Hello all, I'm Luke. I'll try to keep this totally serious and uncontroversial:
    • I liked NEIPAs better when they were barely existent (my favorite trade ever was for Tree House Julius and Alter Ego cans, and King Julius and Green 750s)
    • Ditto with fruited kettle sours - back in the good ol' days (5-6 years ago) Burley Oak JREAMs were AMAZING
    • But I can't help myself trying new examples, followed by inevitable disappointment (not always, but almost always)
    • These days I get excited to try a new dunkel, Czech dark lager, or Vienna lager
    • One constant has been my love of New Glarus and especially their fruit beers - I love the 12 oz bottle 4-pack format instead of the old 750s and the beer itself is as delicious as ever
    Cheers!

These two bullet points stand out to me for further comment. I don't think you're alone in your excitement to try a new dunkel, Czech dark lager, etc. I'm certainly in that mode, and when I see one on a brewery's beer menu, I'll choose it first.

For your love of the NG beers, I'll simply ask whether you have a trader back in WI that gives you a regular pipeline? I'd miss those beers too.

Hi Luke, thanks for the introduction. I've had several NEIPAs I've enjoyed, but mostly from shares and trusted recommendations. I don't seek them otherwise. M-43 is my favorite from the Midwest, would say Treehouse are solid as well. I pass on kettle sours, but like the traditional sour styles like Flanders Oud Bruin and Flanders Red Ales.

New Glarus is a brewery folks should visit in Wisconsin along with 3 Sheeps and Central Waters. Would say New Glarus (Raspberry Tart and Belgian Red) and Founders (Blushing Monk and Rubeus) are my two favorite breweries in that style.

Hope you can return back home to Wisconsin at some point, East Coast can be difficult in terms of traffic, expenses and other factors.

Welcome Luke! You’ve come to the right place to talk about and find beers that you like! NG doesn’t distro, but if you have a trader/pipeline, lucky you! Share your finds on the What Beer Are You Drinking Now thread. I’ll look for you there! Cheers!

"Stuck in Maryland" Them's fightin' words! Welcome to the area. I would say 90% of the new beers I see are NEIPA'a or fruited sours so I feel your pain. Checkout Landmade Brewing. They make several styles that may interest you.

I still have family in WI so I make it back there once or twice a year and come back with 2-3 cases of beer, mostly New Glarus. I fly Southwest and with a wife and 2 kids and we put the free checked bags policy to what I'm sure must be its primary intended use. (I'm an expert at loading a suitcase right up to 50 lbs.) It's still not enough, though, especially because my wife likes NG fruit beers at least as much as I do.

I'll try to post in the WBAYDN threads - I've been an occasional lurker but haven't posted. Could be a good way to get some additional BA karma at any rate haha!

I've wanted to visit New Glarus for almost a decade now but haven't made it yet. Central Waters is on my list as well, but my family is in Racine so neither are very convenient. One day I'll make it! I'm not as familiar with 3 Sheeps but I'll take a closer look at their beers next time I see them. Thanks for the recommendations!

I've been "stuck" for a decade haha. Maryland feels like home now, but as a state with zero natural lakes (how is that even possible?!) it doesn't feel quite right to a Wisconsin native.

We've been planning a trip to Sugarloaf Mountain and it looks like Landmade is more or less on the way from the Annapolis area. I'll try to check it out - thanks for the tip!

Central Waters opened their second excellent taproom at the former Pabst House, and it is family accommodating (children, but no animals) and serves food. 3 Sheeps is in Sheboygan, but sells their beer statewide (and hopefully soon back here). Cashmere Hammer is my favorite year round beer from them, but they do a great job across most styles.

That's great to know - somehow I hadn't found out about Central Waters opening a Milwaukee taproom. I'll definitely have to check it out next time I'm in WI!
