become a renewed man and decided to move my life and location in a different direction during a low point. Still waiting on that promotion interview after hr canceled the position twice :grimacing:. My life is the dream. We came to char bar 7 and it's way busy than I expected. But service seems fine.

I love city bbq. The texas pastrami kicks ass. I love slaw.

Oskar blues tropic mutant. Great west coast. Aroma and flavors of grapefruit, orange, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew, strawberry, citrus rind, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toast, herbal, floral, grass. Large pine rind bitter finish. Medium carb and body. Long resinous drying finish with mild astringency. Very vibrant and dank hops of galaxy, Strata, talus. Great tropical fruit profile. Some warming abv. 4.0/5

Irish Coffee Nitro, a coffee cream stout from Fall River Brewing Company.
It was almost 3 years old so the nitro rather punted. Still looked good for a solid 4 seconds.
The taste still had some Irish Cream flavor and the nitro made it feel soft in the mouth.
Found it in a friend’s beer fridge after we got back from a kayaking float down the Flat River.

Perfect weather, ideal water and excellent company. Very nice morning.
Cheers all! I may have another one later. But at least I’m caught up with my new ones!

Uneventful day here with a few chores done and mostly listening yo the weather alerts go off for most of the afternoon. With blue skies, we were confused but the radar showed a heavy storm to the north. We got a fifteen minute frog strangler, no wind or anything dangerous, so yay...

    Tonight's brew:

Allagash Once Upon an Orchard, the raspberry, blueberry, vanilla edition, Jan 2023. Here it is listed as a Flanders Red, they call it a sour red ale aged on fruit...ok...let's see.

It pours a beautiful ruby red with brownish tinting, about a finger of pink fluff on top that last or is replenished or both.

Smell is fruity, raspberry dominates but blueberry is there. Maybe a faint whiff of malt underneath. If I try really hard, I can detect an extremely tiny big of funk...barely there. Tea comes in a bit, but this is mainly raspberry.

The taste opens fairly acidic but not overly so. Then raspberry - quite fresh and bright and bringing a ton of fruit acidity. The blueberry is a deeper flavor, tea-like and less bright. I get a little salty note - huh? The fruits linger long after the swallow - nearly but not quite too much. It's intensely flavored, but maybe a tad bit unidimensional. There's some tannin and phenolic bite, but it seems to come from the fruit. There's an extremely mild funk that comes and goes a bit. A slight residual fruity sweet jam taste develops after a bit. No real detectable level of vanilla.

Feel is close to medium, but lively carbonation lightens it up. The lingering fruit keeps it from being a refresher, but that's fine.

Ok...so I don't think this is a Flanders Red, but it touches some elements. I don't know what to call it, actually. It doesn't have an abundance of the Allagash wild ale thing going on, but it has some. It doesn't say what it's aged in and I don't get woodiness. I do get a mineral tang so maybe one of their other toys? Just on merit and flavor and stunning appearance, this is a 4.3 range beer. I'm not going to sweat the classification - the brewery didn't call it a Flanders red.

    5.5% märzen by Sonder Brewing

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body is on the orange side of amber. The off-white head hung around for a long while though not much lacing.

Aroma has some clove to go with the lightly sweet grainy malt.

Taste follows nose and up front is a light honey malt sweetness. A happy revelation was a nice little hop in the giddy up. The balance creates a good drinking beer with a soft finish.

    Vibrant carbonation and smooth mouthfeel.

    Well done, easy drinking marzen.

Half Acre Tuna Pale Ale - I enjoy true Pale Ales and Daisy Cutter is now one of my favorites (RIP Victory Headwaters Pale Ale). I like hops but I prefer just a touch and a nice balance so the PA style is right up my alley.

Pours from a 16 oz can (07/06/23) a hazy light orange with strong carbonation, nice fluffy head. Smell is good, tropical and creamy and I'm sure there's Mosaic in there (a hit or miss hop with me) but it's not overdone and quite nice. Taste is really good and it's crisp, creamy, tropical and hoppy but not over done at all. This drinks bigger than 4.7% but doesn't feel bigger, good stuff. Budmo!

Deschutes Tropical Fresh IPA, 6.5% ABV; 3.89 overall

Pours an effervescent & slightly hazed gold with a thumb+ of cream-colored head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Pineapple, mangoes, tangerines in good levels

T: Follows the nose, some dryness, green melon, some lime & a little dryness up front. Tangerine, lime, a kiss of dryness & pineapple once this beer is warm. Finishes with a little pineapple, lime & dryness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, good balance

Solid, but always have higher hopes from Deschutes; lately they haven't met them IPA-wise

    Good evening NBW
I saw this four pack last weekend and trust Hi-Wire, so I'm in for four. Luckily, it's delicious...
Ten Years of Hi-Wire (blend of BBA 10W-40 stout, BBA barleywine & BBA quad)
16oz can with an illegible batch stamp, but 07/05/2(?) is there. Poured into a Duvel glass at fridge temp 10.2% ABV per can. The beer pours dense, very dark brown approaching black. The head is medium brown in color and settles to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Web-like lacing coats the glass. The aroma is moderate in strength and hard to pin down. Bourbon, then caramel, then earthy dark chocolate. The taste is bittersweet with roasted malt and various toasted malts all in play. Flavors include bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, fudge, caramel and even some dark fruit. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Alcohol is there but never harsh. Overall, very good.

    Cheers all!

