I was actually a little underwhelmed by assassin. I guess I was comparing it to rye bbt though. I thought db bean was great thought and progligacy from Lua.

Posted this early on in the thread but the Oak Park Microbew review is only a week away. Been to my fair share of beer fests and this is one of my favorites (I'll be going). The Green line and Metra literally stop right in the middle of the fest and the Blueline is a short Uber ride away. Pretty solid brewer list as always. Beershop which is a great craftbeer bar and bottleshop is right in the middle of the fest as well.

Had a good time at the OP Microbrew review. Great crowd and weather was awesome. Although I had to say not a whole lot blew me away. Lot of it was Pale Ales, Hazys and Pils. P3 and Goose had their BA stuff but ran out of it early on.

    • Cruz Blanca had a pretty good BA stout called Senor Finito.
    • Funkytown had a really good Strawberry and Banana Hefewiezen called Cold Sweat.
    • Goldfinger had a surprisingly good smoked Lager called Smoked Two Lagers.
    • Art History had a refreshing Blueberry Wheat Ale called Gather.
    • Pig Minds had a interesting Vanilla Red Ale called Vanilla Bitch Slap.
    • Kinslager had a one off really good tropical pils (can't remember the name).

Crafted Small Batch in a few weeks should be a really awesome time, surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. I went in 2022 and it was still one of the best fests I've gone too, including Beer Under Glass and Will County Beer and Bourbon Fest this year. The line-up is already looking fire plus Crafted partnered with Revolution and Werk Force this year to make four beers. Can't miss if you like barrel aged stouts, meads, crazy 'beetus sours or rare one-offs.

    Their actual post about it:
"Crafted Small Batch is a unique beer festival. We ask some of the best Midwest breweries, Home Brewers, Cideries, Meaderies, and Non-Alcholic Breweries, to provide a special beer, cider, mead, and NA specifically for this event. We also ask the breweries to provide a person who made this specific beer so they can share what went into creating the experimental or one-of-a-kind beer. Unlimited Samplings of the best beer the midwest can offer, Live DJ, Food from local vendor, and much much more. Glassware is provided for every entry."

If you read this thread over in Beer Talk, you may have noticed the packaging date for the Sierra Nevada variety 12-pack.
To be earnest, if these beers had been brewed in August, they would still not be my favorites.
Tonight is "Thurst Firsday" (Chicago Beer Society) at the Beer Temple. Deduce which beers I will be unloading there?

Along that route: Saturday is CBS' annual picnic. I have a ticket. I don't think you can register for it anymore. I will be very different this Saturday. The oddest object I will have is my laptop computer; because that is now how everybody has to vote on the foodstuffs in competition. I will need to tether to somebody's phone wi-fi. :pensive:
If you don't have a ticket to the picnic, allow me to suggest this alternate beer event: Yard-Social's Oktoberwest train crawl. It starts in Chicago at Eva's Sports Bar in Montclare at 11:45 am and proceeds west along Metra's Milwaukee District West line; terminating at Itasca's Oktoberfest. The train ticket is $7.00, and the beers are on individual settlement, but I would bet you will have a good time. :beers:

I didn't do a side by side, but the earthiness is clear, with lesser focused citrus and pine resin.
    A pleasure
    More please!

    Who does IPA's around here?

With no Zwanze Day this year (a biennial event now), The Beer Temple is hosting an 'off-year Zwanze celebration" practice event or something on Saturday. Well, whatever it is they have some nice beers planned. No tickets required.

That’s a great lineup, I’ve only had Resurgam from that list and it was excellent, but enjoyed many others from the featured breweries. I may try to go at open and then pick up my Rev allotment. The BT is a decent sized space. They generate a lot of interest with their well run events, so it can fill up quickly.

Really bummed when I went all the way there for the Maine Brewing event a few weeks ago to find I couldn’t even get inside as it was jammed packed. Their St. Louis event looked solid as well, but I misread the social media post and thought it was a week later than when it was held.