Wiseacre Grape The Beach Within Reach Berliner Weisse style ale, 6.8% ABV; 3.86 overall. Just noticed this my 6.666th beer review. God knows how many have been deleted because the breweries went under

Pours an effervescent pinkish/claret with a thumb of fast-falling beige head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Tart Grape Tang ( remember that kids? ) & Dandelion

T: Grape Sweet Tart, dryness, a touch of lemon & salt Dryness, lime & salt mix in with mostly tart grape as this beer warms up. Finishes pretty tart, a little salty with grape lemonade

    MF: Medium body, delicate carbonation

Decent as a one off, but not one I'd consume on a regular basis

My new beer for today is Waiting on a Breakthrough from Spring House Brewing in Lancaster, PA. Compliments of @DIM in a barleywine trade a while back. This is a black barleywine brewed with vanilla. Comes in at 13% ABV.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours very black but with the typical consistency of a barleywine. Almost no head. The nose is splendid. Blackberries, blueberry pie, quite a bit of vanilla, caramel, and a nice layer of glazed doughnuts. Can't wait to sip this one!

The taste is fantastic. The vanilla comes through right away, and it's definitely one of the most (if not THE most) dominant flavors on this one. I love vanilla, so this is just fine with me. This is accompanied by lovely smooth notes of blueberry, toffee, slight maple, vanilla chocolate, and a hint of plum. So easy to drink and the ABV seems non-existent. Another dangerous brew!

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is mostly vanilla and dark fruit. Lovely barleywine!

Thanks so much for sending this one, Dan!

    Hello again!
My nightcap tonight, an Imperial Stout from Austin Brothers Beer Company.
Poured stout black with a light brown head of dense foam that was a good 2” tall for a while.
The taste was coffee forward with chocolate all playing nicely with a solid malt roast. Just a bit of a hard edge from either hops or coffee or extra roast on the malts. Not sure, but it was pretty mild.
The feel was good, very smooth and almost chewy. Seems to be ideal for carrying the flavors.
OA, it’s definitely one I would buy again if I find it again.
Pretty sure this will be my last one for the weekend.
    Cheers all!

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body is a bright orange-amber. Good head and excellent lacing. A fine looking beer.

Nose is malt with honey overtones.

Taste follows nose and there is a sweetness to the malty flavor. Good hop notes help to balance the sweetness.

Carbonation is strong and mouthfeel good. Smooth finish.

A solid Oktoberfest beer for fans of the style who like a little hoppiness added to the mix.

Finally remembering to post on a weekend with a new beer. This is part of the NBS BIF#17 chaos and a gift from @russpowell Thank you for this opportunity!
Ive seen this beer show up on threads quite a bit and am stoked to finally empty a can on my own. I figure a beer that only goes by its initials, must be pretty kick-ass!
This is Ozark Brewing out of Rogers, Arkansas and their BDCS a 10.2% imperial milk stout. BDCS stands for Bourbon Double Cream Stout in case you were wondering.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into my snifter, vintage 2022 but no other date stamp on the label. Received in a trade courtesy of @russpowell. thank you!

the beer pours a rich dark coffee brown color and no light passes through my glass when I hold it to a light source.
A dense creamy head of 1 cm of tan foam rises up from the pour and quickly fades to a sturdy edge layer that sticks around throughout my sampling. There are also a few small islands spinning in the center of the glass. Also get some scattered lacing when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
Aroma is malt forward with milk chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar and a good whiff of bourbon note. No warm or fusol alcohol more of the sweet side of bourbon. Also no hop presence here at all on the nose.
First sip reveals a very smooth textured medium bodied beer with fine soft and gentle carbonation. The carb is very fine and gentle, which all makes for a velvety smooth physical experience.
Flavor is what the nose advertises, with sweet chocolate, brown sugar and some vanilla, all giving way to bourbon notes and a little warming on the swallow. Bourbon flavor lingers and also coats my lips. I do get a little bit of a coffee note in the back of each swallow too. Again, no hops to be found.
Quite a nice imperial milk stout, one that I would gladly drink again.

Robert the Great from De Struise in Belgium. A Russian imperial stout from Flanders. It comes in at 10.5% ABV. Bottled in 2020.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a thin layer of off-white head. The nose is amazing. Big notes of tobacco, coffee, dark chocolate, and some black licorice. Some dark roasted malts and a bit of toasted vanilla.

The taste is insane. Dark roasted coffee grounds, chewing tobacco, charred wood, VERY dark chocolate, molasses, and black licorice. Slight dark fruit, but the big roasty notes dominate. This is such a classic RIS with all the right notes. It's big and bold, but super smooth and enjoyable. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy.

No adjuncts, and it's amazing. Highly recommended! This is what a RIS should be.

Poured from a 16 ounce can filled at the brewery on 8-12-23 into a tulip glass.

Look- Deep gold, very hazy, frothy white head, above average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Pine resin, grapefruit, herbaceous, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Pine resin, grapefruit, pineapple, herbaceous, slightly below medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full body, slightly below average carbonation, high bitterness, moderately creamy, moderately mouth watering finish.

Overall- This was a very nice unfiltered West Coast IPA that provided an enjoyable drinking experience. Appearance was very nice with deep gold color, plenty of haze and above average head retention and lacing. Bouquet was medium in strength with a nice mix of pine resin and grapefruit. Flavor was nice, but could have been a little more vibrant. Feel was fuller than expected, but that surprise was not a detractor. It was moderately creamy with high bitterness, that is expected of the style.
